A Walk In The Shroud or Maybe Not...((Open to All))
Shayrei replied to Keru / E'ir's topic in Town Square (IC)
Her world spun as she tipped back against the hyur, her feet slipping as she tried to catch her own footing against the mossy river rock. A sharp and sudden gasp filled her lungs as she felt him falling back with her. Rhysa's hands grappled to steady herself against him, using him to shield herself from the rocky riverbed. As the motion settled and they found themselves in the waist deep water she sighed out her held breath. Rhysa's breathing labored to a slow, deep and methodical pant through her nostrils as she felt the water moving over her skirted rear. She sat rigid against him, her eyes wide as she slowly let go of her death grip on him, her hands lifting slowly to examine splashed sleeves which dripped down over her at the motion. The glare slowly turned to her second 'would-be-hero', her tightly knitted brow lifting as she saw him laid out in the water. Her body shook once. And again.. quicker now. The small miqo'te women reeled back against the hyur as she began to laugh. -
A Walk In The Shroud or Maybe Not...((Open to All))

Sizhan watched with a canted head and sideways glance as the man approached from behind and sneakily worked his way toward his font. The mount’s stance shifted from foot to foot as the man’s ands worked to his face and Sizhan shook his head, water from his mouth spraying over anyone nearby as he chirped out an indifferent “kweh” before going back to his business, dunking his head messily in the water before lifting his neck again to let the liquid move down his throat. Rhysa’s glare rose to meet the hyur’s eyes as she wiped the water from her face, her tail flicking behind her in irritation. "Well now you’re just rewarding his awful behavior!” She stomped down into the water herself, her hands waving in gesture. Sizahn turned back at her voice, pulling away from the stranger and stomped playfully in the water to echo her movements, his wings fluttering beside him as he squawked. “Cute, very cute…” The small woman grabbed at the reins to her mount, pulling his head down to her eye level. Her free head stretched toward the saddle where she unhooked a medium sized leather pouch from the front of his gear and slid herbbow and quiver from around the horn. "Enough of you... go! When you are ready to behave like you've any training, find me." She tossed the reins to the saddle, wrapping the quickly around the horn before gesturing him off, shouldering her own gear now. The bird replied with a fluffing of his feathers and an ecstatic series of trills before he turned abruptly, his hind end knocking into Rhysa and sending her off her feet and toward the water with a gasp. -

Rhysa shook her head, her curiosity flitting away with a flip of her hair as she moved passed the two and toward the large bird with frustration in her step. "Let's go, you!" She moved for his reins and the chocobo pulled away from her grasp, offering a tickled trill as it splashed further into the creek, stamping happily in the moving water. Hand went to her hips as she watched with a narrowed gaze, her ears pinning back. "You foul little miscreant..." -

Sizhan lifted his neck, canting his head slightly at the touch as water dribbled from his beak and back into the water. "I don't recommend you drinking from downstream of him..." She sneered, taking only a small step forward. Sizhan trilled, dipping his face into the water and lifting his neck to point his head upward, swallowing again messily. Rhysa cringed, shaking her head distastefully, "I apologize for that.. him.. interrupting your rest, Hyur." Her gaze moved to the approaching miqo'te, an ear perking slightly in interest as she peered at him from afar, hoping to distinguish his heritage through characteristic traits. -

