E3 Q&A/Liveletter (Mrhappy overview) - RP status icon incoming?
Mastersticks11 replied to Maril's topic in FFXIV News
Wanted Apartments for a while, not sure how I feel about them only being in Ishgard though. Great step forward (For making sure everyone gets housing) awkward for roleplayers without a home who don't want to live in Ishgard though. -
I ask this because I have seen plenty of timelines of Eorzea. But all of them seem rather confusing because of how the number resets with each era and all the timelines I have seen don't show every number in each era. It becomes especially hazy when you get into recent years time. As after ARR I have no clue how many years have passed or what the present date it. I ask so I can know what year my 24 year old character would have been born, and what each year was subsequently after that. But I am sure others would like to have a timeline of RECENT history so as to pinpoint when what happened in their life and when they were born, easily. So could someone either make a list of the last 20-30 years by name? or create a more detailed graphic or something (if you are more artistic/skilled in programs than I am?) Thanks

discussion What do we know about the laws of Eorzea?
Mastersticks11 replied to Mastersticks11's topic in RP Discussion
So I made a list, I will state each crime then a (G/U/L/I) for Gridania, Ul'dah, Limsa, and Ishgard. If its letter is next to the crime, that means it is illegal in that city state. If there is a * that means there is exceptions. Just because something may be illegal as well, does not mean that the law enforcement will always be compliant. So tell me what you guys think: Personal Crimes Assault (G/U/L*/I) Battery (G/U/I) False Imprisonment (U/L) Kidnapping (G/U/L/I) Homicide (G/U/L*/I) Sexual Assault (G/U/L/I) Property Crimes Larceny (G/U/L*/I) Robbery (G/U/L*/I) Burglary (G/U/L*/I) Arson (G/U/L/I) Embezzlement (G/U/L/I) Forgery (G/U/L/I) False Pretenses (G/U/I) Receipt of Stolen Goods (G/L*/I) Inchoate Crimes Attempted- (Murder, Assault, Robbery, ect) (G/U/L*/I) Solicitation (G/I) Conspiracy (G/U/L/I) Additional Crimes Tax Evasion (G/U/L/I) Smuggling Contraband (G/U/L/I) Usage of Black Magic (G/U/L/I) Consorting with the Void (G/U/L/I) Consorting with Beast Tribes (G/U/I) Slavery (G/U/L/I) Poaching (G) Unwarranted Deforestation (G) If there is anything you all think should be changed, tell me -
discussion What do we know about the laws of Eorzea?
Mastersticks11 replied to Mastersticks11's topic in RP Discussion
The only thing I really want my character to do, is to know what is a crime in each city state. And if someone commits a crime and the victim contracts him, to 1. Discover if they actually committed the crime. 2. Find sufficient evidence that they committed the crime. then 3. Report it to the appropriate authorities to handle. I don't actually intend upon playing a lawyer character lol. But he probably won't stop hassling the law enforcement until they do something. The actually getting the character tried is just speculation that I thought would be enjoyable to have. -

Mastersticks11 replied to Mastersticks11's topic in RP Discussion
Yeah it helps a lot! Thank you! The general list of crimes that I think most places have now a days are Assault Battery False Imprisonment Kidnapping Homocide Sexual Assault Larceny Robbery Burglary Arson Embezzlement Forgery False Pretenses Reciept of Stolen Goods Attempt- (murder, assault, robbery, ect) Solicitation and Conspiracy. What I wonder is out of the list, what city states DON'T cover. So Limsa may not always cover homocide. If they do not always cover homocide do they cover sexual assault? Is Reciept of stolen goods (The buying of goods you know are stolen) legal in Limsa? ect. -

