  1. Caelia's not very bulletproof. I've had her get seriously injured in a Grindstone tournament before by having her leg shattered (Yay for healers!). Her "bulletproofness" rating is based solely on her ability to dodge, so I have it where if she takes a hit, then she takes a hit. That being said, her endurance is such that she can take a few (probably about four or five moderate smacks or one super hard/well-aimed hit) before she gets completely knocked out. I try to play her as realistic to her lifestyle as possible. Considering that she's been trained to fight, but isn't an actual fighter, I can't imagine that she's difficult to take down.
  2. This is my character, Caelia Isularie. She is in her mid-twenties and she's married with one child (a six month old boy). Beyond being married and having an infant, she also is a playwright, a poet, a musician, and also had several professions before her current artistic streak that gave her a wide skill set. Caelia was born in Southern Thanalan in a small desert town that is now obsolete because the Calamity happened. She lived there with her mother, father, and their dog, Sultana. After the Calamity happened and they were forced to flee, her mother perished along with the dog. Her father had been at the Battle of Carteneau and so, to Caelia's knowledge, is almost certainly dead. She found her way to Ul'dah and worked in the seedier elements until she was twenty two years old. From there, she managed to redeem herself and worked within the Immortal Flames for two years before being discharged honorably. From there, she went into being her playwright, poetess self and met her husband and had her child. Caelia pretty much needs everything and I'm pretty flexible with plots. We could plot that they knew each other before she became respectable or after or have them meet just now. Send me a PM or catch me in game on either Caelia Isularie or on my alt, Melisande Beauharnais.

This might be in bad form, but I'm going to apply forum RP rules to MMO RP rules and see what happens. I'm new to MMO RP so if these are the same, my apologies for being redundant. In every forum RP I've ever come across, there are two big rules that NO ONE should ever break and those are: powerplay (using OOC knowledge ICly without establishing how your character got that information) and godmodding. Godmodding means doing anything at all to a character (a guaranteed successful action) without A) leaving them a way to get out of it or B) checking with them first. Doing part A means that your character can attempt to punch the other character. It is the other character's choice as to whether it connects and hurts them or not. Doing part B means the above has been choreographed and the parties involved know what's coming and have compromised to make it work the best for both. Part A does not need OOC communication because the subtext of the action is, "Can my character do this?". By dodging or accepting the punch, the other player is adding the subtext of, "No" or "Yes." I'm assuming this rule is a general rule for all RPing. That being said, I think it's really poor manners not to at least ask OOCly if a walk in is possible/acceptable in this situation. There are some scenes I've seen/read where it seems like it would be in really bad form to just walk up and start doing things with the players (notice I said with, not to). Not just because it would derail things but because it's clear that whatever I do would fail to help the people accomplish their goals or would make their entire scene be about me instead of them. I've never yet had a person jump into an RP scene I'm part of without asking first and checking with me in a tell. Usually, I say, "Yes, jump in! Jump in!" or I'll say, "Yes, I would love to have you join. Let me just get this conversation to a point where you can slide in easily without derailing anything and we'll play!" It sounds like this person did neither of those things and seemed to disregard the idea of "Am I adding myself to this scene for flavor or am I making this scene all about me?" ...I got lost in what I was trying to say but the point is, I think this person was a bit out of line and needs to learn when too much is too far in a walk-up rp.
  4. I'll chime in as the (so far) only non-miqo'te female in this group: I'm happy to have joined this group and excited I get to do something morally grey in Eorzea. Everyone is very nice and welcoming so far and they've been great fun to rp with.
  5. I wasn't thinking of any celebrities when I made Cae. And then I stumbled across Jessica de Gouw and thought if I had to choose an RL person to represent Cae in anything, it'd be this lady.
  6. Caelia will hold you. Well, kind of. If it's in a headlock and she gets to mockingly hit on you. So far, Cae's joined a theatre troupe (yay), fallen in love with a long time friend who will not ever love her back (the drama from this storyline is going to be sublime), kissed a certain C'kayah in the street to see if she could embarrass or scare him (didn't work so now they're kind of friends), and is cursed, along with a whole group of people, with nightmares that affect their waking life (injuries cause injuries in waking life, death causes actual death) which we do via IC dungeon runs as the "dreams". She fought in Grindstone and got her shoulder broken from Xenedra. And she's still going around collecting people's stories about their life pre and post Calamity to make a monologue play about it. That's all the stuff she'd done since I started playing her. Her past is a whole different llama.
  7. If you need RP connections, feel free to send me a tell! Look for Caelia Isularie. As long as you can't see Cae's weapons, I'm RPing her at the moment. I'm always down for RP.
