  1. I'd love to join a guild like this. I'm also curious what kind of activity the guild has very late at night, because that's when I mostly get to be online.
  2. This may be perfect for me, if this group is still recruiting. I'm still really new to ARR and barely played much yet, but I'm primarily available at around midnight EST onward for a couple hours (probably three at most) at night.
  3. I really love your art style. The black and white with just little bits of color seems so much more eye-catching than fully coloring everything.
  4. It's always been tempting to give LoL another try, but I'm just not that great as those sort of competitive games. But I really, really loved playing Anivia, probably because I like birds.
  5. Thanks so much! They horrified coworkers. I see them as more fascinating than horrifying, but then again my coworkers are "normal" people who don't understand even ten percent of the things I say/do.
  6. I vaguely mentioned in a previous post I'd bring in this same cosplay or doing something from Adventure Time, specifically Marshall Lee, but part of me has a subtle interest in being Princess Bubblegum in her lab outfit. So, at the present moment, it's a tad undecided. I don't know if my boyfriend wants to go, or if he has something couple-related in mind if he did. I know my friend is talking about being Chell from Portal. Total lack of certainty at the moment. (Also, I rolled a Conjurer version of my character on Balmung and spent the last hour trying to figure out the game more, and I think I like Conjurer just a bit more than Arcanist already, so I might stick with it.)
  7. I wonder if I could benefit from hopping over to Balmung, because I am only level three anyway and I can't tell where the majority is hiding.
  8. This is me on a typical day. Sadly, this picture does not show that the underside of my hair is colored teal (though it looks more green than teal), but it's already faded so much that it doesn't matter. This is me wearing costume contacts that I just recently got in the mail for Halloween.
  9. I MAY actually skip the binding this time around because I'm thinking I can get away with one of my Genie Bras (they're like a sports bra type thing that feels like really not wearing any sort of bra), considering I'm wearing a small men's sweater-type top over a button-up shirt. I'm a very paranoid individual and despite the safe ways to bind, I'd rather avoid having to mess around with it too often because...well... I like my breasts as they are and fear whatever damage could come of squashing them in a binder. I think also that I'm concerned because the ultimate plan is to go out to parties, and I don't want to have a binder on and be careless while drunk. Thus, when I get a binder, it might be sometime down the road. I could use the extra money in my pocket, anyway. For drinks and whatnot. I definitely aim to get pictures, to have a friend snap a few before we do anything. When Genericon rolls around, assuming my friend and I get to go, I'd either love to use the same costume or be Marshall Lee from Adventure Time (because it seems relatively easy to do and would be super fun). On a completely, completely unrelated note (sort of?) all this time I've spent asking for costume help, I've barely played Final Fantasy XIV (lack of time available between work, really), and I'd love to catch some of you in-game on Gilgamesh because this seems to be one of the truly nicest communities I've hopped into in a long while.
  10. EDIT: I also want to grab a headset with a microphone on it, but that should be fairly easy, I figure, now that I'm figuring out how to actually utilize eBay (I can't believe I've never online shopped before!) I did some searching on fake tattoo sleeves instead of taking time to draw on tattoos (especially considering it's looking like I might have to work a chunk of the evening on Halloween and don't want them all messed up). They actually have some neat ones, so the costume is 90% done! All that's left is ordering the chest binder. I just haven't measured my chest/bust yet to accurately order (and waiting a couple hours for my paycheck to go through). I also need shoes, but I think I want to just grab a pair of gray Converse. My wig should be here in less than two days. I'm getting antsy about it. I just want to thank everyone so much again for all the help here with this, being someone who's never done a cosplay-type costume before. Even though this was initially meant for Halloween, my friend I'm going out with expressed interest in going to Genericon together next year; I've never been to a convention in all my 24 years and it sounds exciting to me. Already I have a list of other characters running through my head I'd love to dress as for such things. Whenever I decide on whatever I want to do next for a cosplay, I'll definitely be referring here again to all of you for your insight and advice. I have a nice little bookmarked list of various resources that I'm sure will help me a lot in future endeavors.
