Well hello! Invalid Avatar URL! Nice to meet you!

I like how if someone were not familiar with the concept from Final Fantasy 8, they might think we are a botany school when they see the name LOL! Limsa Lominsa Garden! A flower for every hour! Hahaha Ignore me....
-
Feel free to track me do- ...Add me to your list as well. Obviously, Kheni'to is also a Keeper. He grew up in a Keeper tribe, but for reasons he hasn't revealed to anyone yet, he is now solitary. He has spent years surviving on his own. He could maybe be a character for Siha to bump into and learn something from. Or just a person to converse with on passing. Anyways, next time I'm on, I'll see if you are anywhere near me, and maybe "accidentally" come across you.

First Annual Limsa Lominsa Garden Academy Ball
Kheni'to replied to Cesar's topic in Chronicled Events
Whoo! Aleport is a good choice. Anyone who is lower than lvl 15 might want to arrange for someone of higher level to escort them. If they haven't been there. -
I know I can't join..... But can I watch??

Explosions of Awesome happen as I greet you ALL!

I'm just glad........ that you're not another Miqo'te Yeah, I know, I'm a Miqo'te, but there are WAAAAAY too many of us! Welcome to the board. I wonder why it took so long for anyone to respond to your post? Sorry about that. The community here is actually quite nice. If you ever see my character in the game, don't hesitate to RP with me. Just ignore the dark storm cloud that lingers over his head. He's fine..... -
For any that wish to share inspirations for their character please do I know we all wish our characters to be totally unique, but I would assume most of us have at least some aspects of our character inspired by other characters from fiction (Or perhaps non-fiction!?). However, if you managed to come up with a totally original character, I applaud you. Tell us how you did it? My character has aspects of my own personality, but also influence from Squall Leonhart (Final Fantasy 8) and Gray Fullbuster (Fairy Tail). http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20101216073755/finalfantasy/images/d/d9/Dissidia_Squall.png[/img] http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120505100250/fairytail/images/9/9b/Gray_casts_his_magic.png[/img]

Hey, remember me and the students of the Limsa Lominsa Garden? You RPed with us today. It was awesome seeing a traditional Keeper and you RPed him so well. I wish I had known about this and you before making my character on Balmung. However, obviously, my character is already made with a lot of work put into him and I JUST joined the Limsa Lominsa Garden (Looking forward to seeing where that goes). Many of the students and I are still learning how to properly RP our characters, but maybe later down the line we can set up opportunities to do some joint RP events between your clan and our academy task force. From a lore standpoint, Keepers may try to keep out of contact with outside factions, but we could come up with some reasoning for a joint event IF you and the LLG staff were interested. As of now, I am just spit-balling ideas, and I have no authority in the LLG yet. I wish you luck with this. The community needs traditional Keeper clans. Edit: That was you we RPed with right? Now that I think about it, it could be a member of your clan. I just remember something'ir Molkot.

Ul'dah is not as big as it seems at first. The place has a whole lot of nothing spots. However, I did find two locations that might interest you. I wish I could have found an empty shop. I looked everywhere, tried everything and explored every nook and cranny of the place. There were no shops to take over. But maybe one of these two spots might suffice for you. Spot 1 The best spot IMO was an unmarked NPC stall to the left of the Linkshell Distributor (His Left, your right if you are facing him) and straight outside the side exit/entrance to the Adventurers Guild. A group of Miqo'te dancers are close to it as well. The NPC has no name or title and can't be targeted. She just stands there. The stall has a bunch of bags of grain or spices or something like that. It is possible to stand behind the stall and there is enough room to stand next to the NPC. She can simply be regarded as an employee. Some boxes sit behind the stall; they look like supplies. The best part is, there is seating. Right in front of the stall there is a stone step that spans the length of a huge planter. Plenty of room for multiple people to sit. The /sit emote will make any character sit on the step as if it were a normal bench. I tested it myself. People can walk up to the stall, order tea and then have a seat right in front of the place. It is kinda crowded with all the NPCs nearby, and figuring out which players are customers and which players are just passing by might be a bit difficult at times. Spot 2 I don't really see spot 2 as being better in any real way other than it is in a less crowded area. While in front of the Adventurer's Guild with your character facing the gate of Nald, you would turn left and head through the open gateway (look up to see the hoisted gate, it is indeed a gateway). Immediately after passing through the gateway, you turn right. There is a supply alcove. The alcove has a rope fence/barrier that can be easily jumped over. It would be a good place for staff to be standing, and waiting to serve customers. The open area in front of the alcove is large and kinda looks like a patio area with no seating. This would be a mall-type tea shop in which a customer could walk up and order tea, but would have to either stand there and drink it, or walk off with it. I took pictures of the spots. Once I figure out how to post them on this forum, I will.

