[Moved Due To Lack Of Space For Important Info]
K'dath replied to ketididnot's topic in Artisan House
Thank you. <3 Here's K'dath. I decided to just do a sketch for this. This will probably be how the free sketches will look after I open commissions. I am so damn cute... Perfect. -
"One-dimensionality exists only in theory as a mathematical value." Sorry, couldn't resist. I completely agree with what you're saying though. Warhammer, for the great influence it's had on our expectations of world building in sci-fi/fantasy, is a crap sack world where there is no reason to hope for anything and nothing ever does get better. People's perception of what is 'normal' has been skewed by the glorification of over the top anti-heroes, where the grit is piled on so thick you could use them as sandbags. It's just as unrealistic as the fantastic world where the good guys are always right, just, and win in the face of overwhelming odds. Morality is subjective. Realism... not so much.

Woah woah woah woah woah woah woah... woah... ... woah. There are "gritty" Belfs? Aaaaaaand that's exactly what we're talking about here.

You're so negative! Coming from a Warcraft background I know exactly what you're talking about though. My friends and I would walk around Silvermoon reading the hilariously bad ones, and take a drink every time one launched into some overly descriptive exposition about how pretty they were. This often resulted in blacking out before 1am. But, it's much better to roll your eyes and laugh it off than be upset about it. You can't change people's RP style. Eh. I don't fault people for wanting to have beautiful/hot/gorgeous/attractive RP characters. I mean, that's the whole point of RP, yeah? To pick a character you like the idea of being and.. well. Be them? Play them out? Whatever. Some of them do make me chuckle, of course, but hey. To each their own. Naturally. It's all escapism. There's just a point where you draw the line and say 'this is too much'. Playing something attractive is fine. Telling me that 'what you behold is the most beautiful, flaxen haired maiden ever to have blessed your vision' is too much. I'd never tell anyone they couldn't write that way if they wanted! But I don't think I'm wrong in saying it's in bad taste to impose your attractiveness on others though.

Now there's some motivation! Haha! Chi-Ji says: I challenge you not to think of hope as a vague and unimaginable future. Live EVERY day with hope in your heart. In doing so, you CREATE the future you dream of. This. This is how I 'Good' Alignment.

Morality is more fun when it's gray. It makes 'good' subjective and people can play characters that are 'right' without being bogged down by morals. Often villains get the lion's share of character development, because they do bad things for a reason. They are justified, in their own way, and the awful machinations of their motives are explained. While with the good guys, they are just... good, and they have no reason other than they are good. Saving the world is excellent motivation, but why do you want to save the world? What has it done for you? What does it mean to you? Even when everything is gray and there is not definitive right and wrong, I think it's still important to have characters like the stalwart, faithful Paladin who does only good things. It gives the morality of the world context, that someone is selfless and will save the day. It's just a character that is a little time worn. People have seen it before, and in an attempt to give their own spin on it, have spun off course. They take the neat bits and pieces of characterization that come from the other side of the spectrum. That's why the grizzled mercenary, the ambivalent anti-hero, and the well intentioned extremist are more popular than straight good/evil diametric anymore. If it's what you like, rock on. Because there needs to be that presence in the world. There needs to be hope. If everyone thinks the world is a crap sack, then nothing will ever get better.

One of my totally awesome friends tossed me a collector's edition upgrade, since he knew I was borderline insane about mount collecting. The Coeurl is so pretty....

Rhuarc is also a male Roegadyn! Big, manly, paladin tank, don't see why its not the most prominent race. Most likely because they look ridiculous - their proportions are very off and typically the 'big' races tend to be designed to appeal to the sort of player that enjoys overcompensating. It was the same with orcs and tauren in WoW - very few people played them and yet many of those that did seemed to think that 'dey da best lol so much biger an strong den every1 else lol xDDDD'. Masculinity is also not linked directly to size, especially when excessive proportions are concerned. I disagree. In my personal opinion the Roe don't look ridiculous for what they are. I don't think the Tauren necessarily appeal to that kind of stereotype either with the way they're characterized. That however may be my own bias shining through, since I was drawn to them for their racial culture... I don't think it's about over compensating. I think big, strong designs are a natural and necessary compliment to all the spindly, feminine males. It'd be rather annoying if all the men in the game could be mistaken for women at a passing glance. And I have on at least one occasion been confused while running past every other race and had to take a double take to make sure it was indeed, a man. They are more like the Orsimer of Elder Scrolls than Warcraft Orcs. They have a proud warrior culture and are physically conditioned for the harshness of the lands in which they dwell and the adversities they have to face. They've evolved and developed a certain way out of necessity. It doesn't mean they're all hulking barbarians that'll rip the head of an Amalj'aa. Many prominent Roegadyn NPCs fly in the face of the uber masculine stereotype as well. They're healers, merchants, tailors, and chefs just as often as they are warriors and brigands.

Red looks a little more rustic. Blue is sharper, makes it pop more. Purple's a bit of both. I generally like blue for lines, but they all look nice. -
The NPCs in the game itself are rarely consistent with the given descriptions. Many of the prevalent Keepers go against the whole 'Keepers are furry Drow' look. And I've seen very few NPC Seekers with a healthy looking tan compared to the fair skinned. I honestly wouldn't fret over it too much. Siblings of different colorings are common enough with real cats, some take after neither parent at all. I can't see any reason why you can't have two different colored Miqo'te be siblings. That said, Keeper families are not suppose to have many male children. But, if the suffix exists, and you prefer the look of it, I don't see a reason not to keep it. Just make sure your friend knows that it's a rather uncommon thing and write around it accordingly.