Rhysa's hand thumped the bird's beak as it motioned to peak at her shoulder. "I will eat you..." Her lips curled back into a malicious grin, that broke into an amused chuckle as the bird's head canted to a conceding "Kweh.." Her head shook as she pushed the brush away, breaking into the clearing with a hesitated step as she saw the hyur knelt at the water. The smile on her lips fading. The bird tugged at her hold on the reins, pulling away and trotting through the flora loudly as he made his way over to the water, showing little regard to the male next to him as his head dipped toward water greedily. "Sizhan!" Her scold was a quiet hiss as she tamped her foot to the ground, eyeing the back of the hyur's head, her distance kept at the treeline as she fully cleared the brush. -
My take on the anthropology of the Keepers of the Moon
Shayrei replied to Shayrei's topic in RP Discussion
Some of this makes for some nteresting places that Keeper culture could go as a whole in light of the calamity, but it has absolutely no basis in lore whatsoever. I know it's frustrating that we don't details on such an atypical culture that many RPers are keen on being a part of, but that doesn't give us the right to just make it up and form a "player made compendium". Nope, you're very correct, and I did say that the sociological aspects were the made up bits. Not saying mine is the basis that everyone would RP with by -any- means... I just like to see where and how others have filled in their own bits to flesh out their idea of the culture. As far as I'm concerned we can all continue to play as we will, we'll eventually find a group that RPs as we do and we'll all continue to /eye the ones we find strange. Hah I just wanted to see how far fetched I was! A few decades it seems! -
My take on the anthropology of the Keepers of the Moon
Shayrei replied to Shayrei's topic in RP Discussion
I don't really think Keepers should veer into the area of family houses personally. I like the idea of small tribes better. I hadn't seen that thread! I'll have to read into it, now! I think my goal with the quite different shift in cultural ways was to be just that, different. I mean they diverged for a reason, right? So while seekers are tribal and 'primitive' for lack of a better term since my brain is in sleepy time mode right now, Keepers have stepped beyond that towards a world of industry and trade (something I think, from examples of the U tribe in game, that some Seekers struggle with). With that would come a shift in value that's placed on physicality and battle prowess(seekers) and lean it in toward wealth and status. This of course is a generalization by any definition. Some Keepers may very well be more similar to Seekers still with the only difference being the shift in Nuhn/male roles. I thought there would be /should be some shift in the relationships as well. While the seekers tend to be polyamorous, I understand the Keepers to lean more toward to monogamy. The structure of the higher class's "courtship" seemed to fit with a matriarchy as well as still cling to some sort of tribal ancestry. Freedom would be found in the majority of the population within the normal/lower castes. As to the house phrasing, I think I just worded it incorrectly. I didn't mean they had literal houses.. although it does fit with my structure, I suppose. There, though, I merely meant they would gain affluence. All very thought worthy points though, thank you!! Thank you for this! I will be removing my post as I believe my largely under formed idea of the timeline is problematic. My ideas require far too much time to have passed to allow such evolution of the race's cultures. At the end of the day, play what you play, right? It always makes for an interesting story! -

Communes is just something I came up with. A play on community which is used in the wiki. I thought it fit the bill for tribe, but not a tribe.. community.. but a closed one? Haha Well, uh, because Communes is normally associated with Communism, and your society doesn't fit that at all, it was just confusing is all! Thanks for the clarification! Interesting.. I've never associated communes with communism... Mostly hippies and naked people. >.> Hah -

Much, if not most of the sociology portion is just stuff I've pulled from thin air in an effort to build up a sense of self for the culture. Communes is just something I came up with. A play on community which is used in the wiki. I thought it fit the bill for tribe, but not a tribe.. community.. but a closed one? Haha -
Removing as I have been educated! I believe much of my theory is too far evolved from where the timeline is now. Given a few decades things could turn towards this. This is why I enjoy RP communities! Also.. sorry about the spoiler messups... stupid phones.

Her eyes squinted at the shattered beams of sun that managed to squeeze through the dense canopy above her as she looked around the treetops, trying to grab her bearings again as she stood, dusting off her rear end. The large bird almost seemed to laugh as it trilled happily, nudging against Rhysa's shoulder. "Enjoy that, did you? You do realize your kind is edible, hm?" She pushed the bird away, moving her fingers through her hair in search of and leafy debris. Her tail flipped in irritation as she turned to harness her satchel back onto the chocobo's saddle. She looked around once more, turning toward the creek, the water's babbling in ear shot. She took hold of the bird's reins, leading the bird aggressively away from the tussled ground, her free hand rubbing over the back of her hip tenderly, "You marmot-brained bird.." The mount squawked loudly in response and Rhysa sighed, her ears pinning down at the noise and she grabbed for his beak, shushing him angrily. "Nothing. I want to hear nothing from you." -
So I've been more or less lurking around this site since I developed a fascination for FFXIV:ARR and learned about the RP communities here-in. It's a little daunting coming into something so organized as this community as a new-comer, but I figure it's about time I say hello if for nothing more than to gain a few friends around these parts. I'm proud to call myself a WoW veteran. I played for the larger part of six years (maybe longer it does seem to eat large spans of your life after awhile!) where, after meeting my future husband, I was torn from a world of raiding and introduced to the world of RP. I've been a large advocate of RP/PvE ever since. I cut my teeth on Maelstrom before surviving a tour of duty on Moon Guard. As I've said, I met my husband while playing WoW as well as many, many long time friends and I look forward to making those bonds here now, too... Except the husband role, that one is permanently filled and soulbound, sorry. Aside from WoW, I have spent time with many MMOs, never quite catching the fervor that I got when I played WoW. Aion and Rift, SWTOR and GW2... I even have plans for WildStar if it would ever come out! However I'm eager to get that home-y obsession going with FFXIV so I always come back to it no matter what else there is! (... is that terribly sad?) Before learning of RP in MMOs I spent a lot of my time participating in random forum RPs here and there and clocked many hours just writing random silly fiction for fun in an effort to spur some creative juices into paintings and other art. I have three main characters on Balmung currently and I'm eager to get them involved in as many stories and with as many players as I can. I tend to be in character at most times, even if running around! I enjoy walk up RP and will RP with the silliest of trolls just so I can /em. If you see me in game, please don't hesitate to say hi! I also really enjoy playing characters in others stories... so.. if you needs some random person to help your storyline progress, let me know! I'll be happy to help! What else... I tend to be one of those annoying people that uses /em to be very descriptive when I post, but I really love painting a picture of what just what my character is doing and how with all the subtle nuances there can be.... and I usually do literally paint or draw scenes after a particularly entertaining RP session. So it's good to have an exact idea of what is going on. That's enough of a wall of text I suppose. I look forward to getting to know you all!