Mastersticks11 replied to Mastersticks11's topic in RP Discussion
Ah! Thanks for the read, and thanks for everyone's input above. What the poster in your linked article says makes a lot of sense. However I think there is still a bit more we can add to our theoretical list of laws. Even as far back as Roman Times there was a Statute of Limitations. And sometimes in our Detective dramas that can play an important role. I would imagine that each city state has its own statute of limitations, Ul'dah for instance having a complicated system of many different statutes for different types of crimes. The Statute for Contracts and property related deals could be quite high, from 20-30 years. Then for things such as violence, the Statute of limitations could be low, as it happens so often and the corrupt in the brass blades and (higher ups who use violence to silence the minorities) would want to avoid having to deal with these cases as much as possible. Say 1-3 years. And the statute for violent crimes that involve murder or sexual slavery could last like 10 years. Meanwhile in Limsa, they may carry a general statute of limitations. where most crimes are given a 20 year period to be solved. I could see Gridania and Ishgard as not really having a statute of limitations at all though. Seeing as how no matter when they did it, any crime against the twelveswood could cause danger. And in Ishgard if you are at any point proven to be guilty, they will probably lock you up forever. The first will still probably give you a fair trial, but the second probably won't. I also think that certain voices would be valued far more for evidence than others. I believe in Gridania, if you are a Keeper Miqo'te going against an Elezen citizen, his word will be held as more reliable than your own. Subjecting characters to prejudice based upon their race. I am sure Gridania still is not all that fond of outsiders. Meanwhile in Ul'dah it would be far less racially based, and more socially based. If you are high in the social class, your word will be valued more than a peasants. Making it harder to win a case against those of upper class and easier against those of lower class. Limsa is probably the fairest of all the courts to be convicted in, not discriminating so much about about race or social class. Lastly I also think there may be rules and regulations on which city state will even take your case, if at all. If you are in Ul'dah and a crime is committed against you, but you are of poor social creed, you may have a very hard time in those trials. And you won't be able to have the trial done within Gridania or Limsa because it is out of their jurisdiction. If you are a Citizen of Gridania but a crime is committed against you in Ul'dah. Then I think in the case of non violent crime, your only option will be through Ul'dah's court systems. However if it is a violent crime? Then Gridanian officials will step in to protect one of their own, even if they may not be able to catch the criminal. They can set out a warrant for their arrest if they ever step within the shroud. I think Gridania would be the best city state to be a citizen of if you are looking for protection from violent crime wherever you are. Limsa to a lesser extent. And Ul'dah is mixed depending on how much money you have, they will probably impede upon other city states in cases regarding property with their citizens (Making citizenship ideal if you are a trader) What do you all think of these ideas? It can add more challenge in regards to lawyers having to defend their clients and adds more leeway for criminals. Because being a private investigator can't be all fun and games. The best detective stories are the ones where the laws or bureaucracy are kind of against you. But you still try your hardest to bring justice. P.S. In regards to evidence permissible in a court of law. I would imagine you still have to get warrants in each city state (Except perhaps Ishgard) in order to do a search. In order to get a warrant there needs to be more evidence than just a witness. I actually kind of wonder if Ul'dah wouldn't be the only city state to implement a warning at the beginning of the conversation in order for a conversation to be valid as evidence (However it may only qualify for Ul'dahn citizens). I can't see why a port city of pirates would care too much about warnings (Or be smart enough to remember it), or why Gridania or Ishgard would ever restrain themselves if they felt their social order was in danger merely because the accused wasn't "warned" their words may be used against them. You probably are not given a lawyer in any city state as a freebie. If you are poor you are on your own unless you can convince someone to help you. I could see Ul'dah forcing you to get a lawyer however, and pull a loan in order to get one if you are called to court. (I am sure the money will make its way back to the syndicate somehow) -
As someone who wants to get back into role playing on FFXIV. I was thinking of playing a detective/police like character and I was wondering if there is any specifically described laws mentioned for any of the city states? If there is any laws we can safely assume exist? And if there is any laws that exist within one city state but not another? I feel as though it would be interesting to know more about the legal scene within Eorzea.

Any race is fine. Please be fairly detailed if you offer me a role on what your family member might look like as well. (What inheritable traits run through your family) Hair color, eye color, possibly how they might act? You can go more detailed into family background now or as we go as well. -
I am looking to join someones RP as a brother or sister Balmung prefered. (But not limited to)
-
Aww... Well it was just an idea. I mean it is a fantasy world. But I just wanted to see more professional opinions.
-
Literally... About the transition between day and night. I feel like before I saw a post concerning night and day and when to regard such as such in role play because it goes by so fast. Well recently I was thinking. Isn't it possible for multiple passing's of the sun to go by before we get physically tired. So do we really need relate Eorzea to our real time cycle? Think like how on other planets days will go by much faster and much shorter. So that does not change our natural need to sleep and it does not even change what could be considered a day time wise. A day could be the passing of multiple suns within a certain time frame. I am probably horrible at explaining this heh... But it was just a thought. Because when you RP and you look up at the night sky I think you should see the night sky instead of having to believe it is day because your conversation started when it was day...

