You and me both, Medi. Even if I know them. Let's see if we can rp sometime. Now, I have to sound like a jerk for a minute here, so I apologize. It seems some people are not getting the point to this topic. When I originally posted it, I got a lot of contacts and we friended eachother, but then I would never hear from them, and when I mentioned trying to rp, they never really seemed interested in actually trying. Dodging the question in some cases as if they felt like it was a bother. I got some more of the same this time as well. Folks tell me they're interested, but they are showing methe exact opposite. So I am going to have to just put my foot down about this right now. This topic is meant for people who place high value on rp. Not people who only rp when they get bored of crafting and leveling, or who are just looking to collect people for their list so they can move down the ladder when their preferred contacts aren't around. I don't care if I don't cap soldiery for the week. RP comes first. I don't care that I still don't have all the ATMA for one weapon. I will gladly put that aside for rp. RP is my main thing, and if you're going to contact me through this topic, it should be yours, as that i swhat I am looking for. There are plenty of buffet style rpers out there for you to pick from if you're just looking for a few new names to look at for when the mood strikes you. So please. If you're not looking for reliable rp, do not contact me. I am not saying people need to stop playing the game, or that I expect them to set aside a certain amount of time every day, but I need to know I can count on people for some level of meaningful interaction, and when 2 weeks go by with nothing, that's showing me you're not interested. Thanks for those who really -are- interested. This was not meant as any sort of attack. I just really need people to understand the point here, and it seems I did't convey it very well before.

Glad there still seems to be some interest here. Still looking for folks who are serious about rp and looking for reliable contacts.

It appears the interest in this topic has died out, and I left my FC last night so am currently entirely unconnected. So I'll ask this. Are there any rp linkshells that are actually used to find rp? I've been through so many of them at this point, I can't remember them anymore, but they all have had the same problems for me. They are one or all of the following: Just another general chat channel where anyone who isn'ta big name is ignored, and said big names use channel to broadcast ic drama. They're used only as a means for broadcasting when scheduled events are starting. They are borderline inactive, offering only silence, or going silent when someone states they're seeking rp. Basically, I'd like an environment where people can log in and check if anyone wants to rp, as opposed to a general chat that just broadcasts events starting.

He's a scholar at heart, and his main focus is archaeology, though he also has experience as a treasure/bounty/monster hunter. He's got a calm personality. No wiki. I would like to do one soon, though. As for where he frequents, anywhere, really. As a researcher, he constantly travels to different places to follow leads and obtain information. His hunter background also puts him on the road a lot. He's used to long periods in uncomfortable areas and weather conditions. I am trying not to close doors by sayin g"He only stays here and here and here" but basically, at the moment, he frequents various settlements, main cities included.

Just tossing this out. I took some time off because of...stuff, but I am back now, and still looking for rp. Sorry for disappearing from the topic. I am no longer playing the same IC character. The avatar and name are the same, but he is a different person entirely, an deasier to get along with.

Beastling Mania was a ton of fun, and a real uproar when first place went to the bathroom creature. If folks are into regular rp and fun events with progression, stop on by. Been a member since early on, and the amount of thought and dedication that goes into the guild is impressive.
-
Anytime. If I can do it, believe me, you can too. Though the situation you described, I lock up in those as well, heh. I'll see if I can find you in game soon. Also, still trying to contact people from here.
-
You could create the character at an off hour. That is what I did.

Just another update. Currently, I've been going through everyone one by one trying to contact them in game when I could. So far, haven't been able to catch anyone online, except one person who I assume isn't interested any longer as they did not answer. I'm going to keep trying, so don't feel like I've given up or anything if I haven't contacted you. Also, Lament, I had tried a few times unsuccessfully to get in touch with you about the LS. I'll try to catch you as soon as I can as well.
-
I'm still keeping up with this for those interested. It's just a lot to try and keep up with, but I haven't given up. I've spoken to some of you in game already, even rped with a couple of you. I hope others here have gotten use out of this thread as well. Anyway, I'll be branching out and contacting more of yall soon. My poor brain can only handle so much at once.
-
I know I still haven't interacted with most that have posted interest here. I wonder if any of you would be interested in forming a temporary linkshell for us to keep in contact? I know most of us are in linkshells, but this would -not- be another looking for rp linkshell. It would exist only for those of us here who fit the criteria of my posts to be able to keep in touch, until we get acquainted and have a healthy group.
-
Of course. Everyone here is encouraged to also communicate. Maybe we can end up getting a group or something to make communication easier for everyone involved.
-
Hey folks. I'm still keeping up. Just trying to figure how to handle all the interest that has popped up. As always, thanks for the replies.

