Random RP: Sometimes You're Not Being Ignored On Purpose!!
Sil'tel Ferima replied to Tiergan's topic in RP Discussion
I admit that I have a bad habit of barging into small gatherings and potentially wrecking their Serious Business™, but I'm very obliging when someone /tells me immediately that their current situation can't really involve complete strangers in it. I've been in that situation before many times, and it's completely true that sometimes you're simply unable to meet-n-greet when the world, your friends, you family are in mortal danger. My character pretty much considers herself more important than you, be default. So her usual tactic is to find a free chair at a table already occupied by people engaged in discussion, sit herself down without introduction, pour herself a glass of water and sink into a notebook, while all eyes at the table widen at the rudeness. If they point out the table is occupied, she'll respond that she doesn't mind in some throwaway manner, and that the party is free to move. It gets a pleasant mixture of responses, from death-threats to outrage to potential romantic interludes. For a character as antisocial as Sil'tel you do have to go out of your way to involve yourself and make an impression. Hey, at the end of the day, you have to respect that a lot of people, myself included, get the most enjoyment out of feeling part of something larger. And if that means a world-ending catastrophe plot where only a few can solve that problem, so be it. Stories like that can get your blood racing, and unfortunately there's often little time to favor the newcomer. All I'd suggest is that you don't forget to make some allowances in your quieter time to be more open. The last thing you want is to cut yourself off from amazing new RPers because you were far too busy with your own thing. I waffled too much during that. I like waffles.. -
C'kayah, I couldn't nod my head any harder to that statement about the Town Square posts, and I believe there's a valid point to be explored here; I've read through the plethora of posts regarding the whole ERP fiasco, the Miqo'te Slavery thread, etc. and I haven't once commented because I just didn't think it was an issue worth discussing beyond "RP how ya want to, live and let live." but it appears that the more people have discussed it, the bigger the issue it's become. And now the labelling of threads? This, to me, feels very much like a reaction based on a narrow-minded precedence. Let me give you an example: Someone makes a sword, uses it to go out and slay all manner of beasties and nasty things. Everyone knows what the sword is and what it does. It becomes a prolific tool. Now someone uses a sword to slay someone else. Scandal, understandably. The person is vilified and the sword is now feared for it's potential use against another person. Despite the long history of usefulness and versatility the sword has maintained, it's now seen as something potentially dangerous, even though it is merely a tool and the fault lay with the vast minority of people who would exploit it. So now it's required that only registered people may carry swords. Registered people use these swords for killing beasties and nasty things and people are placated because that should technically mean only responsible people should be wielding them. The unregistered miss out and must rely on people who can use a sword rather than utilizing one themselves. A registered person uses a sword to slay someone else. Scandal again, because someone who was supposed to be responsible with a sword has betrayed the trust of the people. The person's fault, but the tool again is vilified and as a result, now it is required that swords be outlawed entirely due to the fact that someone could potentially use it to slay another person. Now no one has access to a sword, but the people who would abuse them are still out there. No fault lay with the tool, but now through narrow thinking everyone who could have benefited from it's use has to go without. I realise it it takes some degree of lateral thinking to equate that analogy to this situation, but the point I'm trying to get across is that this idea of labelling threads has only come around, I suspect, because people have been discussing it far too much and have hyped up what was a small issue into something that needs immediate and extreme response. Why now, not in response to the threads in the Town Square? I may be out of line for suggesting thing, but I heavily suspect it is because of the quality of the content delivered. When something is written out for us in literate fashion, we tend to give it some allowance despite the graphic or shocking depiction of events therein. In this case, with RP, it requires the person observing to appreciate that other people are involved, the story has not been predetermined and cannot be guaranteed as a quality piece of literacy. The proposition of an unknown is always more disturbing than a history of what has already happened. Another small example: "Rohan Balthev's life has been a disturbing path, consisting of frequent raping, torturing, and slavery of young women." or "I'm looking for someone to be a captive young woman to my character, Rohan Balthev. Rape, torture and slavery should be expected." Which brings up the most red flags in your mind? Which seems immediately the most offensive?

I require the services of a blue-haired Miqo'te Seeker, skilled in the pugilistic arts, to escort me to dinner, then to wash my back and massage my shoulders as I relax in the waters of Camp Bronze Lake. Your payment will be the grace of my company.

... Yeeeeaaah... -Intake of breath, awkward gaze.- ... Maybe not the best thing to have ended with.

Wait... "ERP"? Pardon my ignorance, but exactly what is that? Erotic? ...