So is the person playing Naira still alive? As far as I know there is not even a character in-game for her yet...

Now we just need all the female rolls taken up :3

Q_Q So beautiful...

That sounds fine by me! :3 This family is awesome. ((Hear that forum people? Fill more rolls to join this awesome family and make it even more awesome!))

I have had problems sliding into RP on all my characters. But the easiest way I found to lessen up the pain is to get to know someone who is really well integrated and hang around with them a lot (But it is a bit difficult to do because most well integrated people are too busy.) or start out in a RP. Like taking the role of someone in a well developed RP with lots of people. Although here it seems like the first option is your only one. I will always RP with you if you need it. My character is Eccai'ra Hlaiwa. Add me. The main thing you need right now is connections. The more connections you have the more potential RPers you can possibly find when they are not busy and RP with. Join a RP LS and add as many RPers as you can find and tell them they are new. Ask around for advice from other people IN the game and you will get more immediate responses and maybe even RP opportunities. Remember if you are ever in doubt about walking up to someone. You can always PM them and ask. They may even help you.

Aww man! Now I am excited! I come back and see so many roles are taken now! I was wondering who plans on RPing this characters further AFTER the wedding? Because me and Trauen plan on using our characters a lot. The bigger family the better and more RP fun to be had! So I encourage you to keep the character you pick like I did and to RP itleast occasionally. If you do you can count on me to definitely RP with you! This is especially so towards the girl who has a crush on mine. *Cough* I like her *Cough* And Hwest'a seems to kind of like Naira :3

Just a question. What happens to the characters after the event? Is this family something that can continued to be RPed long after the event? Or is it something strictly for the event. I would like to play a role but I do not want it to be something very temporary. So being attached to the family. Will that stay and open more RP opportunities in the future? Lastly I do not know much about tribes in this game although I would really like to know more and what might the last names be for the characters? I kind of wish I could see a family tree graph to understand relations a bit better here but so far I do not think I would have any problem taking up a role.

Just for reference I am Central Standard Time USA. But I am normally on from 5 pm to 3 am.

The character is 15 years old. I can understand your character not liking being around younger characters if they are much older so that's fine. Do you have any suggestions for my character though? Or comments? Or anyone you can suggest me to to RP with?

I just had some further ideas for my character so I thought I would post them. Starting at the age of 14 He lost his memories. Which was probably for the best. Because before then he was as evil as someone can possibly be. He slaughtered his own family and lives to watch the torture of others. Seeing immense amusement in it. After he lost his memory for some unknown reason he was taken in by the pirates and convinced that he had for the majority of his life been with them. And so they nurtured him and helped him be a good person. He still has his book of dark magic and evil torturing but He nor any of the other pirates could read. Recently a little after his 15th birthday A large group of pirates slaughtered everyone on his ship. He hid and was the only survivor. Having escaped into a barrel filled with oranges. Those pirates were people deeply scarred by his old and evil self. After a few days inside that barrel Y'nhia arrives in Limsa where he started living on the streets selling oranges for a living. He was so scarred but what happened his speech degressed but he is slowly gaining it back. But it also opened a wound that cannot be easily healed. Memories of his old self. Anytime He becomes extremely stressed I will roll a D20. If I roll a 1 then I will briefly become my old self again. If I roll a 2 to 3 then I will see my old self again as a ghost that may talk to me. If I roll a 4 to 6 I will have a hallucination related to my past. A hallucination related to the darkness, pain, and suffering of my past. a 7 to 20 will result in nothing. Life can't always be interesting. Anyway my final salvation from my old past will be to keep calm and try to live my new life as normal and peacefully as possible. Maybe become a healer of sorts. Do good things. I will also have to fight to hold the darkness within me at bay.

I have really wanted to get into RP on both Gilgamesh and Balmung and I finally made a character for Balmung. A Seeker who was orphaned and taken in by pirates and raised until recently his whole pirate crew was killed. Now he finds himself in Limsa with nothing and nowhere to go. I am open to all kinds of RP really as long as they would fit a 15 year old orphaned Miqo'te. So anyone and everyone please help me get into RP by getting to know my character or offering roles to join in yours if you think my character could fit. Ingame name is Y'nhia Blackwood
