I've kind of been out of the RP-loop for a while and wanted to do something fun to help myself get back into it. Lately though, in my free time, I've been working on an IC and slightly OOC codex, following Raimdelle's model. You can find a few pages of it here. I decided to keep it on tumblr for now until I can figure out some other website or way to keep it documented. It's coming along nicely but I thought that instead of doing it all on my own, I could get some nice cool RP stuff going! Below, find the "IC" explanation of this little event I thought up. You can also read it here on tumblr if you like. Jace Hunter, the self-proclaimed "Greatest Mind in All Eorzea" needs your help! Big time! While working on his latest codex named "Hunter Codex", after the theologian and naturalist Frandelont Raimdelle. However, even a great mind needs some help every now and then. Jace is calling upon any adventurer, free paladin, or someone who just loves to get their hands dirty every now and then to help him navigate dungeons so he may collect more information on the creatures that inhabit them. [Didn't know if I should put this here, in the Balmung Events, or in the Town Square/Tonberry Lantern, should anything need to be moved, I hope someone will point it out and such so I or someone else can do so, thanks. This plot is something I'd been working on for just a little while now and I think I'm ready to get it rolling. You can read more about my plans for this RP at this link.] Drug use is not uncommon in our realm. However, it is the duty of every law-abiding citizen to report drug use or abuse to their local authorities. Recently, an unusual drug has surfaced that has many confused and stumped. The drug, apparently known as "Dream Ink" has been being distributed around the three major city-states as of late. Usually, the drug is kept secret and generally only causes light euphoria. However, a new strain of Ink has been introduced to the public. The new strain of Ink has been kept under wraps until recently, when a man went on a insane killing spree near Bentbranch--although, he only seriously wounded many. He was subdued by Wood Wailers and immediately taken to the Fane to understand what might have sent the man into his frenzy. The Order of the Twin Adder suspects Dream Ink might be at play here... Plot-Purpose The true intent of this plot is a test, more or less. I'd like to see people spreading rumors about other characters, talking to others and interacting on a truly large scale. Quite frankly, I was/am feeling a little dark and wanted to bring out some really dark RP. That being said, spread those IC-rumors! Secondly, the purpose of this RP is to see where the drug will go. I expect that the drugs production will be halted and further distribution will cease, but, you never know? Rules/Guidelines There aren't any real rules except for: Do not Godmode/metagame when using the rumors. Unless your character knows a person who is using the drug or distributing it, you're extremely discouraged from approaching that person ICly and trying to arrest them or otherwise. The same goes for Law Enforcement or "justice-like" characters. Please go through proper IC-channels and ask questions and all that jazz to find a criminal or user. Rumors For convenience, rumors will be posted on this Google Doc, posted in this thread, and posted on tumblr under the tag: #Dream Ink. When a rumor is being passed around, I would prefer the gist of it be sent to me so I may update frequently. Again, rumors should not be used to metagame, but as a tool for RP. [That all being said, I do hope people can help make this interesting and fun. And here is a little hint for the first big piece of this plot: Try to hang around Ul'dah tomorrow(6/24) around 9pm-10pm EST]

I am glad to see so much input and to see that people are excited for this. I'm getting pretty pumped myself. Since I will be gone from July 1st to the 8th, and since July 8th is supposedly 2.3patch, I will likely begin this plot quite soon and drag it out over the next week and a half or so, supposing I can. So, expect to see this plot in mostly-full-swing by Tomorrow or Wednesday. At the least. At the most, it might have to wait until after I get back. Or perhaps, someone might be able to relay messages to me and such so I can instruct while I am away.

I'm quite glad people are taking interest! I hope more of Balmung will be open to the idea and spread some serious rumors. I really wanna bring out some real emotions in people's characters with this. haha. Likely, I'll be starting this whole thing this week, on the 24th. I'll setup a rumors thread/Google docs, and it should be on tumblr under the tag: #Dream Ink as well. More information will be readily available soon.

Such is my assumption, which is fine, to be honest. While I don't want to restrict it to just Ul'dah, if it comes to that, then whatever. Perhaps the drug will surface up later in different places and people will find a need to be Twin Adder enforcers or something

Awesome, Ragnar. Shoot me a message and we can chitchat! ALSO SOMETHING IMPORTANT THAT I SHOULD HAVE ADDRESSED EARLIER. Rumors, when posted, should not be used to Godmode. Unlessss you know the person in a specific rumor, do not approach them and try to arrest or otherwise interact with someone without proper IC-knowledge. I know, this should be a given, but I foresee some issue with such and I would like to avoid it at all costs.