Characters dreams of evolution though class
Sil'tel Ferima replied to Leomoon's topic in RP Discussion
Part of being great at one thing is having knowledge and experience of things that may be seperate but related. A Gladiator needs to know when a Dragoon can unleash their best attacks, and how efficiently a Conjurer can heal them. It's neither blasphemy or dishonorable to pursue different styles of warfare to enhance your experience with another. And don't forget, supplimentary abilities require first-hand experience to be gained. You can't pull off something a Puglist can do without first learning it as a Pugilist. -
Wow, those are fantastic! Incredible detail on the faces, I'm absolutely impressed! I'm debating throwing my whole wallet at you, but I think I'll take the time to pluck out the heavier coins so it doesn't hurt your face. I have too many expenses this week to justify any frivolous spending, but come next week I may very well consign an order. ^_~

It seems to be fixed up now. Yes, I was an idiot and edited the wrong page. Ugh, it's late. Thank you so much for all your help! I am blessed with people who are both knowledgeable and helpful! Now I actually need to finish filling out the damned thing. ;
-
That was extremely helpful, thank you! Now, onto my next issue. It brings my name up in the list as "User:Sil'tel Ferima", and I'm completely unsure of how to remove the user part. Come to my aid, Super Rinh-chan! ^_~

I've been filling out a Character Wiki Page for a little while now, and I'm trying to figure out how to get my page to appear in the RPC library with all the other names. However, having no previous wiki-editting experience, I'm scared as hell that I'll move a page and completely demolish the whole RPC library or something! My RPC's page is "Sil'tel Ferima", it's searchable, but I'd like the name to appear with all the other names in the RPC library links page. If someone could inform me how to do this without bring an apocalyptic closure to the wiki itself I'd be extremely grateful! Alternatively, if someone wanted to move it there themselves, that would be okay, too. Many thanks in advance for the assistance! ^_~

The Coffer and the Coffin Cheers Night
Sil'tel Ferima replied to faceman7381's topic in Chronicled Events
Sadly, I discover that the event time there is 10:00am for me. This means I will have left for work 30 minutes before the even begins. How disappointing... Have fun in my stead! -
You'll note that was a joke, explained immediately after posting. Thank you, however, for the unwarranted reprimand, it's much appreciated.

Sorry, sorry, I just wanted to say that. Frankly, I don't have an answer for you. I'm really not certain what happened in that battle, nor who was involved, or how, or what they did. I only know as much as the cinematic and cutscenes have revealed to me. It's my understanding that only a handful of those people in the cinematic were actually saved via magic at the very end. However, since all three major leaders survived, one can assume that even though chances are slim, there could indeed have been survivors, perhaps even on the front line, although I believe with the destruction depicted, they would have to have tried to retreat long before Bahamut started the real fireworks. If I recall, they decided to pull their troops back before any more bloodshed occurred, and even though the requests were not responded to, it's not unfeasible that whoever was down there did not act. As for the memory? I really couldn't answer that one, sorry.

No. Now stop being silly.

The Coffer and the Coffin Cheers Night
Sil'tel Ferima replied to faceman7381's topic in Chronicled Events
I'll attempt to have Sil'tel stop by, though realistically I may be in the middle of a lecture at that time, and studies come first. I'll try, anyway... Unless you're gonna be a creepy stalker again!! ^_~ -
Interesting thoughts in this thread. While I don't have an answer for any of your questions, it raises some issues I should be looking into. My character is blind from a retinal detachment in her right eye, but has perfect vision in the left, so aside from less-than-stellar binocular acuity she doesn't suffer badly, and she's been that way since childhood. I don't believe a system of sonar to be feasible within the realm of battle, since movements are often too quick to rely on an intermittent sound to determine location, let alone being able to hear a sound return through the intense noise of battle. However, I am in your school of logic that in the Aether, you should be able to have visions. Even the life-long blind have been known to describe colours, patterns and visions in their minds. Do recall that the human body (and by loose association, the races of Hydaelyn) has more than 5 major senses. All in all, it's been agreed that there are at least 25+ measurable and reliable senses, geomagnetism, thermal sensing, nervous proximity location, etc. And taking a page from The Last Airbender, even completely kinetic and tangible senses such as vibration in the ground and changes in air pressure are feasible, too. Using Aether to "see" is feasible as far as I'm aware. With my limited knowledge of how aether works I could imagine such a system providing a reliable "sight". After all, Thancred and the other Scions have masks to see Aetherial flow, and aether exists in all things, correct? I say go for it, unless someone can put a hard counter to that argument.

The Coffer and the Coffin Cheers Night
Sil'tel Ferima replied to faceman7381's topic in Chronicled Events
It was a fun idea. I met several interesting people, which is great for an RPer only connected to the RP scene through happenstance and the Interlude LS. My only concerns were the constant FATEs that occurred there, but it was still a popular event and I'd like very much to see more of them happen. I didn't stay for too long, but that's customary for a character of the disposition mine posesses. Interesting people were seen, though, and being approached is always fun because it gives you the opportunity to really flesh out a character. Thanks to the organisers and to all who attended! -
Regarding the accents I've encountered in Thanalan and the greater Ul'dah areas, I have observed a lot of them, and the one trait they all seem to share is a sense of false regality. With the one exception of Thancred, I can't help but read all the lines in the voice of a people who like to put on the mask of prosperity and nobility, while taking great pains to cover up a more rural way of speaking. This is perhaps a mirror to their society. A prosperous nation built on the backs of the miners and gatherers and honest, hard-working labourers of the land. They may be experiencing a time of plenty, and have a palace and aristocracy of great acclaim, but their lineage is rough-natured and down with the people who raised the riches from the dirt to begin with. Momodi is a great example of your street-talking Lalafel. I get a very strong modern-day english flavour. Lazy with her speech, but spritely and chipper like a fast-tongued brooding mother. But it has been mentioned that many of the NPCs around Ul'dah could provide a more Irish appeal, and I will in no way contest this. I can't pull any names out of my head, but there were several characters whose accents had unmistakable Irish traits. I've yet to see any overtly Scottish accents, but it would not suprise me to know that some were written in to smaller variances. My gut instinct is to treat Ul'dah as though it was the British Isles. To this effect, my own character, being from Ul'dah herself, has a pronounced faux-aristocratic accent which is easily lost to more urban traits when riled or brought out of her comfort zone.

