  1. Q&A! Q. Why do I have to try out? A. This is a spectator event demonstrating fighters. While it is being advertised as a tournament of champions in truth it is closer to WWE. There will be gimmicked fighting events and a lot of boasting between characters prior to the actual match. To save a lot of headache, most of the fine details are being hashed out at the mini-events leading up to the main event. Q. Trials by Combat--What do you mean? No magic or alchemy is allowed. Only pure physical fighting. In addition there will be several trials the fighters may be subjected to which includes but is not limited to -- Unarmed combat (taking their weapons away) -- Player vs Machine (special fighting mammets are being created) -- Escalating combat (if the fight isn't going fast enough additional elements will be added such as allowing the spectators to throw vegetables at the fighters) Q. How is the victor being decided? A. The following categories for the tournament have been decided - Best Heavy Fighter (Plate, armor wearers) - Best Lightweight Fighter (Leather etc) - Fan Favorite (Audience selected) - Best Showmanship (i.e. best smack talker)
  2. Fighting Tournament Tryouts Several mini events will occur leading up to the Summer Festival and Tournament. The nature of these events is to ICly hire the supporting cast for the event and to acquire the fighters necessary for the event. It is mandatory you attend at least one of the tryouts in game prior to the event in order to be a part of the supporting role. We will be going over the rules of the tournament and the mini events that will happen the day of. Tryout Dates: Wed. Aug 27 7PM EST Sat. Aug 30 2PM EST Sun. Aug 31 5PM EST Location: Fesca's Wash, Central Thanalan (Outside Gates of Nald) Main Event --> here Staff Positions: Master of Ceremonies: The announcer for the fights. Will need to be there for the entire length of the main event and should try to be there for all the tryouts. This is the most important role in the event outside of the event. Healers: Need IC healers and medics to run the first-aid tent to make sure our fighters are taken care of after the matches as well as help patch up any foolish guests. Wait Staff: Supply drinks and food to the guests. Entertainment: Musicians, dancers and other entertainers that act on the sidelines to keep the guests happen between matches. Moderators: Fight moderators will keep tabs on the fighters to help keep the fights as clean as possible. Moderators must be very wellversed in free-form combat and not have any bias toward individual fighters. They will be the IC refereesand handle any OOC disputes. Fighters: Roleplayers with a fighter character that haveexperience with Freeform Combat. We will not be using a dice system. The purpose of this event is to provide a spectacle tournament and festival atmosphere similar to the fighting tournaments of medieval times. Depending on the support we may have very unique challenges for the fighters. Not all of the combat will be player vs player, there will be some environmental factors added to keep things interesting. Fights may or may not be entirely fair between players depending on the style of combatants that get through the tryouts. We want to demonstrate exceptional roleplay prowess and the tournament itself is about the show not about winning.

  4. Thanks for hosting the event! I felt it was a huge success
  5. The idea that Gilgamesh is lacking in roleplay is silly. I have not been playing FFXIV for very long so perhaps I don't see the reason to lose hope or have my morale crushed just yet. I joined 3 months ago when a small group of my friends who have already left for greener pastures--no worries, my friends are fickle like that and they bounce from game to game swiftly but not me! FFXIV's community has been what finally made me cancel for good my previous MMO. I am happier here than I ever have been elsewhere. My one complaint about Gilgamesh is that unlike Balmung, there is a lack of open world roleplay. That said, there is an AMAZING rich and diverse amount of FC roleplay among the many RP FC's and more story-driven and "serious" roleplay. I play on both. Balmung and Gilgamesh. What I've come to experience is that Balmung is great for tavern rp, for open world rp, for small plots on the street corner that are mostly fluff with the occasional event. What I've seen from Gilgamesh is amazing. I've been roleplaying for a very long time and I remember the days of my college youth and high school years when roleplay could be compelling enough to keep me up all night. I had not had that until recently. The great care people take in their characters and the effort put forth to create events is amazing. What is more amazing is some of the "big picture" ideas that are coming out of Gilgamesh. So what if a few people are leaving? I challenge that anyone who wants roleplay can find roleplay still. I have never reached out searching for it and been left wanting (well except for maybe at 5am but... I should have been asleep). This talk that Gilgamesh is in a sad state of affairs is stupid and saying these things only hurts morale. Just the other day Berserk had their auction event and there was a HUGE turnout so much so that it took hours to auction everyone off and hours more of roleplay afterwards. There are still plenty of people left on Gilgamesh that want to roleplay so... If you're not happy with the state of things, help us to change it.
  6. The Storytellers LS is a hub shell for event-planners, RPguild leadership and promoters of World Roleplay. Our goal is to create a fun and collaborative environment that helps to alleviate the Linkshell gloat by having a central hub for major events and event planning that can subsequently be promoted throughout the other roleplay shells. This is not intended to be a vocal, social LS instead aimed at creating and promoting cross-Company roleplay. It is a dream of ours to create a rich, textured and compelling roleplay world. Several of our LS members are a part of other projects for the good (and bad) of Eorzea as well as more casual daily events. If you are a mover and shaker, if you are an event planner or coordinator you should join us.
  7. I. Basic Info Characters:Maki Rui, Twilight Orchid, Gudo Budo and many more. (Addict!) Primary character:Maki Rui Linkshells:Driftwood Coast, Berserk, OWLS Primary RP linkshell:(I don't really like to rp in linkshell) II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Medium - Heavy. If in the game I am always In-Character unless otherwise stated. I'll do OOC runs and things to get better at the game but for the most part I make decisions based on the character, for the character, by the character. (e.g. Maki Rui as a character was raised a hunter and for that reason began as an Archer. Unless something ICly happens to make her want to pursue magic she will probably never become a Black Mage). I have a lot of characters created just for the sake of being roleplay plot devices. I really enjoy emersive, gritty mature roleplay, both as a player and a storyteller. If you are on Gilgamesh or Balmung and have need for a mature, intelligent roleplayer that has no qualms over being a plot device or a bad guy keep me in mind! If you have a path you want to take your character but need a villain to help you get there throw me a shout! If you are a villain and need a place to stretch your legs, let me know! Everyone likes to play the hero... it takes a genius to pull off the antihero! Views on RP combat and injuries: I love RP combat with people who are mature. I don't like RP combat with the people that can do backflips in full plate on the back of a chocobo while hurtling a javelin dodging every arrow matrix style. (I have nothing against losing a fight, I just really get annoyed at cheap unrealistic moves) Views on IC romance: If it is appropriate for the character. I am a mature roleplayer, I prefer to play things out however the pieces may lie. From the sweet to the dark and everywhere in between. I am a very character-driven roleplayer so whether or not my character would be open to romance depends on their personality. I have some who lack the ability to 'settle down' but may be free spirited otherwise and some, like Maki, who are ferociously loyal and would sooner gut a person than consider a stain on her honor. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Same with IC romance. I love it all. Friendships, family, kinship, comraderie, etc. In fact I'd say I much prefer the grittier, lets get down in the mud and battle us some Dodo's over the "oh snookems wuvvle bear let us sip champagne and watch the sunset!" Views on lore: I like to incorporate lore as much as possible. FFXIV I think did a great job at creating an atmosphere with a lot of wiggle room. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I prefer to roleplay in /say or /party. I can tolerate /linkshell but I prefer to not roleplay in it as though we're standing face to face when we are not. I would rather roleplay over Skype in that instance. III. Other Info Country:USA Timezone:Eastern Contact info:PM here, Maki Rui on Gilgamesh. I will share Skype and YIM with those who ask for it (but not going to advertise it here for the world to add me to their spam).
