  1. I was -briefly- a part of Driftwood. When I first got involved with the guild, it was really fun. I met a lot of the members in the Goblet and was looking forward to making new friends. But as time went on, stuff which I can only assume to be drama started happening within the guild and people, some of whom I had been RPing with just a few days before, started randomly leaving. It was kinda...disheartening. Especially when I was out of the loop like that. I wanted to know what was wrong so I could see if I could do anything to help, but every time I tried to confront someone about it, they beat around the bush and left me with more questions than answers. I don't really mean to be calling anyone out here. I enjoyed my time in Driftwood, but I personally think the guild could have lasted if there was better communication. By the seven hells, I didn't even know the guild was closing down on the 16th until I logged in to the game a day before. I wasn't the most active guild member, I know that. It turned out more tough than I imagined to balance playing with my RL friends (who only want to run dungeons and stuff) and RPing. It was sad to see it go. I tried sticking with the RP scene for the past few days, but the community is pretty much dead especially with guilds like Wayward Star going to Balmung. All that remains are very closed off cliques. If you ask me, I say go for Balmung instead of Gilgamesh at this point if you want to center your playtime around RP. Otherwise, Gilgamesh may provide a better casual RP atmosphere, but it is "EX mode" to get into the community now. The last few events posted on the Gilgamesh board weren't even really RP events but a PVE guild trying to recruit people into their rosters.
  2. I. Basic Info Characters: Tarras Jensyn Primary character: See above Linkshells: Driftwood Coast II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Medium to heavy. I'm definitely not the type to be IC 24/7, but RP is a bigger focus to me than the ol' Duty Finder. I played GW2 pretty much just for the RP. Views on RP combat and injuries: Combat is fun stuff when pulled off right. I don't believe in killing off characters though unless OOC'ly, you decided that you're done for good with RPing that particular character. Godmodding and metagaming are no-nos, naturally. While the more detail, usually the better, drawn out fights can get pretty tiresome. I try to go for concise fights when I get into RP combat situations. With injuries, I usually go with the flow of the fight unless someone is wanting to chop off my arm or something. Views on IC romance: Romance...I'm not against it. I've had bad experience with it in the past though. As long as it happens naturally and ties into the respective characters' stories, then it's fine. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Family RP is awesome! In GW2, I played a pair of sisters, but I always wished that I had an actual player to RP one of them so that they both could be out at the same time. While I originally envisioned Tarras as an only child who also really doesn't have any familial ties, I would be open to giving her a family if someone really wanted to do that with me. Views on lore: I try to stay in line with the lore as much as possible. It is the one common ground that I feel RP communities should share so that the stories can consistent with one another and make the community that much more connected. Otherwise, you get a guy saying he just teleported from Vana'diel to save the world. Slight alterations to lore are alright though. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Most of my RP happens in /say or through /em. In /tell, I put quotations around whatever I say whenever I'm RPing. No quotations means I'm OOC'ly whispering you. Linkshells I see as the cell phones of Eorzea more or less. III. Other Info Country:USA Timezone:Central Contact info: Here or in Eorzea!
  3. I went to this event. Being new to this game and the RP community, I've been trying to get out to as many RP events as I can since it's been tough finding people to RP with. I felt something was amiss though when I started seeing this event get nearly spam-advertised in Coerthas general chat earlier that evening. When I got to the event, instead of the moderate size I was expecting, there were people everywhere. That's not a bad thing, but it didn't seem like hardly anyone was RPing besides sitting on the benches and the occasional person walking by. The vibe I got was much like Kyrrae's where it felt like this was an event to recruit for PVE purposes instead of RP. I left before the event finished.
  4. This sounds like a lot of fun. I will most likely be there!
  5. Thanks for the welcome! Actually, I'm already on Gilgamesh.8-) A little birdie told me that the best time to get your spot is around 6 AM CST which was easy for me since that's about the time I get up.
  6. Hello, I'm Tarras! I love writing and playing video games, so that's how I wound up here. Here's some more info about me! MMORPG background: Final Fantasy XI, Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Age of Conan, City of X, Perfect World, Runescape, SWTOR, Guild Wars 2, and finally, FFXIV. RP experience: I started roleplaying through forums actually for specific communities (Nintendo and ATLA to name a few). I always thought of it as a giant fanfic. I finally made the jump to RPing in online games when GW2 came out a year and a half ago. Then I tried to jump back into WoW to RP there since I always liked the lore of Azeroth, but I didn't have much luck there. How did you learn about the coalition? I googled "FFXIV RP". What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Somewhere around medium I think? Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? I work in an office answering phones all day. I also am in college. My hobbies include writing, drawing, playing video games, and sometimes singing when I'm alone. Other stuff I'd like to note! I like RPG games a lot. If I'm not gaming, I'm probably watching funny stuff and/or anime...or maybe writing if I'm feeling super-productive. I'm pretty easy-going and I hope to make some new friends here and in-game!