((A little prefacing: The bounty involved in this situation is part of a small event our company is using as a short story-line. While we have some of the details worked out, if you are interested in joining or participating in the story in some way or form, let us know! I think it'd be fun to open this to more than just our small, growing company!)) It had been a little more than a week’s time since they hadcome together to discuss their first pursuit as a group. She stared with tired eyes at the crinkled and worn parchment that had hung as a notice on their company board and the short list of names next to it that was now riddled with stricken-through words, notes and large question marks that followed a convoluted diagram of arrows to connect fragments together. She shuffled them in her hands a few times as if changing their position in the small deck of papers would suddenly give her the answers she was looking for. She let the papers fall to the table after stacking them together neatly and moved her hands to her eyes, rubbing them wearily. Wide eyes blinked the world back into focus as she moved her gaze around the Quicksand, watching the adventurers and tradesmen confer over hot meals and tall drinks. A rather short looking stoutly fellow made his way to thenotice board that hung near her table and she watched as he reached with lifted heels and stubby fingers to replace a few pieces of parchment. Her head canted as she watched him struggle to reach for a pin near the top of the board, his rounded belly pressed tightly to the wall, mussing many of the papers that he’d just worked to refresh. Frowning, she made her way over, tapping the stranger on the shoulder to grab his attention as she cleared her throat. She motioned to the pins as he turned to her; old eyes squinted to focus on her behind fallen glasses. “Ma--?” the soft hoarseness of her voice surprised her and she swallowed, clearing her throat again. “My apologies, may I help you?” The old man grunted a response, handing her the note and pinbefore shuffling off behind the counter again. She lifted the paper to its place, pinning it with much more ease than her predecessor. She took a small step back looking over the new posts hereye catching a new copy of the bounty that had been torturing her at the table.

Thank you Duhbine for explaining further for me! I should have done it in the OP. I'll edit it later. I'm glad others found it useful! I knew others had to be as in the dark as I was. I'm new to the game so wasn't sure if this transferred over from 1.0 or if it was new, but I was happy to figure it out. At any rate, it is a wonderful idea.

I'm not sure if this suggestion has been made somewhere and I just didn't see it, but I'd like to offer it to others since I just discovered it myself (perhaps I'm late to the party, who knows!). I've taken to editing my search info to include the simple tag of "Roleplayer". Now if and when people examine my character a small 'chat bubble' appears under my name that shows others that label. Since we don't have addons, I think this is the best way for us to recognize each other, especially in the daunting task of walk-up RP. I'm sure this could be expanded to explain that you're 'New to RP', 'OOC currently', "OOC if:..." etc. Hope this helps someone else out there! --------------------------------------------------------------- From Duhbine: "To edit your search info. Go to Social, Click on your name and go Edit Search Info, and add at the bottom in Search Comments what you want to put. Just for people that don't know how to"

Hi there! It is a daunting thing, especially with the lack of an 'official' RP server (thanks Square!). Aside from the obvious "just do it" approach or "keep an eye out for other RPers", I'd stay in touch with community events like the upcoming Gala or Sunday evening tavern events. (http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=20) I don't know if this helps yet, since I haven't run into much random RP yet, but I've taken to changing my 'search info' to include "Roleplayer". This way when someone examines me, there is a small chat bubble icon under my name in the examine window that points out that I RP. If you ever see Daphine Rysen roaming around (and she doesn't look completely derpy in crafting/gathering gear..or a moogle hat :dodgy: ) run up and say hi! Also, I would suggest if you're not going to join a company, at least look for a LS so you have some sort of connection to other RPers. I'm still looking for a few myself! Good luck!
