I've never been great at introduction posts- even less so returning introduction posts. But, given that it's been since the end of 2014 that I last showed my face 'round these parts, I figure I oughta. Hey, all! I'm AvaZope. While I'd like to say that Shadowbringers alone is what finally convinced me to give FF14 a shot again, I'd got to admit part of it's due to the situation over at WoW with BfA's story. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all about what Shadowbringers is putting down- from the MSQ to the PvE content. The only thing I've left to do is dip my toes into the RP community again. Which brings me back here! I've been RPing across MMOs, tabletop RPGs, fourms- you name it- for around 13 years now. I played FF14 1.0 and 2.0, twaddlin' off during the middle of the Crystal Tower attunement process. I've picked FF14 up again here and there, but never long enough to consider RPing in the game again. My main game for awhile now has been WoW. I currently run a RP guild there, which is going on 4 years old now, though we're on hiatus since none of us are able to get into BfA's story. I haven't quite finished figuring out what I want to do with my main, Ava Anders, who's gotten a pretty severe rehaul since her original incarnation back on Balmung. I'm now on Mateus, since some of my friends started up after Balmung locked and so I followed them here. I've got some ideas, mind you, but nothing concrete. I'll probably be pestering ya'll for input once I've got somethin' solid to make sure it's up to snuff with the current RP community expectations. And then, maybe, eventually, once my toes have been thoroughly soaked I'll be reaching out here to get some community stuff rolling. Maybe. We'll see. Either way, it's nice to meet you all and it's good to be back!

I also know if you're like me an have the Pokemon "gotta max 'em all!" mentality towards classes/souls, you may want to skip some parts of zones. Especially zones where the quests are 15+. Getting a class to level 15 is easy. Just do the hunting log, fates you run along into, and some level 10 levequests. However after 15, the leveling process can really slow down, so I skip whole hubs and grind on some classes so when I go back to level another, I have different options to level that class.

The most common times to get in are between 12PM-6AM. However, I've remade and made characters both recently and around launch at what are commonly known as 'lockdown times'. My main, Ava, for instance, I remember making on either a Mon-Wed around 2PM in the afternoon. However, I stress to people who are maybe trying to make the character and then giving up and trying again the next day- Try around 12PM-6AM. Don't give up. If you must, get to the screen where you choose the server and tab out. Watch a movie, read articles, whatever. And refresh the list every 3 minutes or so to see if it updates. Some people claim the servers go out of lockdown only on the times listed on the website. I strongly believe this is a false notion. I think they simply update the list at those times, but the server fluctuates. My reasoning for this is while making a farming alt last week, I sat staring at the screen from about 9PM (7PDT) until 3AM. (1AM PDT) and the server opened for about 30 mins. I made that character and one more, and then on the third it was locked again.

Hey. So. I have returned and stuff. Ava has received a rehaul, which is on her updated wiki! Hope to see ya'll in-game!

No, no, I wasn't saying the math was wrong. Just making a silly that regardless of it's correctness, I have trouble understanding it unless it's presented at a third grade level. (Not really...but...almost really.) I get your summary though. Thanks for the work, really, I certainly couldn't have reasoned that out, lol.

Oh so if we...and...the...birds..moved...in...space...wait...

I love the discussion going! So what ya'll seem to be concluding about the distance is that what's provided in-game can't make much sense. Would ya'll find it reasonable to agree that someone traveling from say... Limsa to Ul'dah, making frequent stops and such took a few weeks?

Thanks for all the answers, guys!

Now that I've been playing the game for a good month and seen more of the lore and how classes work, I've decided to scrap a large majority of Ava's background and such. In the process of rebuilding and coming up with new ideas, I've found myself unable to answer a few questions on my own. Not all of these are related, mind you. First, how many of you guys play WoL? Also, how would you guys (the community, not just WoL players) feel about someone roleplaying a WoL even if they didn't technically play 1.0? Second, where the heck is Cartneau? Also, which of the 3 main cities is farthest away from it/closest to it/took the most or least damage? Third, how long does the community as a whole feel it would take to get from a major hub city to another without special means of transportation. Lets say the only method they had was one chocobo. Fourth, how expensive do you think a chocobo would be? Would it be akin to buying a car in our world? Or would it be plausible that a breeder may give a deal to someone based on a variety of reasons? And are there any naming conventions for chocobos? Fifth, because we can (in-game) be any class or wear any armor, how do you guys feel about a character's fighting style being a mix of classes? For instance, a paladin who also has skills with a lance, or a puglist/monk who can use basic healing magics, ect, ect? That..seems to be all I have (for now). Sorry it's a fair bit and may be asked in a confusing manner. If needed I can re clarify. Thanks for any help!

Yeah, I checked bags, special items for quests, currency...nothing. But we'll see if dodo boy makes any difference. I'm just not lucky today, I suppose. Cut my hand in the shop, burned my same hand hanging lights, got in a fender bender, and now no parcels. Thor is mad at me, clearly.

Yeah, I've done everything I should up until the actual fate part. The last one she actually appeared and talked AND I was in a group AND still nothing. I did have a game crash on 3 out of the 4 times I've attempted it, so that may be it. I always crash at the end. I went from the crabs to the dodo boss, maybe changing the fate will help.