An RP tea house sounds awesome. Once you have found a place to set it up, make sure to let us all know the location in this thread or maybe a new thread. My character definitely would prefer tea over ale any day. Actually, I'll scout Ul'dah for a location right NOW. It's 3am here, but I don't care! Kheni'to can scout. Kheni'to can scout like a boss! ...How do bosses scout?

Thank you Moxxi. I think you gave me some ideas on emotes. And Desmond, I would not disagree with you on the do what is right for my character thing. Thanks for the encouragement. I just get my best ideas and inspiration by observing. I am curious about what others with introverted characters do, because they seem less common. That could simply be the result of them being introverted LOL.

I saw your edit at the last second before making a reply. Thank you, that answers my question. I wanted to basically know what people thought of descriptive emotes, and also wanted advice on how one might go about making emotes descriptive for a character without ruining their broody-ness. I should have asked the questions that way, but sometimes my mind has a way of putting a bunch of fluff into what I write without properly getting to the point.
-
I once read from someone on this forum (sorry don't remember who) that being descriptive with emotes shows skill for an RPer. For example, instead of "Fred becomes sad" it would be better for "Fred frowns, and bows his head low. He lets out a loud sigh". However, the inherent problem I would have with the more descriptive one is it would take longer. More emotes like that would slow down a conversation unless an RPer was a very fast typist. Also, what if a character doesn't often display their emotions? I would assume it would be easy to think of emotes for a bubbly character, but an introverted, or broody character? I'd imagine the emotes should be more subtle, but something like "Fred makes a serious face" in every sentence would get a bit old, right? Anyone have experience playing broody characters in a way to where people get the idea, or don't think you're simply being lazy with the emotes?

It's called racial stereotypes and it brings some realism to the RP imho. My character likes Lalafells because he sees them as an honest and good-natured people. But even a positive racial stereotype is a stereotype. The Lalafells are going to be seen as cute little child-like people, the Miqo'te are going to be seen as the "kitty-cat people" and the Roegadyns are going to be seen as the meat-headed brutes. Breaking these stereotypes (or not), or coping with them in our own IC way can be maybe part of the fun. The only thing that bothers me is all the Miqo'te with improper names! Uhg it drives me crazy. I am not talking about the non-traditional names that a player may have an RP explanation for; I'm talking about the names like "Sir Purrrrzalot", "Kat Muffins", "Hello Kittyz", "Meowz Mixz", ect. Other races have funny-named characters running around too, but the Miqo'te have it BAD. I just have to keep trying to ignore them and not let it get to me. That is what playing as a Lalafell will be like. You'll have to ignore the cute comments and people who do baby talk at you, and try not to let it get to you. Or, if you're good at it, give them an earful that can knock their preconceptions on their backsides.