Naunet, Sorry I misunderstood. I thought you were asking what sort of plot I like, not about my character. If it's character specifics you're asking about, well hmm... I'm keeping background details to a minimal because...he's icly a class that isn't implemented yet, and there's no lore. And since I haven't done any development yet, he's kind of a blank slate, as he has yet to have a chance to be influenced by many people through rp, but...he's not the most social, though he's not specifically unpleasant. He's strongly goal driven, and has a bit of an insecurity issue. I guess he's best described as an antihero, or something of the like. I don't do massive backgrounds anymore because I've found it's too easy for the character to break from that dependin gon rp.

Rosekitten, Yeah, that sucks... Especially if you actually get started and then they bail. Then you're sorta left with a busted character... I honestly haven't been looking too hard either. This is really the first big attempt I've made in...months. Not that I'm busy, lol. Just tough to keep riding the roller coaster. Naunet, I typically like to slip into any plot. How to put this, hmm... I like to slip into my character and just be my character. Sometimes that means small talk. Sometimes that means being involved in something big. Whatever it is. I like my rp to be organic. I don't like anything forced, overly structured, or heavily scheduled. I like all sorts of plot and rp. I just try not to get involved in too much "sad" at a time as a game is an escape... I'm not so much looking to be brought into others plots, as looking to just be able to develop my character, and help others develop theirs, be that through chit chat, or through super intense story arcs. Basically, I'm open to a lot. Oceanofstars, Don't feel like you aren't important because it's your first post. You're views, and presence here are as important and mean as much as anyone here. A high post count and lots of rep is a popularity thing. Not a credibility thing, so feel free to speak your mind. I know that's kind of hard. I still feel the same way myself but eh, we can work to strengthen ourselves. Keep em coming... I'm not the greatest at this but I'ma try!

Thanks for the replies so far. Val, I'm open to rp with most character types. I do realize that certain types just don't work well together, but I have rarely had that problem. Kheni'to, I'm fine with rp with new rpers. Also willing to help out with advice and such. LiadansWhisper, Poke anytime. Or maybe I will, if I can bring myself to risk it. Also, haven't I seen you around someplace? Name sounds familiar. Faye, thanks. I may just do that sometime, and/or ask in FC again. Teveriel, Yeah it sucks. And what's worse is the people who bail are always talking about how hard it is to find rp, and how -they- keep getting let down. Makes me like "wtf?" Anyways, I'll hopefully take you up on that soon. Again, thanks. And let me just reiterate this for any interested or who may be wondering. This isn't a "looking for RP" thread. "It's a looking for RP CONNECTIONS" thread. I'm not looking to just rp with someone, and then go about my merry (or not so) way. And I'm not looking to just throw myself into another pool of people and hope to get lucky when someone is bored enough, or has no one else to talk to or rp with. Nor am I looking to throw others into that. I'm looking to establish reliable contacts for people who are serious about trying to find something more than sitting at the inn, or being herded to an event. So those who are in so many linkshells they can't keep up, or who have 30 friends on at any given time, or who can't say two words without 10 people tripping over themselves to reply likely won't get much from this endeavor, as they've already got established connections. Again, though, that doesn't mean they're not welcome, or anything like that. I just want to paint a clear picture of what it is I'm trying to do, and I don't want anyone in either group to enter into it looking for something that isn't there. The people who would benefit from this are the ones who have maybe 5 or 6 friends on their list who don't particularly want to talk to them. Or the ones who are on other peoples lists, but are always at the bottom. Or the ones who have fallen so much that they have real trouble mustering the will and courage to keep trying, for fear of failing again. Thanks again, and I hope we can make something come of this.