Is it possible to get gold and not get anything? because that's happened twice for me. The music changes, the font is different and silver, and I got gold credit both times but no parcels.

AWESOME. WOO. Thanks!

Thanks for the guide! Quick question though: I probably won't be 46+ by the time the event ends, for a few reasons. Can I still get the weapons, though? (Mainly the gun blade...)

Well said. Much better than how I was trying to word it in my head. I remember when I first started RPing in WoW and I joined a small guild and hardly anyone went with a typical or race appropriate name. Like, trolls with human names and tauren rocking that night elf druid NPC name. And their IC reasons were almost all "nickname" or "adopted". I actually got removed because they were petty and got upset that my character kept making jokes about how everyone but her and a few other people didn't have an Alliance-y nickname and real parents.

Another WoW/MGer! Heya!

How does the community treat the day/night cycles?
AvaZope replied to Flickering Ember's topic in RP Discussion
Something like that, yeah, lol. Still, the information was interesting to read, and made the whole time conversion grammar thing a little easier to understand. -
How does the community treat the day/night cycles?

On topic-ish, while researching this a little, I found some interesting stuff out. If we were to take each day/night cycle as the actual cycle ICly, we'd be RPing a year's worth of days every 18-ish days. It's safe for me to assume no one here really goes by that? http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Time -

I haven't RP'd too much yet, but I was thinking about this as I was leveling the other day. I was of the mind to stick to the timeframe I'm actually in, or the server time, like most of the games I've been used to RPing in. It wouldn't seem difficult to regard the random darkness of "night" at 2PM in the afternoon being a sudden dark cloud pre-storm. And it does rain a -lot- so that actually doesn't sound too hard to imagine. -
Free company leaders meeting (pol to have one or not)
AvaZope replied to Vashies Rosada's topic in Chronicled Events
I think this is a fabulous idea. Guilds/FC's/ECT are typically some of the best ways to find plots, story-arcs, and stable RP for a single character. It's only natural that some of the best server wide, multi-character, multi-guild/FC/ect events and story-arcs happen when multiple guilds/FCs help create it. Right before I left WoW (MG), the guild I was in would host large RP-PVP battles with the other faction. Sometimes they were between just one enemy guild, but on some occasions there were at least 4 different guilds per faction. Thats 8 large guilds PLUS smaller guilds who tagged along or even random people because the events were set out on the server forums. We had coalitions, trainings, victory parties, loss mournings, ect. And that's just between military guilds. @Edit And then I notice this is for Gilgamesh. BUT W.E, STILL A GOOD IDEA. YA'LL DO SOME COMMUNITY BUILDIN'. -
Well, 8PM PST (The time squee uses) is 10PM my time. (I'm central US, Texas.) However that is a good point, since most people won't want to feel rushed in fear of being cut off. Perhaps if we (and pardon using my timezone for this, bad a math), start it at say...6-ish, that will give it a good 3-4 hours to run/people mingle/ect. Essentially- I wouldn't start it less than 4 hours before the maintenance time. So if that hits at 9 server time, the event should start at at least 5. Another idea, though less standard- Since it's a large event, we could just have it be ic knowledge to hub around that area. People can come and go, mourn and honor people throughout the entire day to avoid the time issue.

I'd also show up to an event like this. My time is pretty free but the most open time (in my experience RPing) seems to generally be in evenings, though I'm not sure with the EU RPers, as this is my first server not being full NA. I also agree with it being at the temple of the 12. (Or whatever it's called, never been there, but it sounds like a place people would host an event like this.)

Good lord Thor above do I know what you mean. This is probably one of the only responses I've written that isn't overly fluffy. But yeah, I played a very dark, broody, uninterested in anything character for about two years on WoW. My emotes varied between long and short, detailed and simple, depending on how I felt, what time it was, or what/who I was RPing with. It really is up to how you feel comfortable with. You can be like an old friend of mine who posted 3 posts worth per emote, or just post one or two lines. Either way can get the message across once you get the hang of it.
-
Broody/introverted/ect doesn't mean short and simple descriptions to their less than extravagant actions or behavior, imo. For instance: Ava laughs loudly, slapping her thigh. Is short and simple, but it's a fairly outgoing and...action...ful...emote. If I wanted to go into detail, I could have mentioned that her eyes closed and her head tilted back, or that she also leaned forward and back once or twice in the process of her boisterous laughter. Sure, that'd be a longer description with more words, but the action in my head looks the same. She isn't doing more actions or the like in the longer description of the action the description is just....longer. Similar to broody: Ava exhales slowly through her nose, her head tilting downward to her left, eyes shifting to view the feet of the person next to her. Is longer than, Ava sighs, looking away. But the -action- is the same. She isn't less broody because I went into a more detailed description of her broody-ness. @Edit to say that there's nothing wrong with short and simple emotes. To each their own, and from my days of multi guild/cross faction guild events in WoW, sometimes those long-winded emotes just aren't gonna work out. But the length of an emote doesn't exactly have to do with how interactive or hyper or physically expressive a character is.