Great, so now after reading this thread, I got all pumped up and spent the better part of two hours trying to find a theme song that fit Kheni'to. Found one that fits well. Hopefully, no one else has claimed it yet. vbttZVTSJRU

I'm rather new to everything right now, so I may be missing something. But just because you are a Leatherworker doesn't mean you can't know something like martial arts. My character is all magic, and I will RP him as such, but I also take into account his upbringing in a Miqo'te tribe where learning how to use a bow and basically defend yourself from hostile people or animals was essential. While I am in the process of making my character's wiki, I wanted to make it clear that I wasn't godmoding, so I stated that he knows some BASIC archery and VERY BASIC martial arts, but is not a Pugilist, monk or martial arts master, and is not that good at archery even by non-Miqo'te standards. So no, I wont be turning him suddenly into Legolas during battle, and no I wont have him go all Jet Li in a bar fight, but I wanted to make it clear that if some drunk thug tried to attack him he wouldn't just roll over and die just because the thug gets too close to him. Sorry if I brought too much of my character into this, I just wanted to use him as an example. Why can't a character be a Leatherworker and know some martial arts or have a steady means of self defense? If you want to know if that is realistic, then look around you in the non-virtual world.

My global? Oh boy it was so long ago. I know that my global name was Electronn, but I don't remember all the other stuff attached to that. I played mostly on the Freedom server, that was my first server, but I did have a few characters on the Virute server. I think Virtue was the unofficial RP sever in that game. I don't remember which characters I had on most of the servers.

Thank you for the welcome everyone. I didn't know I'd be welcomed by so many so fast Olofantur, I appreciate you telling me about all the site's resources. There is a lot of that I want to look through. I'm pretty sure my RP essentials in my own records are mostly taken from Eva's post. She did a great job on that Handbook post. It must have taken her awhile.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I can already tell this community is pretty diverse. Once I step back, calm down and stop over-thinking it; I can probably be good at this. I learned from Eva's Role-playing Handbook what pitfalls to avoid. BTW S'janna and Gharen, your wikis are awesome. Didn't know there were character wikis that could be made. I'll have to think about that.

Hello everyone. I recently posted an introduction, and am now ready to get to a thread I've been wanting to post for a couple of days. There are a lot of conflicting signals that are confusing me a bit. For example, I recently read a post/message from a person advertising a free company of theirs. They stated that they would be welcoming to Role Play newbies, but wanted skilled role players (not in those exact words, but close enough). How does that work?. Also, a lot of RP free companies state that they want quality over quantity. This is an intimidating statement. What would be quality? Why do I only see statements like this from many RP Free Companies? Maybe I'm misunderstanding it, but it comes across to me as "we only take the best". Isn't that subjective? How do I know what FC to possibly apply to if I don't know when or how I'd be a skilled RPer? I will appreciate anyone who responds to my post. Maybe I'm over-thinking it. I tend to do that.

Introduction I'm a bit overwhelmed right now considering I'm a double whammy newbie. Not only am I new to FF14, but I am new to RPing as well. However, I am not a newbie to MMOs or RPGs. That latest game before this one being Guild Wars 2. I've known of the concept of RPing from when I played my first MMO, City of Heroes, years ago. I've played in a silly RPish way in GW2 with a friend of mine, but I wouldn't call it actual RPing. How I found this Forum I am a research kind of guy. Long story, short. Without any friends of mine to play this game with, I started a search for a Free Company. I found a listing on a random site. The FC was an RP FC but it sounded fun, and it re-established my interest in RP. I contacted the leader via e-mail, I was referred to the Role Playing Handbook post by Eva on this forum. I read it entirely three times. I started a new character in Balmung. Here I am. My Preparation I spent nearly 4 days playing the game, researching lore, writing two RP essays (I love writing) and watching other players RP (like some kind of creepy stalker). One three-page essay I wrote regarding my character's history, story and personality. The other essay is 6 pages and it is a summary of important lore, FF14 historical events, RP essentials (such as the meaning of OOC and IC), emote information and culture information. Did I go nuts? I think so. Anyways, it is good to meet everyone. I already have another thread I want to start regarding some questions I have. For now, I'll leave this thread at "hello all".
