  1. So I art in my spare time (which there is a lot of since I am unemployed- huzzah!) I don't have much in the way of FFXIV yet, but I figured I would share what I had. And maybe a few pieces from the other games I play.
  2. So this is probably a dumb question, but I have yet to hear any voice overs in any of my cut scenes- neither English nor Japanese. Am I missing a setting somewhere to turn them on?
  3. I. Basic Info Characters:Rheah'na Serras, possibly other alts as Balmung opens up. Primary character:Rheah'na Serras Linkshells:Intermission 2 Primary RP linkshell: Unsung Heroes [*]II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): I would say I am a medium RPer. I enjoy all PvE aspects of the game- questing, dungeons, raids. I tend to semi-OOC while out alone and questing, but am almost always willing to go IC if I met a fellow RPer out in the world. Views on RP combat and injuries: I am not a fan of PvP duels for resolving conflict. This might have something to do with the fact I am not a good PvPer and I would lose. That being said, I don't mind RP fighting that has been discussed before hand that has agreed upon standards- whether text based or roll based. So long as all parties know the rules and the consequences. Granted, my own characters tend to not be the violent sort, so this has rarely come up for me personally. Views on IC romance: I will admit I actually love IC romances, but they are not my main focus by any means. I prefer relationships to develop organically over time. In addition, I prefer the "fade to black" method of the more "adult" interaction. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): IC friendships are very important. No character is an island. As for family ties- I can take them or leave them. Most of my characters tend to be independent adults, so their family life is more of a background thing. So long as everything has been discussed before hand, family ties can be fun. Just don't drop in claiming to be my long lost litter mate unless you want my character to think yours is insane. Views on lore: I am still learning the complete lore of FFXIV, so I am sure I will make mistakes here and there. I definitely will always try to stick with the established lore of a world. I also do not mind people expanding on lore to fill out an area that information is more sparse. Within reason of course. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): /say will almost always be in character for me, unless I am asked a specific question by a player. Of course, if the answer the player needs requires a long explanation I will take it to a whisper. /ls will follow the rules of the particular group. As will /FC. III. 4. I have done these sorts of things before, and they are always lots of fun. I am not sure if my character would be too high level for this as a level 23 CONJ. Perhaps an alt would be in order? (if Balmung would open back up so I could create another character there)
  5. As of 2:40 pm EST, Balmung is closed to character creation. Gilgamesh is open. Just keep trying character creation. You'll get where you want to go eventually. So good luck!
  6. I want to say in the 1.0 timeline, it was said the current generation completely grew up under Garlean rule. Looks like 15 years before the Calamity. So 20 years ago.
  7. Just created my alt on Gilgamesh. And one of my friends was finally able to roll on Balmung. Now if only the other one would wake up and read his text messages! I am a little worried by the time he wakes up in an hour Balmung will be closed again.
  8. In the years I played WoW on Wyrmrest Accord, I believe I saw two epidemic style server wide RPs. While people were very enthusiastic for both at first, only one ended positively. The reason behind this was one was very well organized, had pre-defined rules (such as for infection rates, stages of the disease, etc) and had an over arching story line that fell within the realms of established lore. Unfortunately, the other failed because it lacked everything the first had. There was no organization, and in the end the story only served to further the goals of the guild that staged the event. The other participants were merely background characters. I suppose what one can take away from this is for a server wide event to be successful (epidemic or otherwise) the host must be very organized and there must be pre-determined rules that everyone understands and can abide by. Also, all participants should have the ability to effect the outcome of the event. Personally, I think an epidemic event would be interesting and would be an excellent way to introduce the newer members of the community to the more established.
  9. Welcome to a fellow Tennessean! Hope you find lots of roleplay when then servers come back up.
  10. The Lifestream he mentioned was a major plot point of FFVII. Essentially, the Lifestream was the lifeblood and energy of the planet. Shinra Corporation (a shadowy group in FFVII) had learned of a way to convert the Lifestream into electricity and at that point most of the people on the planet used that energy to power their homes, tech, etc. Thus, the planet was being drained of it's essence and then the rest of the game happens. (This being a super quick summary from memory.) As for Aether, I will admit I am not far enough through the story to quite understand it's role, though it seems to be a similar concept to the Lifestream.
  11. I have been playing Healing-type roles for a long time and in several different games. Most of them have been fairly inconsistent lore-wise on healing magics actually function. Over the years I have tried filling a bit of the mechanics of how healing magic *might* work. I have always played with the fact the strength of the life force of the person you are healing has an effect- sometimes a negative one. Healing a person whose life force is weak (from age, for instance) or has been drained by some nefarious means is more difficult and less effective. Your average adventurer would have a stronger life force than the average peasant due to training, magical items, etc. As for things like plagues, they are all different. While esuna is a cure all for gameplay purposes, in an RP story there would probably be more work to do than just that. Perhaps finding the cure is more a matter of discovering the correct combination of elemental blessings and aether. And as mentioned in the conjurer class story, it is entirely possible to channel your own life force into spells by accident. A young or inexperienced conjurer faced with a injury more grievous than she could handle might find herself using her own life to supplement her healing, thus leading to the backlash you mentioned. Of course, these are all suggestions. And if you a doing a more "directed" scene, it is always best to discuses which "rules" all parties wish to follow.
  12. So, if my math is right, I think this is 2:00 pm EST. I think.* Which means, in theory, I could stand awkwardly in a corner and lurk. Standard operating procedure. *Time zones were one of those things in school that always messed with my head.
  13. This sounds like a lovely RP event. I wish I would be able to attend so that I could meet more people here on the server, but alas, Wednesday night is D&D night. But I will check the thread again on the off-chance it gets rescheduled.
  14. Oh, definitely! I would love the opportunity for RP with new people. (Just so long as you don't mind a few noobish lore mistakes ) With the long holiday I should have lots of time to play on Sunday and Monday. If the game actually lets me into the server, of course. Though with the expansion of the NA datacenter set for Monday, I fear some long downtimes may be in our future. But if Monday downtimes equal more playtime for everyone on Tuesday, it is a sacrifice I am willing to make.
  15. Well, where I end up really depends on if I end up finding a home on Balmung, if that makes any sense. I can always roll an alt on Gilgamesh (when it finally opens in a billion years) to hang out with my friends and leave my main on Balmung. I generally stay where I find friends and interesting RP stories.
  16. So I have been lurking on this lovely site for several days now (since the pre-release headstart) and I thought it was time to actually say hello! I am new to FFXIV, though not new to MMO's. I have played more MMOs than is probably good to mention. I usually like to spread my time between experiencing the game and RPing when I can find it. I am also a champion of the drive by heal. Unfortunately my friends are on Gilgamesh currently, so I am here by myself. Though I was lucky enough to be able to create a character on Balmung before it was locked. So thank the Twelve for small favors. Either way, I am looking forward to getting to know the community here in FF:ARR. And if you happen to see a Miquote named Rheah'na Serras running around confused, that's me!