  11. My only gripe on tattoo sleeves is that they so far are "generic" in that they're tribal markings or dragons, or skulls... I'm digging around though for the possibility of even finding something heavily purple. I would totally make one myself but presently I lack the time to not only go fetch supplies, but find time between work to put it together. But I will tab that video for later, thanks so much!
  12. Thank you so much for the binding measurement info; I'm pretty horrified of the whole binding thing. It turns out glasses were super easy to find. I ended up getting cheap reading glasses from a convenience store. The next step is to handle the tattoos. I almost wondered if I can't find fake tattoo sleeves that are "fitting." I'm otherwise figuring out the best methods to draw them so that they last and look nice.
  13. I'm here to poke this thread again with more chest-binding inquiries. I have been looking at the following link, specifically the third option (the tri-top chest binder): http://ftm.underworks.com/ I wanted to know if anyone can tell me if that should be good and safe, and furthermore how to know what size to order! I mean, I don't know how long I'll be wearing it on Halloween. I'm fearful now that I won't even get the day off from work, which would mean I'm only wearing it for a few hours after work from say...midnight to three or four AM (doubtful even that late). I want to be sure it's safe and okay because I'm very paranoid about this; I'm a very paranoid person in general, and I've heard some really bad things can come of chest binding unsafely. On another note a good friend wants to go to Genericon (spelling?) next year, and I've never been to a convention, but I considered using this same costume idea there. She mentioned they have something related to Night Vale (a photo shoot, I believe), so I also am considering that whatever chest binder I get is not only safe, but good to use again. So again, thank you for any further help. I still haven't bought clothes yet. My wig and contacts are still in the mail, probably arriving in the next two days. I'm waiting to get through another week of working out (which I started doing a month ago in an attempt just to get in shape prior). Blah blah blah, I'll stop rambling. Further help is welcome and appreciated! I've been trying to do some research, but I've been lacking adequate time to do so. Oh, also, where should I look for glasses just for costume purposes? I like the idea of thicker framed ones with purple frames.
  14. Thank you, both of you, and you're both very welcome to add my character mentioned in the opening post. I'll add people's characters mentioned here when I next get in-game, too.
  15. So, I'm getting ready to finally play FFXIV and RP. I just got computer upgrades and it runs beautifully (along with several other games I couldn't play before). I'm incredibly new to the game and know next to nothing, so I feel very lost. I'd love to find a little group for casual RP and playing the game/learning alongside RP. I'm usually on late at night (around midnight EST) when I am around. If it helps, I'm playing a Miqo'te; I don't mind race-specific groups/guilds. My character is an Arcanist and I'm literally only level 3. It's just been rough playing windowed on low settings, but it's more encouraging to now have the ability to play full-screen on higher settings. So, expect to see me around as N'arysha Eshir, and thank you for any replies!
  16. Well, without getting this conversation too awkward, how would binding likely handle a C-cup bust? And I'll do my best to have pics! I aspire to make sure I have one of my boyfriend and I together before we're too drunk to know what's going on.
  17. Thanks so much for all the links and help everyone. It's funny how the "strange" aspects of such a seemingly simple costume were easy, such as odd-colored contact lenses and a wig, and now I have a variety of ideas for the makeup portion. I'm going to have to pick a day I don't get stuck at work where I am able to go browse around different nearby stores and try things on. I'll try that first since I'm especially picky about things fitting right. I think the chest binding bit might be a bit tricky, but I'll read into some of the provided links for those too. Again, thanks a ton everyone. Advice will be welcome, all the way up until Halloween. There's a whole month yet to figure things out that work and adjust clothing pieces as needed.
  18. I'll take the info about the body paint, but I already purchased a wig I found that looked ideal for what I want! But I'll keep those references handy as they may have use in the future, for whatever costume things come up. Thank you!