Miqo'te girls have been learning their sexy from Roe women the whole time. It makes so much sense! (seriously, I just stumbled across this and it made me think of this thread, haha)

Do you just mean like, how types work? Because here's a handy little chart. Of course there are also dual-type Pokemon, so weaknesses and resistances are reduces or doubled based on those. A Pokemon that is Water/Ground will take 4x as much damage from a grass type, instead of 2x. The same pokemon will be totally immune to electric attacks instead of weak against them because of the Ground typing. Attacks have types as well, not just Pokemon. A Water-type Pokemon can use the Normal-type Headbutt or Ice-type Ice Beam. You do however get a Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB) if your Pokemon's type is the same as its move. Attacks are also modified by stats based on a division of 'Physical' or 'Special'. Physical corresponds to Defense while Special Attack corresponds to Special Defense. Most Pokemon are going to fit into one of four categories; Physical Attacker, Special Attacker, Physical Wall, or Special Wall. There's also some that are good at either, and are usually referred to as 'mixed sweepers'. That's really getting into more competitive jargon though. There's also EVs, IVs, Natures, and Abilities that make each individual Pokemon unique. Essentially, if you catch two identical Pokemon, the same level, in the same place, they'll have different stats, and a different maximum cap of what those stats can be. For such a simple game, it's actually a rather complex math game under it all. Really, the best way to play is just to find the ones you like best and play to their strengths. This guy is one of my favorite Pokemon ever, and he has an amazing Special Attack stat. But he's slow, his typing isn't very strong, and his movepool isn't vast. I use him anyway because I like him. And also because one-shotting a DD Gyarados is funny as hell.

No. Hardcore is doing Botany while prancing around Odin. The bodies upon bodies piling up, the massive AoE storms for fire and frost, as you skip around picking flowers in your sun hat. It's pretty intense.

And that's why the 'Pokemon designs are getting worse' argument is dumb. There were always inanimate objects, or non-objects in muk's case. Some are good, some are bad, as it has always been. I admit I hated the dorky looking Ice Cream Pokemon too, until I got stuck with it. After playing with him for a while he grew on me. Even 'bad' designs have their own charm.

Uhg, I'm all for this. Considering I wake up at midnight central time most nights.
-
That's not a bad spread though. I'm just sad when people who haven't played since, say, Red and Blue, just go on and on about how awful the new Pokemon are and only the original 150 are good. I'm not really upset. More like... dejected. Because I hate the fact there are elitists in Pokemon of all things.
-
Yeah... there's a lot. And not all of them are great. There's a few real gems... Zoroark will rip you a new orifice. Through your stomach. With a hyper beam.

As much as I do love hugs and tearing things apart, he just feels like 'Lugia but red and pointier'. I was really disappointed by this guy. Edit: Come at me bro Somewhere over 700 in X and Y.

X Version here. Look at this beautiful stallion buck! He's like the Lady Gaga of Pokemon with his crazy disco-rainbow head and I love it. I'm with Aleister mostly, I wanted to totally new experience, since this is going to be like a totally new game with all the new features and changes. I thoooought about sneaking a peak at the starter type's end evolutions or some of the version exclusives, but I didn't care when I was a kid. I'll deal with it now~

Should gamers be accountable for in-game war crimes?
K'dath replied to Mongoose's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Funny, how I read it was someone from the Red Cross saying "I think realistic military simulators should include realistic military consequences for realistic military crimes." It doesn't sound like they mean to court martial people playing Halo in real life. Just that Call of Duty-esque games, which are realistic representations of modern conflicts should address the fact their are consequences for your actions. Something that I think more of the youth playing CoD need. I don't think it's a bad idea from my completely subjective moral standpoint. I also think more realism is always good in games. It adds immersion. If I knew I'd get a dishonorable discharge for murdering civilians, I would make extra sure not to do it, instead of callously blowing away everything in front of me. It involves using at least one more brain cell, and that's always a good thing. Doesn't seem like an outrageous demand to me. Just a 'Hey, you know what would be nice? This...' -
You should look on the main X/Y site just because there are some pokemon that have/will be announced as a nintendo zone only obtainable and you don't wanna miss that when the event starts just because those pokemon might not be in the game. Yeah, I know that there is a Torchic with the new evolution stone being given away. Which I am excited for! Because I missed the Speed Boost Blaziken download, and because Blaziken is a beast.

All of these things. All of them. I didn't have the best sense of the community when coming to FFXIV. My decision on what to roll was based totally on my traditional default choice of beast races. Since in XIV beastmen are the bad guys, and I'll likely never get to play an Ixial Musketeer as much as I think that would be the greatest thing to ever happen, the closest I could get to beast folk was... cat people. It was the same logic I applied in picking my Tauren or Argonian characters on other games. Neither of aforementioned races are particularly pretty, but you can bet people still assume its some sort of fetish. And I'm also distressed by the atmosphere of exceedingly negative gay stereotypes that just pour forth from role players. It's annoying to me on a personal level, but I've come to expect it at this point. It's not my place to tell you 'how to be gay'. The problem is that it sets an unpleasant standard where that sort of behavior is not just acceptable but the expected default for any homosexual character. Then people avoid you, because they don't want to deal with 'faggy' RPers. It's frustrating to me, because I'm not role playing gay. I just am, it's not a trait that has been specifically woven into the character's personality. I don't think about it, I don't sit down and decide 'oh, and he's also a raging homo' when writing down my notes. It's just a thing about them, it doesn't define them. And if your character is completely defined by their sex or sexuality, you might want to reassess your priorities.
