  1. After reading what Eva posted, as well as a fair bit of this thread, I do wonder about how well my character's concept fits a Duskwight Elezen, as much as I like it. To elaborate, what I am primarily concerned about is that he lived most of his life in Ishgard, and served as a knight under House Durendaire for a considerable length of time. His RPWiki elaborates a little more thoroughly, but that's the gist of it. As far as his general personality, while he's not quite as reclusive as the typical Duskwight, he is quite taciturn and introverted.
  2. Has your character changed from beta/release? Yeah, quite a lot actually! During the beta, I had actually had my mind set on playing a Plainsfolk Lalafell, and juggled between Plainsfolk and Dunesfolk during each phase. I liked the eyes of the Dunesfolk Lalafell more than Plainsfolk, as well as their earring options. But at release, since I was unable to create my character right off the bat, I ended up experimenting a lot with characters, and even considered Miqo'te for a while. In the end decided on Elezen as I just felt it fit both for me to be playing and for the character concept I had in mind. Have your expectations out of the RP community changed? Not really. I've been involved in several role play communities in the past, most recently being the WoW RP community and TERA Online for a short time, and I'm always really happy to see a prominent community on games that I enjoy playing, since it means another way for me to meet new friends, as well as enjoy the game with those friends. More than anything, as an FFXI player where roleplay was never very prominent, I'm happy to see that roleplayers have really come out of the woodwork in FFXIV.
  3. I assume that it's based off both a social/cultural sense of morality. Manipulation, especially on a grand scale such as screwing over an entire city to benefit a few--friends or not--isn't really considered a "good" trait. There are a lot of unknowns to the scenario you presented, but I think that much I can say. Let's say in a more extreme scenario, in which the lawful good need decide between the lives of his friends or the lives of an entire city. It is my understanding that the lawful good would--if faced with only those two decisions--choose to save the many over the few. But that's the difficulty in playing an inherently "good" character based solely off the notion of being good. It is impossible to be the shining standard of moral greatness at all times.
  4. I think that the issue with people playing inherently good characters is that they often do not put very much thought into the reasoning why their characters is good, as others have said before me. To be fair, having a character which is inherently evil just for the sake of being evil is just as silly. Without depth, motivation, and reasoning for a character to follow the ideals that they believe, the simple notion of being good or bad just for the sake of being that way falls flat, and it's easier to think up a pile of misfortune to build a strong reinforcement for an evil character or good-character-turned-evil than it is for a good character who remains inherently good throughout. I love to build complex characters, and even when I created Sigue I had little idea or concern as to what his general alignment would be until I built him up as a character. What I ended up with was, amusingly enough, a lawful good character thoroughly motivated to be the person that he is and with plenty reason to be. He has a reason to be selfless, a reason to aim for a bright future, and a reason to do good by others.
  5. I. Basic Info Characters: Sigue Valtier Primary character: Sigue Valtier Linkshells: The Moonwatyr Clan, Melius Latine Primary RP linkshell: None II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Medium to heavy. I can be in character for anything, and I roleplay as it's presented. If asked to roleplay and I'm not in the middle of something, I'm more than happy to! Views on RP combat and injuries: I don't mind roleplaying out combat scenes, provided it does not involve permanent injury/death. Views on IC romance: I'm open to it in all forms! I really enjoy watching how a romance develops between characters. I only ask that it happens under reasonable circumstances and not necessarily out of the blue. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): I'm open to this as well! It's a very good way to add depth to a character, and a great way to keep me interested in roleplaying. Sigue's past relations are left intentionally vague so that any acquaintances. family, or friends may feel free to jump in if they'd like! Views on lore: I'm not a huge lore hound, but I like to do a fair bit of research and apply lore to my character. I value creative concepts, so I'm not going to slam the lore bible down on anyone as long as said concepts aren't heavily against the game's universe. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): /say is always IC. /tell and /party is IC or OOC depending on the circumstance, but party is usually OOC unless arranged to be otherwise. I usually use brackets to indicate OOC interaction unless it's an extensive conversation started OOC. /linkshell and /fc are dependent on the preferences of the LS/FC I'm in! III. Other Info Country: United States Timezone: Eastern Standard Time (GMT-5) Contact info: Catch me in game, PM me on the forums, or get in touch with me via Skype (aziel.erias) or AIM (SigueUBW). I'd love to make new friends!
  6. I really like this idea! I'll bite. Sigue Valtier - Elezen Others are welcome to throw me an add whenever, or say hello to me if they catch me in game! I'm a pretty approachable and plenty interested in hearing from other roleplayers.