  19. I'll take and welcome any advice. I've never cosplayed and as stated in the long opening post, I haven't taken part in Halloween since the age of maybe seven years old, and I'm 24 now. The only motivation to partake and maybe even cosplay someday is having friends to do it with, and it just happens that I've found something my boyfriend and I love equally right in time to do something as a couple and go out with friends. At the moment, I'm pondering where to hunt pieces of the outfit I want that will fit. I'm thinking a white dress shirt with a tie under a purple sweater vest, but as a girl, how should I go about this? I was also thinking dark dress pants. I also welcome advice for chest binding options; I might do that, I'm kind of busty and I'd rather it not be really noticed because otherwise, being average weight with pretty straight hips, I could manage looking fairly androgynous, which is what I'm going for.
  20. I had to check, too, because I just about had three heart attacks simultaneously, especially since in the same night I bought computer upgrades. But thank you for double-checking for me and making note of that!
  21. I went ahead and bought contacts I liked off the site you recommended! Thank you!
  22. Is there a sort of art makeup you can use to draw on things like that and tattoos that will not easily smear or come off without being washed (or using special remover)? Also, I'm good on a wig, just ordered one, so that's out of the way, at least.
  23. I'm directly copying and pasting this from another forum I posted this on, where I've gotten no replies three days later. I get the feeling I'll find more luck with this here, maybe. Thank you in advance for any replies! I haven't done anything for Halloween since I was really little. I've since never gotten excited about Halloween. Over the years, between lack of friends (baww), and being busy, there's never been reason. I was happy to let Halloween pass each year without acknowledging it. This year, a friend turns 21 on Halloween and another good friend is moving away at the end of the year. My few "real life" friends would like to celebrate Halloween in light of both of these things. I'd like to actually enjoy it for once; I don't get out enough, really. I'm sick of having worked through every holiday for the past three years at my job and I'm actually pretty excited about it. In the past week, several friends have "discovered" Welcome to Night Vale, something I'd recommend to anyone. I first had my closest friend texting me random quotes from it, then my boyfriend gushing about it over Skype, followed by another friend online mentioning his girlfriend telling him about it, and finally having a good friend at work ask me about it, saying she had just started listening to it a few days ago. I'm getting the feeling that it's starting to catch on with a lot of people, and that they might recognize things from it. So, my boyfriend and I were talking. He's part Hispanic, and I was joking he should be Carlos for Halloween (at this point, I'm making no sense if you aren't familiar with the podcast, so I'm hoping some people here are and can help me out). And he said that it would be adorable if we were Cecil and Carlos for Halloween (mind you, I'm a girl, so I'd be cross-playing). Well, I have no knowledge of costumes, and I haven't dressed up since I was some Disney character or something at about six years old, so I don't know where to begin, and I have to obviously start buying things really soon. I was browsing DeviantArt for fanart of the series, and as can be seen here, many people have a similar vision of the character Cecil Baldwin. I really like him as he's portrayed as a blond man with purple eyes, with the strange eye on his forehead. I like the idea of a "business casual" sort of outfit with a tie, and/or suspenders, but as a girl, I don't know where I should look for those pieces. Here specifically is someone's cosplay of Cecil that I really like. I'd prefer purple eyes over the pale ones, but I like the outfit idea. I think it's cute. I'd also really like to know where I could find a wig like that; I'm not dying my hair, I just murdered it with dye and bleach fairly recently and its recovering. If people could link me pieces for the costume, I'd deeply appreciate it. Here are the specific things I need "expertise" on: - Where should I look for the outfit pieces? I specifically like a "dressy" shirt as shown in the sample cosplay, along with a tie (which I know I can find ties anywhere), possibly suspenders, would it be easy to find those things for a girl without looking outright "costumey" (I kind of want the outfit on its own to look like I could wear it casually)? - Where should I consider for purchasing a wig? What sites do some of you recommend that you've used? I also like the hair shown in the cosplay linked. - What would I use to draw on that eye on the forehead to ensure it doesn't just wash off on me? I might be going out, walking around, sweating...being very drunk. I'd like my costume to stay semi intact. - Where should I look for the contacts that won't cost me a million and a half dollars? - He's also seen with glasses a lot in drawings, so I'm considering that, too. Suggestions for that? Where would I get glasses as seen in some of the art? Any other suggestions are welcome. I always do things on a budget, but I want to look nice and "polished," as in the linked image example, but I know nothing about costumes. I also don't have any sort of sewing abilities, so none of that. I'd like to believe people will recognize the character, as I see the series gaining recent popularity in time for Halloween, and that's how many artists are portraying the character. What else might complete the costume? I was considering getting a headset to wear around my neck, portraying the studio headset Cecil might be wearing while on air, but I don't know if that would just be pointless. Thanks in advance for any help. I'm pretty excited about this and actually want to commit to doing it.
