  1. Thanks for reaching out! I'm definitely interested, but would need a bit more info. Add me on discord (listed above) so we can discuss. I can make a Linkshell spot as well, so that won't be a problem.
  2. Yo! So long story short, I used to be more involved in PVP when this game first came out, but hung it up during HW. I'm looking to get back into it now, so I'll give you a bit about my character in addition to what I'm looking for. As for me, I play EST times with flexible availability during evenings. Weekends mostly all day. I am looking for long term or short term, with a preference to long term should things "click". My writing style is flexible, so I can adjust to whatever works best for you. However, strong written English is a must. You can reach me in game: Stefan Delumiere, or on discord at King#0945 1) The Character, Stefan Delumiere: https://wiki.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/pages/Renault_Delumiere 2) Connections I'm looking for: - Merchants: Of any scale or net worth. Stefan is a very successful merchant and has built several fortunes through trade. I really enjoy RP that delves into discussions about fantasy economics, or stories of monetary success. Also, building relationships that could turn a profit for either our characters would be interesting and mutually beneficial. - House Help: Maids, Cooks, Shipping Staff, or other such servants and laborers. Stefan has a mansion, and does not take care of it on his own. - Conjurers/Healers: As mentioned in the wiki, Stefan is an extremely skilled conjurer, though it is not at the forefront of his typical character. I am more than interested in having him meet other skilled conjurers, and even open to him becoming a mentor for a novice. - Fellow Esteemed Gladiators: Stefan was, and is, one of the most esteemed healers in The Wolve's Den. I would be very interested in having him meet the "others" he'd have fought against or alongside in a different setting. - Shady contacts: Stefan did not make his fortune in the purest of ways. Much of it is due in credit to his dealings in the less than reputable. Therefore, I would be looking to connect him with large-scale drug dealers, smugglers, and auctioneers of other illegal things. - Other: I'm not looking for much else in particular, but am always open to additional contacts in general. If I and my character seem like a pair you'd want to write with, just let me know and we can work something out.
  3. Hey! Stefan actually has a private estate with a few "NPC" maids, but could always use another! Ward 11, Plot 2 if you'd like to check it out. Either way, hit me up in game (Stefan Delumiere) and we can figure out a dynamic or story that works for both of us!
  4. Maybe an unpopular opinion... But just like in real life, if you want to make friends, you are going to have to be at least a little bit social.
  5. Just want to add my 2 cents on the topic. I barely RP anymore, though it used to be the main thing I did in this game. I went to the same event (The Golden Gala event at the Ul'dah fountain place.) My experience is kind of different, in that I had no trouble finding RP at all. The trick is to find other people like you (groups of 1 or 2 people, seemingly looking un-engaged in RP.) If you try to approach a large group which may already be 3-4 hours into RP, you will naturally find yourself having a harder time squeezing in.
  6. Hi! My character has what you might consider an "Artifact." It is a pendant which contains the Aether of a fire spirit (very powerful fire elemental.) He summoned it once a long time ago which lead in quite a bit of mayhem, and ultimately needed the help of about 10 others to seal it away again. I would be up him getting it stolen/taken/bought away from him. My IGN is Stefan Delumiere if you'd like to reach out and set it up.
  7. First, thank you for your reply, as it shed some light on the situation which ultimately led to me seeing and understanding exactly what I was proposing in my OP. It had really skipped my mind that things like: slaying Bahamut Prime, quelling the Illuminati threat within Alexander, and other related content...Is all handled by the WoL canonically. In my opinion, I think there is some leeway in terms of Primals, certain dungeons(which don't house major lore characters) and the like, since those beasts are able to be killed over and over. ( Hell, the story of extreme mode primals is just that. The worshipers simply re summoned the primal. ) Second, the arena PVP game modes are not tied to grand company. You are simply given a team (Fangs or Claws), which alternates each game.