I'd like to hear about it, if you could message me, that'd be cool. I dunno if it'd be a "controlling" drug, necessarily, but, it might have the same ingredients?

I'd still like some feedback from the RPC community, or questions if there is any confusion. I've gotten tons of positive feedback elsewhere and I think I will begin this plot fairly soon. That being said, I suppose I was kind of cryptic in my last post regarding this, so, I'll be a little more open now that I know what the plot will more or less consist of: An unknown substance has been distributed in the three major city-states. Currently, the investigation is at a halt due to it's origins being unknown, as well as the identity of it's distributors. The first reported case of the substance being used apparently has caused a man to go on a rampage in one of the camps in Thanalan, critically injuring those he thought were "Garleans". The effects of the drug are still under investigation as well. What this plot will revolve around, or what it should revolve around is: The drug. What is it? What does it do? How does it work? For this, any characters who are scholars, alchemists, etc may find this interesting. The criminals behind the drug distribution. Law enforcement RPers and heroic types are welcome. In the same respect, it would be very cool if there were some "middle-man" RPers who wouldn't mind possibly getting caught by law enforcement. Or if the Law enforcement wouldn't mind letting these criminal types get away (don't worry, I have something planned for either situation.) The rumors that spread about the drug. Rumors that "Kami'ra Jaan has been using the drug!" or "I heard a man jumped off a cliff after using it!" The rumors should be sent to me so I can update them, they will be updated so long as people participate and people can use them as fuel for the RP! The drug users. Anyone wanna try the drug out? Maybe be a little addicted to it? Just message me and we will definitely do something big in-game or out-of-game for all to hear/see! Again, this plot is also just me trying out something new with people. I've never done this with a large RP community, and I wanna see how it all plays out. So, I have this one plot idea in my head that I'd really like to kick off. Potentially: it will involved as many Balmung roleplayers as possible, both in-game and out-of-game. I haven't worked out all the details just yet, but, in a sense it is a pretty basic concept: Criminalistic bunch are creating and distributing drugs in an area (undecided between the three cities). Naturally, the response of the cities guards are to investigate, but, there should be chances for adventurers to join the fray, or for righteous people to investigate. Or perhaps you're an Alchemist/Scholar and wish to learn more about the drug? Or perhaps you've got some criminal intent and wish to get a cut of the gil? Whatever the case, I'd love a huge turn-out and lots of participants. The big "catch" of this particular plot, and the reason I want to try and get so many people in the first place is because I'd like to work up some rumors and see how they spread ICly amongst other Roleplayers. That is, roleplayers who are not on RPC, who may have just joined the RP community, or just joined Balmung, etc etc. I'd also like to point out that, another point of this RP is that the criminals are supposed to be stopped at some point, so, if you have a criminal character and don't want them killed or captured, let me know so I can have an NPC take the fall or something. More or less, this plot is an experiment and you are all my little piggies :3 I'll also add that, I am willing to do this over multiple venues so that people can enjoy it and all. Skype RP, In-game, Google Docs, and what have you are all fine to participate. That all being said, I do want to know what people think of the idea before I start moving along with it. I'd also like to know if people enjoy the idea of having rumors spread around during in-game RP time. I'm truly taking everything into consideration, and I thank everyone for their input. As it stands right now, I am leaning toward making to more "Twin Adder" centric, but with a true focus on the Shroud and having powers within that region. That's just the current thought. Knight Kat, I will be glad to work something out with you as soon as things are finalized and I am ready to get started. As it stands, there are some things I realize I'm going to need help with, so, first and foremost, I'd really like to get something of a "committee" together? Simply to make it easier to read over lore and brainstorm and what not. Another thing high on my list of priorities is simply getting my little Lalafell leveled up! Haha. But, other than that, I truly thank everyone for their help, feedback, and support! If people would like to help out and be a part of the group/linkshell and really get the ball rolling, send me a PM or add "Kamiwolfy" on skype and lets get some stuff done!