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, and yes, I know there are rp linkshells, but they've not proven very useful to me so far. So here it goes. On the rp intensity scale I classify myself as hardcore, and if I really find a good groove, immersion (a step above hardcore). The problem is I just can't seem to really connect anywhere. What I am mainly looking for, are other rpers who are looking for reliable connections for rp that they can feel secure in knowing they can count on for ic interaction more than once a week. Maybe you're really shy. Maybe you're socially incompetent. Maybe you've had rotten luck. Maybe what mainstream rp has become just isn't for you (scheduled events/tavernsitting/etc). I'm all of the above, and more. These are the types I'm mainly looking to get a hold of. Not that I won't rp with others though. I will. For me, rp is at the top of the list in an mmo. The game, no matter how good it is, just lacks something without it. I have had a few dedicated rp partners in my time, and to date, none have stuck around with me. And because I work best in smaller groups, with fewer people, and more tightly woven stories, this either causes me to lose the will to play the character anymore, or makes it all but impossible to continue without retconning everything or coming up with a lot of contrived stuff. So I guess this is me reaching out to others who can't seem to find what they're looking for. As for myself, I don't bail on rp with people. I am looking to establish ongoing rp. Relationships, plot, and stories that is always going, and always growing. Not necessarily though structured story arcs, but through just...being our characters. Though there would be story arcs. Characters person story arcs. Larger story arcs. Basically, reliable, steady rp and character development. I hope this didn't come off as overly negative, and I hope I adequately conveyed my thoughts. If anyone thinks they'd be interested, send me a pm or something.

Rp in gears of war? That must be really something. Oh, and hello.

Ahh I was getting ready to send you a message, then I realized you're on Gilgamesh. I as well am largely bound to daytime because of scheduling stuff. I feel your pain. Don't give up though. I'm sure there must be a few others hidden away that you can link up with. I wish you luck.

Agreed. I am always pretty iffy when people do this, because I just don't know if they're doing it as an "in". I try not to act on internal feelings or thoughts like that, but if I know it's meant to grab people, I may try to work with it in -some- way. The aspect of this that bothers me is there's usually things tacked on that are insulting to a person, or people around them. I have all too often seen people emote thinking and such, that is designed to let everyone know how unimportant they consider another character. ICly, we can't react to this, but it has displayed to all present that so and so thinks so and so is stupid, or ugly, or whatever. Personally, when I emote something along the lines of a thought or a feeling, I will include 2 key elements. The first is for the player behind the character, so that -they- can become interested if they wish. The second is a hook for the character themself to act on, if the player decides to do so. Its just safer. There's really more to it, but yea, with so many different people with different styles, it's better to play it safe. Something visual, audible, etc that the character could have picked up. For example, the one you used about being lost. *Bob enters the room, feeling lost, and approaches the counter, ringing the bell to get the shopkeeps attention.* This is the "wrong" way, right? Yes and no. It is, because you're not not giving anyone a hook, and you're not being specific enough. Your character is -feeling- lost, but where does it go from there? How much, if any, is he showing that outwardly? If someone is paying attention, it's not impossible that they could notice that he's feeling lost, even if you didn't emote it specifically. People show what they're feeling. But by not being specific, we don't know if you meant for there to be an "in" or not. So while it may not necessarily be "wrong", it's a rather poor way to do it. *Bob enters the room, clearly appearing uneasy. He looks around the room, his head moving from one corner to the other, eyes darting about. It's fairly clear that he is unfamiliar with the area. He looks back ahead, eyes fixed on the counter, and moves swiftly to it, ringing the bell.* Same character, same scenario. Bob is still feeling lost, but this time, we know for sure he has some sort of issue that anyone present can pick up, and react to. Much better way to do it, in my opinion. Oh, I forgot to put this above, so I'll tack it on here. Too often, I see people -reacting- on things they couldn't realistically react to, as if every character is so perceptive, and their senses are so finely honed... It's silly.

It's really not complicated, as I see it. There are three main reasons. The first reason is some people are just not comfortable with it. I won't go into depth as to why, as that would turn this into a psychology discussion, but that's it in it's most blunt form. There are many more detailed reasons that would fall under this one. The second reason...Many people are just tight-assed and hyper-sensitive, or sticks in the mud. Again, there are many more detailed reasons that would fall under this one, but that would turn it into a psychology discussion. So again, in it's most blunt form. The third, some people have been soured on it from previous games where it's always too much, which, in itself, can bring about either, or both of the first two reasons, and yet at the same time, it's still its own reason. I had a lot more typed up but...I decided it would be better to not post it...

9/29/13 I have transformed this character from Elezen to Hyur.

Wow. Just...wow. I've already got 0 faith in people, and somehow, this still surprised me. Truly disgusting. These people must truly, truly have no dignity whatsoever to not feel shame for this sort of thing.