  24. I no longer need help with this matter! Thank you to anyone who read. I also posted this on another site alongside this and got the replies and help I needed. Hello, everyone. I just finally got, literally last night (with only about an hour tonight of play in because of work) Final Fantasy XIV. It looks lovely, even on low settings, but I do long to be able to enjoy MMOs on higher settings. Plus, windowed at a resolution of 1600x900, with all other settings turned low/off, I can only manage an average of 13 FPS. That's how gaming has always been for me, as I've managed with what computers I could get, most of them barely-breathing hand-me-downs. This computer I have now is the first I've ever owned brand-new. That said, I wanted to get some confirmation from some people confident in their knowledge of computer hardware (specifically for gaming) before I spend a couple hundred dollars on two new parts: a video card and a power supply. Almost a year ago, I linked my exact computer model on a thread elsewhere to see if someone would be able to help me look for parts they promised should work with my computer as it is now. This is my exact computer model: HP Pavilion HPE h8-1214 Desktop PC Yes, I bought a computer as it was from a store and was overcharged for too much RAM, a lot of hard drive space, and a lame power supply and video card. I'm a very impatient person and my laptop had just fried at the time. First, I was told to remove the 2 GB RAM stick from my computer, which I did, after having something called "single-channel memory" explained to me. I was reassured by a few people that I don't need the 10 GB RAM the computer has by default, and that it's better to just have the pair of 4 GB RAM sticks. So, the only thing presently different about my computer not listed on the page linked above is that I removed 2 GB of RAM myself, apparently safely, as the computer is working fine still. Now, onto the parts I would like to buy: Video card: Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 6850 Power supply: CORSAIR Builder Series CX500 500W ATX12V These were recommended to me with promises that they would fit in my computer and that the power supply would be strong enough for the video card. I know so little about computer hardware; at one point, I thought it was a matter of having a nice video card, lots of RAM, and nothing else. I understand only the basics of why a strong power supply is needed, so I'm thankful it was pointed out to me when I first linked my computer for suggestions. I'm on a budget, a tight one. My job does not pay well and I do have loans, but I've budgeted such that I can safely afford the above parts on my next paycheck (in less than a week). I want to be absolutely positive that it will all work. Getting parts that are more expensive is not an option. A new computer is not an option; this computer is fine as it is minus its onboard video card and 300-watt power supply. The point of this thread is to seek confirmation and perhaps open the door to better suggestions. Also, I'm really paranoid about this. I have an older brother with plenty enough extensive knowledge of computer hardware, and he's fully confident he can install any new parts for me without damaging my computer. Still, I want to be positive. I would not have the money for a new computer if something went wrong. My goal is to enjoy Final Fantasy XIV on decent settings (I don't even ask for highest) and to know I'll be safe when Elder Scrolls Online comes around. Thank you in advance for any replies/suggestions. I'm super excited to get some much-needed upgrades, but I don't want to let my impatient nature get the best of me too much!