Part of my reasoning for making this is to gather some support and help for fleshing it out. I apologize if I didn't make that clear. I get what you're saying by having it under the Twin Adder, but, I do feel that the Twin Adder are a little more wordly--which does help with pieces of the RP, yes--But, I did want to do something more "Shroud-centric". I imagine that, while out in Ul'dah xyz of the Blah-branch of the Wood Wailer/Gods' Quiver finds a criminal doing something bad and pursues. However, having zero jurisdiction in Ul'dah because of the Red Wings, and Sultansworn and Brass Blades and what have you, the member is arrested along with the original criminal, causing tension between the groups. Basically, what I mean to say is, I would much rather have this group only have power and 'control' of the shroud and it's laws. To build upon what you were saying about lances and mercenary and stuff. I feel that it could be something like that? I wouldn't want to restrict people to only use certain weapons, so, perhaps we are a mercenary-like branch of the Wailers/Quivers. Again, I am mostly just asking for some friendly ideas, possibly some help building on the idea, and the like. Also, as I am dumb and do not know how to quote two people, what ExKage had to say is something I already understand. I used to play on a very strict Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas RP server. If you were ever caught meta-gaming or anything of the sort, you were banned for life, basically. And, if you wanted to do some big bank robbery RP, you had to clear it with the mods of the server and the police officers on the server. So, I get the communication thing 1000%

Not all criminals are created equal. Having had a major setting changing rp plot going for the last ...four years on another site (with an original setting open to being changed, not like ffxiv where most things are immutable), I can safely say that I'm happy playing a low key criminal with hopes for low-key criminal infighting that can easily be ignored by the majority of players if they'd rather not get involved, while at the same time being fulfilling for those who do choose to get involved. (so. much. time. investment.) But, eh, the problem with a lot of rp criminal organizations, in my eyes, is that they're so independent of each other and the world they're in, giving them a sort of. . .disconnected feeling. At least for me. It's hard to set them up so they feel organic, harder than it is to fit into the already established policey-type groups that, in the case of FFXIV, is already in the setting and acknowledged. I mean, for a criminal group you have to figure out why they're doing what they're doing (most criminals aren't evil for the sake of being evil or for Big Shiny Evil Doom), how they're doing it, why they weren't heard of in the setting before, who their connections are, and how they fit in with the other various things going on (be it economically or whatever, you know, do they have enemies besides the law? friends? etc). Without thinking all of that through, I think it can get boring to play criminals, because you're alone in the soap bubble, and you're probably getting slotted into generic-bad-guy real quick. Not to say that you can't create a convincing or fun group of whatevers without that, but imo that's why "bad guys" tend to either poof or turn into a trope/stereotype quick. And not to say that I'm an expert on it either, but after spending the past year really amping up both sides in the rp plot conflict and making them both appealing enough for people to want to play characters on one side, or the other, or both (and finding out the hard way that slapping people together into an isolated cell-type group without adequate consideration for who they are as individuals leads to bad, bad things and tossing out several month's worth of work after it just flat out doesn't jive nicely), I've found that the more work that goes into building the connections and reasons behind a group, the longer it lasts and the easier it makes the rp. Problem is, doing all that background and backend stuff takes time, and unless you're an established member of the community who is known for sticking things through and being generally okay with the arpee stuff, you're going to have a rough start to it. Eff that, man, starting stuff in general can be rough. Much less leading stuff. (sidenote: experience tells me that agreeing to become a moderator/officer/temporary-gm-I'll-be-back-in-several-months/whatever is a trap. Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. Who am I kidding. We're rpers: masochists by nature.) Not to say that it's impossible or not rewarding, it's just. . .time investment. Headaches. Then again, I am quite strenuously avoiding research at this point in time and am amped up on caffeine (late night jitters have begun), so er, salt and stuff. I suppose I can agree with what you're saying. Though, despite that, I am still looking for some people to help me out with this Wood Wailers thing. As I said before, if this can really take off, I'd be willing to do some stuff with some Criminal/bad guy RPers that want to wreak some more havoc than normally for once. On the topic of moderator and officer and all that, I've done it before. And I am willing to do it again, but only if I see as much effort from members as I put in myself. I am sorry to say this about something that hasn't even lifted off the ground yet, but, I would be just as willing to let this flop--should there be some kind of lack of effort, as much as I am willing to let it fly.

There seem to be many IC-criminals, but, it doesn't seem as if they're doing a whole lot to disturb the peace. I assume that this might be because there are more good groups than bad? I'd definitely like to see more "bad guys", but, I did really wanna make this group a thing now that I've begun thinking more on it. I feel like, if this group, or other "good" groups approached bad groups and said: "Hey, lets drum up some drama and make some enemies." there could be some awesome RP between the two, and that is what I hope to do sometime, should I get this Wood Wailer branch going!