However brief it was, I enjoyed our exchange today, Konner. It's never easy introducing yourself to someone else, so I very much appreciate the fact you did. Also, you popped my RP-cherry on FFXIV:ARR. Now take responsibility. You're just saying that because I am awesome... Also, don't touch me. ... What did I do there? o_o Thanks, Elisan. Jars of Clay struck a chord with me for having exceptional music and lyrics and not having the pitfall of being too "worship" to listen to. 'The Long Fall Back to Earth' and 'Good Monsters' are absolutely epic albums. Hahaha, classic stuff. In Sil'tel's P.O., you're the worm inside the dirt. Maybe lower. Depends how much she likes you... BYYYEEE!! O_O

Appreciate the welcome. ^_~ Right now I'm just refamiliarizing myself with a game that's changed quite drastically since I played it last (For the absolute better, mind). But when and if I see anyone who looks like they need a good verbal bitch-slapping, I'll be sure not to disappoint.

Well, let's be clear about this; Even if some of you might not look like losers, you probably are because you've never met me, and if I don't know your name you can hardly call yourself someone memorable now, can you? Oh, don't get your whiskers in a tangle, no one likes a sulker. My name is Sil'tel Ferima, and if I decide to lower my standards enough to find out yours, it'll be a cold day in Hades. Because I'm the single most amazing thing to ever come to Eorzea. I'm not bragging, I'm just letting you know the pecking order. I'll give you a hint: You're not at the top. That comfortable bed? It's mine. The tastiest morsels on the banquet table? Mine. Your cute "boyfriend"? You see what I'm getting at. I get the best things, because I'm worth everything and more. You can have what's left over, the stuff I don't want or can't carry. I enjoy basking in the sun, as many Miqo'te do, and I'm partial to a drink now and then. I'm an only-child, if you couldn't tell. Parents figured they couldn't do any better, so why bother trying? They up and died recently, that's another tale. -Waves it off.- Look, I'm not malevolent, I'm not calling you out as serfs and stepping stones, (though I should), I'm just saying that even this early in my newly-forged Adventuring career I'm pretty much gonna dominate whatever rabble of party members you can come up with. You get what I want done, then maybe I'll have a shred of care what YOU want done. I'm nothing if not fair, after all. And if you actually manage to establish something of a connection with me you can consider yourself a rich person. Not actually rich, because I'd rather have that, but rich in spirit or personality or something else tragically hopeless people like to harp on about. You look like the type to believe in that stuff. Summing this up, since I can feel the backs around here stiffening already, let's work together and foster peace and prosperity yada yada yada, to get me expensive palaces and powerful weapons. Deal? Whatevs. Incidentally, you're on MY cushion, so... Thanks for humouring the intro, here's my details. ^_~ --MMORPG Background I cut my teeth on Final Fantasy XI and still play it to this day. I've also dabbled in WoW, a little Guildwars, some Scarlet Blade recently, and I spent a few months playing Final Fantasy XIV 1.0. --Roleplaying Experience I was part of a very developed RP Linkshell in FFXI for several years, but aside from a few years of casual collaborative writing on forums and the occasional light-hearted social-site Roleplay, I don't have an extensive repertoir of experience. --Character Idea/Info The intro should spell out a great deal of Sil'tel's personality. She's a self-absorbed Miqo'te who views the world in degrees of how much she can personally benefit from it. Through a complex upbringing she's developed a sense that she's somehow better than everyone else, and that other people are merely ladders to her own goals. When she deigns to help others, it's not out of compassion, she'll lord it over the person she helps and consider it a great debt to be paid back. She's a spoiled girl with a vastly disconnected sense of entitlement. --How did you learn about the Coalition Google. o_o --What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? Assuming those classifications mean what I think they do, I'd be aiming for a "heavy" RP setting, though I'm not opposed at all to dropping character from time to time to just have fun with a Linkshell. It is a game, after all. --Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc) I'm an Optical Advisor from Christchurch, New Zealand. I have a B.A. in English and Linguistics. I adore creative writing, being given unbridled setting and scope to work with, but I often find that some of my more cherished memories come from collaborative works, like roleplay and turn-based novella. I'm a big fan of any music I can't hear on a radio station, particularly Vivaldi, Chicane, and Jars of Clay. I'm not really a collector of any sort, but I do seem to amass movie and game soundtracks. I'm not sure why. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this, and I apologise to anyone who assumed I was being honestly insulting to the community here. ^_~