  8. I'm so glad someone brought up this topic on the forums because Caelia is an aspiring playwright (I've already started jotting down play ideas and started drawing up a script for a piece) and I would love to get her involved in the theatre community. I have a lot of plans for her to start writing her plays and where to take inspiration from. One of my ideas was to have her do interviews (memories, recollections, what have you) with people and write down their stories. Eventually people's memories/feelings/experiences about a world pre- and post-Calamity world would be developed into a play much like "Fires in the Mirror" by Anna Deavere Smith which is composed of monologues from various view points on both sides of the event (we could even get some Garlean opinions on the Calamity), as well as eyewitness accounts of it happening and the ripple effects it caused in the world/community. The problem is that I need people to volunteer to meet Caelia and give her their testimony (I hate using that world so much, but that's the best way to describe it). Another problem is some people might feel like their characters would refuse to open up to someone taking down their story even if it's to help or benefit others (in this case, Caelia would want it any funds from ticket sales to go towards helping orphanages and orphans from the Calamity). There are some other ideas including some more family friendly plays that I'm coming up with but we'll see. I don't know if you have room for Caelia in your group, but if you do, consider her signed!
  9. So, to take this thread really far back (several pages ago, in a galaxy far, far away): I think it could be said that the Syndicate COULD be hereditary and there is a historical basis for this on Earth. In the 1300's the Medicis rose to power in Florence (Italy) based solely on their capacity as bankers and the vast amounts of wealth they had. Since Florence was a Republic City State (although this would fluctuate wildly during the Renaissance, arguably because of this one family's power and influence), this family rose to join the ranks of other very prominent, wealthy families and essentially came to control the city while keeping it under the guise of a Republic. One would argue that they were not nobility since they were bankers and descended from peasants. Likewise, you could say that they weren't nobility because Florence was not a kingdom or run by a ruler, per se. However, the fact stands that they were considered nobility and allowed to marry into foreign royal houses (they provided France with two queens, both of which made a profound impact of the country itself) and even managed to get some of their relatives into the Papal seat. Eventually, they were given Florence as a dukedom. They managed this through patronizing various artists (propaganda), bribery, putting family members in prime positions politically, and ruthlessly eliminating the competition (Pazzi Conspiracy.) Their greatest leader was arguably Lorenzo "il Magnifico" de Medici who was the patron of Michelangelo, Leonardo di Vinci, Botticelli, etc. Despite having been out of power for centuries, the Medici stamp can still be seen all over Florence in terms of their coat of arms marking buildings they built or owned. So, how this affects Ul'dah: Because wealth is inherited (we assume since I don't think there's a thing talking about inheritance laws in Ul'dah) and it's wealth that allows someone to buy into the Syndicate, it's possible that a Syndicate position could be hereditary on the inside while outwardly presenting a facade of "if you had enough wealth/power/prestige, you could be here too." If a man owns a business that has made him a ton of wealth, is he going to just let his employee take over it? Or will he let his son/daughter? At the end of the day, his employee could destroy everything he worked towards as well as harm his family by forcing them out of benefits associated with the business. However, his son/daughter can't hurt his/her family without hurting themselves. It's a safer bet to keep wealth in the family than giving the source of your wealth and power to a treasured employee. TL;DR: Ul'dah is a lot like Florence in terms of a city state. If there is no nobility, the Syndicate is like nobillity. Look up Medici family in Florence and see the similarities between Florence's Republic and Ul'dah's Syndicate.
  10. Definitely named my Chocobo Nugget. And one day, I'll get his brothers Ketchup and Honey Mustard. They'll be magnificent together.
  11. This might show how much of a nerd I am but whenever I get into a queue as a DPS, I go and craft, do leves, and listen to podcasts while I work. Usually it's stuff like "Stuff Mom Never Told You" or "Things You Missed in History Class". It keeps my mind occupied. I've also been known to read a book in queue.
  12. I'm so excited about housing since I've never played an MMO that had it! (Or at least, I should say I played them but never actually got to have one). I'm trying to craft and sell as many things as possible on the market so I can afford one when it comes out.
  13. Hi, everyone! I'm Caelia on Balmung and this is the first FF MMORPG I've ever done and so it'll be my first time RPing with many of you! I've done mostly forum RPs for about ten years and I've owned my own RP site for over five years. I'm going to start on Caelia Isularie's wiki soon but feel free to already pester me with RP ideas or suggestions on where to start. I've already joined the Intermission 2 linkshell and I'll start to look for an RP FC soon.
