.....Wait....so...they're going to make a serious game with serious intent/lore/story based off of a series of stories written by an author who's intent for many or all of them was satire? .-. On the original topic, I've been going over what my character's family would be called. They're the typical corrupt but wealthy merchant family from Ul'dah. As many of ya'll other MG refugees mentioned, I was suuuuuper hesitant to use the term "noble" because of how...incorrectly it's been done/referenced/used in the game/server I spent most of my time playing. But it's nice to know I'm not flinging a word around incorrectly to explain her family's...stature. Then again it doesn't really apply to her since she's been disowned so all I really use it for is to OOCly explain what her family was on my wiki. >> Lastly, on the note of a LS to help organize "noblity" roleplay and possibly public or large grouped intrigue and higher society political battles/alliances/ect, I totally support that idea. While I've never been good at roleplaying one of the scheming royals (or had a character that could), I've been part of some larger scale "public knowledge" ones that were super enjoyable to watch and acknowledge from a distance. It really sorta adds immersion to me. We have the thugs and bad-doer's and refugees and poor folk, we have the adventurers, the soldiers, the merchants and the heros, but it really completes the world and environment when there's also really good "nobility" roleplay that is logical and works. Completes the circle, you know?

Hello! Welcome to the realm of roleplay! As mentioned, this site, and our wiki, has a ton of resources and people willing to help you build a character and thrive in the game's lore. However! If you want to do a little research on your own, here are some helpful links pulled out of this thread sticked in the welcome desk section that I found particularly helpful when I first joined and built my character for ff14. The Beginner's Guide to Roleplay, written by our very own Trizzip. The Official Lore Forums Time and Measurments, lengths, such as feet or yards or inches have been re-worded in FF14 as well as time units. There are no hours or years, for instance, but rather bells and summers respectively. An Incredibly In-depth History Lesson About the Current Era, written by Merri. The 12 Deities And finally Hyur Naming Conventions Hopefully the links above are helpful to you in your journey deeper into the realm of roleplay. The thread that hosts all the links I just posted also has a lot of good information after the link list complied about how the site functions in terms of linkshells and free companies and such. Hope to see you in-game sometime!

What Would An Information Broker Know About You?
AvaZope replied to Tiergan's topic in RP Discussion
1. -A decent information broker would know that Ava was recently (within the last year) removed/disowned from her family and/or split from them willingly (The latter being the more commonly believed rumor). Her family being a mix of wealthy, corrupted, Ul'dah members and Limsa bred smugglers/swindlers. - A good information broker would know that while she isn't upset about the event, she had nothing to do with it and there was possibly an attempt to off her that failed, leading to plan B, 'kick her out'. -She doesn't handle alcohol well. -She loves her chocobo, Bron, more than 90% of the rest of everything ever. -She's allergic to dodo meat. 2. Most of these are all fairly common rumors or things garnered easily from watching her/interacting with her. Hearing her decline dodo meat or alcohol, seeing her coo at Bron and pamper the bird...things like that. I threw in the decent/good broker part in on the first two because depending on your level of skill as an info broker IC/the interest they have in that part of Ava's past will lead to those two different conclusions. 90% of people who know about her exodus from her family know the first part- it was mutual. Only a few know that it actually wasn't. Any and all of this can be used however you see fit. I only ask that if there is an intent to hunt/harm/fight/ect in the person you're sharing the info with, tell me OOC so I have a heads up not to ignore someone who may start an RP like that, haha. -
Can I hug for for this? Especially the "motion" thing. I've literally always wished that was a thing I could do or at the least that I could figure out how. I never could in WoW and it made me so sad. But all the joys now! All of them! :moogle:

There are addons?

Sounds like most of the games' healing forums I've played, ha. That and the multiple "Our class is awful and the healing apocalypse is going to happen next patch" threads. All with different reasons, and opinions, of course.
-
All I can say is: I love where this thread has gone. It's like googling all the theorycrafting about healing for a game minus the googling and searching. This has been a blast for me to read and given me a hell lot more to consider about healing later in the game while I level.
-
Awesome, OK. Yeah, I totally get that the issue was probably heavily dependent upon gear, our levels, and the amount of available spells. As long as that kind of cycle isn't what goes forward with the game in further levels, I'm not worried. Also- When healing the final boss, I took to helping click/eliminate the bubbles that spawn the adds... I'm 90% sure that took the tank off as my target. If so, does that mean that most healers just leave mechanics like that to dps/tanks? I'm used to being able to kill adds or dispelling mechanics while healing in WoW.
-
Thanks for the input, guys. I had a feeling that may have been the issue, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

Thank-you thank-you! I shall await your return eagerly.

So, I just finished my first instance in FF14. (Sastasha.) I was straight up 15 conj, healing a level 16 marauder. Before I get to my question, some general info: I've priest/monk/paladin healed in both pvp and pve in WoW extensively. While I haven't raided with say, a guild, I have progressed to end game in the LFR area. So while I'm not "uber leet", I do have some experience. Now the question: Is it normal in this game to have to literally spam your single heal in order to keep the tank up/above 50%? Is striving to keep the tank topped off something that just doesn't happen in this game? It didn't seem that the issue was that I was under geared, each time I healed him he went from about 65-75% up to 100% again, but within the time it took my spell to CD, he was right there again. I also realize that this is very early game healing, but it was just so different from my experiences leveling my paladin, priest, and 2 monks in WoW 1-max via healing. Answers from any and all appreciated, though I'd really love if someone who healed in WoW were able to throw in their 2cents and tell me if I'm crazy or not.