  8. To me, it is not about proving your skill in terms of your character's story or self-perceived achievements, but rather how you size up to other players claiming that they are the same, or better. If a player claims that their character is a better smith than yours, has specialists in each profession, leveled to maximum, with fully melded gear, and all of the achievements, would you not be more inclined to humor that claim than if they were a level 1 crafter? I would never say that going that extra mile is necessary to RP something, but it certainly does, in my eyes, make the story more believable.
  9. I want to agree with you to an extent, I really, really do. I think it would be incredible to see high-level content RP'd out and documented. That would be some very interesting story telling. However...It is my personal opinion that a group of adventurers going back and going over these hurdles when the content is easy and the story old (as is the case of Coil), would have less credibility to claim their feat than the writer who claims the same, and HE was the first to tackle the challenge, back during it's relevancy.
  10. Yes, you may have quit JUST BEFORE, or even during the time I'm talking about. I RP'd on Moon Guard primarily during WOTLK, so I am surprised you never heard of Eldanesh (who I might add, was generally disliked, but still recognized as the dude who killed Kel'Thuzad.) I both loved and hated the council. I thought it was really cool that the player base was able to establish a player-run government of sorts, which MANY players did abide by. I am very green leaf when it comes to the current FFXIV community, but I don't believe we have many players like that, do we? And by that I mean, players who are generally regarded as having certain roles of power or governance?
  11. Not at all! I really enjoy your responses, as you give very well thought out reasons to back up your opinions.
  12. Thanks for your reply. There was another poster asking about the WoW comment so I will clarify for you both! There were a handful of players on Moon Guard who had claimed to be part of the groups of heroes who had conquered certain enemies. As a server-wide rule, you could only claim such if you held the realm-first title/acheivement associated with it. I am thinking of one player in particular as an example, a Paladin named Eldanesh, who had the "Conqueror of Naxxaramas" title, which he then wore proudly, and was part of his story in which he had been part of the team to storm the undead fortress of Naxxaramas and kill the minions of the Lich King within. Other players were free to claim to also have been alongside him, but they simply held less credibility. This was a discussion that was held on the realm forums (I think back in 2010?) and the general consensus was that this was "Ok" because only a small group of players could achieve these things and so there would not be hundreds of people walking around claiming to have killed the big bads ICly.
  13. I do understand what you're saying. However, in my experience it is -also- very rare for RPers to actually RP many of the things they claim their characters to be skilled at. Whether it be battle, tradecrafts, or something else. To me, I think it is similar to the argument that a max level character is more credible than a fresh level 1. There are exceptions, but I am personally more inclined to believe that the person holding the server 1st kill of T13 was there to see Bahamut's final fall, rather than the Level 30 claiming the same. To clarify, I am not claiming that this character is "better" or "stronger", just that they have more credibility to claim their achievements if they have in-game achievement to back it up.
  14. I'd like to think it's so much as "I am better than you at roleplay" but rather, "There are game systems and achievements I have that give legitimate claim to my characters strengths and achievements." Let's take PVP for example. If the top PVPer was also a good role player, would you not recognize them as such ICly?
  15. Hi all, It's been a very, very long time since I've been around here, but this thought popped into my head and I am curious as to what everyone's opinions are on this particular topic. Using in-game achievement as a means of credibility for character back story. Examples of this would be things like: - Players who are highly rated in The Feast RPing as being more talented at fighting others. - Players who hold Realm first kills of encounters RPing that they were actually present at the time of the creatures downfall (think Coil, Alexander, etc.) - Players who have made a trading empire and mountains of gil actually RPing that they are extremely wealthy and have a hold on several markets. I ask this, because back when I RP'd in World of Warcraft, it was widely agreed upon that characters who held these prestigious achievements would be recognized for them ICly. I am interested in hearing your thoughts and opinions. Edit: I am seeing a lot of the same reply, so I wish to clarify something. I am not suggesting that in-game achievement is more important than good writing, but that it adds credibility to a claim.
