The Host Club will be running a MURDER MYSTERY on November 3rd, 4 PM EST at the Host Club, which is located in The Goblet, Ward 9, Plot 10 on Balmung Server. Each host can provide a single hint, though the murderer is among them, and he may not be telling the truth! Request a host and ask what they know during your encounter. The following rules apply: The 'murderer' is one of the following people: Daijiro, Eight, Enqdai, Kjartan, Maral, Rashk, Saerdha, Vohnih'a or Weylen. Sharing tips (correct or otherwise) with other gentlemen is permitted and encouraged. The upstairs lounge will be a gathering place for gentlemen who are not being hosted; it is ideal for murder mystery gossip. You may submit one guess as to the true identity of the killer to the staff. Do so in writing without sharing your final decision! (Send Daijiro a /tell as you hand in your note to one of the staff.) The result will be announced at the end of the night (around 7 EST) The first person to have submitted the right answer wins a free membership, provided they are accepted by a host. All other correct answers win a free meal in the Host Club with one of the hosts! (This saves a lot of fictional gil and is a nice RP opportunity!) All other rules and details can be foundwebsite: http://gms.carrd.co/

Please consider joining our hosts in wearing far eastern clothing for the occasion! I hope to see you all there! Please look forward to it! Thanks to Maral Goro for the absolutely amazing poster!

Lililove: I checked out Camp Drybone! The churchyard there does tend to increase my confusion, though, rather than decreasing it. It's got the aesthetic of Christianity thrown in in a kind-of syncretically Japanese way without really making sense to me in a larger context. Sounsyy: I was really hoping that you would reply, seeing how most of the stuff I have in my 'Thaumaturgy lore stash' for past and future lessons is from your reference posts, including some of the once you've linked. You're really awesome! Where do you get the 'removal of organs' bit from? I may have missed it somewhere. Or is that your inference from comparing it to, say, Egyptian embalming? I had another idea, and am curious about your thoughts: what if the purpose of the 'processing' of the corpse is to make sure that it becomes unsuitable for use by a necromancer or similar outside force? In primitive terms this could mean breaking the bones so that the corpse (if reanimated) would not be able to stand. But more complex magic (ice and fire) could be used to accomplish this effect by making bones brittle through the hyperlocal application of temperature differences. This would avoid turning the corpse into a hideously disfigured Thing. Does that idea at all make sense?

Hi everyone, I've already drawn heavily on this forum for all sorts of thaumaturgy and related lore and use that stuff in my classes. You are great. <3 On the 11th, though, Dietrich will be giving a class on life and death in his Thaumaturgy lecture series for Vylbrand Academy. If it is at all possible I would really like to include a practical element that concerns Ul'dahn funerary rites, specifically what is called "the physical and religious preparations for a person's travel into the next realm." From the lore references that I've seen on this forum, I know that the Ossuary gets paid handsomely for corpse preparation and that these corpses are then subsequently buried at the churchyard (or presumably somewhere else). There are also references that the original development of thaumaturgy came from the need to prepare the dead, which suggests that thaumaturgical magic is involved in the process of corpse processing somehow. What I do not know is what it is that the Ossuary actually does to these bodies. Is there any evidence? (I assume there probably is not, given the subject matter). And if there is no evidence as such, what sort of reasonable speculation (headcanon accepted!) might there be with regards to this? Ideas, suggestions and speculation welcome - especially if it's from lore that hasn't been covered in this Opening Post!

Alright, this is some very useful information and I'll be sure to use it! By the way if others have additional information or product they use on their RP feel free to share as well! Also: any potential customers around?

For roleplaying purposes (a possible side-business for Dietrich) I'd like to know more about recreational drugs that are used in Eorzea. A particular herb whose name escapes me is mentioned in the Ul'dah opening cinematic, but I don't know much else about it. Is more information available about it elsewhere? Or anything else that's hard-canon or soft-canon? I'm also curious about content that might have been created by players in this area. Especially if it may also be traded with in-game herbs and the like. If there's nothing I might create something myself! Thanks already for y'alls help and input!

Dietrich's pretty self-serving and could be a villain in some stories. Dennthota Ahtahrmwyn: if you want an alt for a thieving guild, hit me up! I've got one that's been neglected!

This. In another setting it'd be weird (because not medieval etcetera) but in this context it's perfectly fine. Hence Dietrich's red eyes and hair with differently shaded highlights - wouldn't do that in another game.

I've had the opportunity to RP with a bunch of you already. Always looking for more! This is a fun server!

Bedankt! / Thank you both! Look forward to meeting you in-game as well. n_n