I would definitely be up for some RP events or the like about this! I love the crafting system so much in this game that not only am I striving to max out all of them but it's a central part in my character's RP. (That and crafting is a main way to make gil at later levels and I want a house.... >>)

I think if it's a small event that's just to make some waves and get people into RP and such, you shouldn't have too many issues. If it's not a plot or storyline that encourages badasses or heros, you're less likely to see people overplaying and trying to be awesome via metagaming. At the same time, you should prepare for it anyway, regardless of how amazing a community is or not, because there are people roleplaying on our servers who haven't stumbled upon this site yet, or who haven't really become immersed in our community. There's always a chance a straggler who sees the RP going on in action will want to join in- and that's great! But those people have a 50/50 chance of being awesome or derpy. So, TL;DR, I wouldn't scrap any ideas you have for fear of meta gaming. If you're setting it up via these forums, make sure to list in very bold lettering, no metagaming or BS. This is for fun. That way you have a good chance that most people attending will know already not to pull a metamove and then you just have to deal with outsiders who straggle in. Which can be handled with a simple PM. Edit: K'dath also makes some very good points.

Just a quick update: My wiki is essentially filled out! Now to begin the spaz towards getting my chocobo! :chocobo:

That would actually be pretty cool, if the system worked that way. It may be that only people invited by the person who owns it while they are online could enter. If that's the case, it may be likely that someone buys it and opens it as a tavern their character owns. I know for a fact my character's home will be used as her shop, that I'll have open for IC interaction sales/crafting/ect.

Welcome, other new person! I'm on the same train you are, new to the game and patchin' the character together. I'm kinda glad that a lot of the lore is explained via cinematic as you level the main quest, it's been pretty helpful!
-
We could take sections of the lore (via wiki/lodestone/ect) and organize them into unique sections with extra added information, like in-game theories, different racial/city opinions and conspiracies to make them feel less like the basic wiki info blurbs and then title the sections and make up an author name (unless your character is a scholar and may have written it or something). That way, we have legitimate "books" that the community can both refer to but also use in character as reference.

That helps a whole ton! Thank-you very much!

I can't even verbalize how lost I am with this. I see people in main cities chatting in I think orange text, just chatting, like Trade for WoW. But there doesn't seem to be a chat...channel? Is /yell the makeshift "trade/general" chat in cities? And if I got this correctly, (which I may not have), Linkshells are essentially member based chats, not guilds with perks and ranks, like FC's...right? And if so, is there like a common RP LS for our community? Thanks for any help and sorry I keep asking dumb questions. :dazed:

Are there gun wep models in game for players?
AvaZope replied to AvaZope's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Darn. I maybe misunderstood/worded wrong. I'm aware that certain classes use different weapons/gear but are you still able to equip non-class items for the sake of roleplay when not in that class? Or do you have to go into that class to be able to equip them? -
I thought I saw one in someone's wiki screenshot. A pistol sorta weapon. Do these exist in-game for us to use? And if so, are they limited to a specific class? ...On that note, are -any- weapons/gear limited to what class you have active? Thanks for any help.

600 words is better than 60! Thanks for letting me know about that!

I come from primarily WoW, where there are addons aplenty. Ones that I love more than anything were the MRP type addons that let you put in info about your character that can't be seen from the model. Like a wiki in-game! So my question is- Am I (sadly) correct in noticing there are no addons like this? And that there are no little profile blurbs to put in a paragraph or two on your regular in-game character profile? All I've found is the search info which does appear when you examine someone, but I've only noticed people put roleplayer because there's a 60 chat limit. I tinyurl.com'd my wiki link into mine, which will have to do unless there's a better option.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! You didn't even have to tell me it was you, haha. I immediately started laughing.

I. Basic Info Characters: Ava Anders Primary character: Ava Anders (Hyur Midlander) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Ava_Anders Linkshells: N/A Primary RP linkshell: N/A II. RP Style I'm not always in character but one of my primary reasons for playing is to roleplay and I'm almost always able and willing to. I prefer longer, multi faceted stories but I do really enjoy random tavern/world RP as well. Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Heavy. Views on RP combat and injuries: Talk to me about it before we clash swords and you can kick my character to the next region. If you're able, of course. Views on IC romance: Realism. However, My characters are reserved from romance. (For I play with my S.O and his characters and mine tend to get friendly.) Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Realism. I think it's a fun concept to play. It seems to work better between people who previously know each other OOC so it may not happen for my characters since I'm so new to this game/community. Not opposed, however. Views on lore: Nothing is just black and white. There are always grey areas to work with. With that said, there are limits for sure. And being 100% unique details/standout from the rest of your culture/race in every possible way isn't always....viable. Just sayin'. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Say/Yell/emote should generally be kept for IC. Sometimes we all slip up and go ooc but I try not to in RP hubs to keep immersion. Guild/linkshell preferences differ with each one so that's up to them. III. Other Info Country:America Timezone:Central (I sleep during the day more than the night though so /nocturnal. Just fyi) Contact info: This site's inbox. [glow=blue]~Special announcements can be found in the posts below~[/glow]
