1. Howdy partners! M'rakhi here to give you another monthly update! Recruitment Jackal and Hide is still open for recruitment! If anyone is interested, please feel free to poke any of our officers, or apply On our site. Events With the start of new adventures in the Far East, the Jackals were invited by Gilbert and Klynk to join in an annual religious ritual to honour the Kami of the sea. After a test of agility to catch a particularly evasive bird around a pit, the Jackals were set against a large sea monster, as a precursor to a larger fight wherein the Jackals were pitted against one another to win the great sum of 1,000,000 gil. Bruised and battered, the Jackals came out victorious, with Quinthel as the last man standing. A second adventure in the Ruby sea brought the salvage company to recover smuggled Doman goods. After a particularly stormy start on a fishing boat, due to the unwillingness of paying the Ruby Tithe, the Jackals found themselves faced with an exceptionally friendly group of Imperial soldiers that happily pointed them in the direction their cargo had ended up. Once there, a mighty battle erupted wherein an Imperial abomination had nigh on cleaved the entirety of the crew. In the end, the Jackals secured the cargo and made their way back home. Not much later were the Jackals called further into Doma, to Yanxia, to investigate an issue of the Adventurers’ Guild being on the Garlean payroll. Under the guise of a fake leve, they infiltrated Yanxia and confirmed there was corruption at play. It was then that the Imperials realised the jig was up, and sprung an ambush, leaving Zaoka and Quinthel badly injured, despite back-up being sent. To avoid losses, the Jackals retreated to Kugane to convalesce. After much international work, the Jackals then enjoyed a night together at the Sunny Seas mansion. With meals provided by Quinthel, they shared tales and took pleasure in being pampered for a night. Good company was to be had, until at the end of the eve’ the salvage company reconvened in their meeting room, where they planned a heist in an Imperial castrum. It wasn’t long until that plan was executed. Gilbert brought the Jackals to Yanxia, while Klynk ran rampant trying to distract some of the sentry in the Doman castrum, the others prepared for an infiltration. Wearing the uncomfortable colours of the Imperials, they made for the castrum. Inside, they took what they wanted with force and deception, leaving a dangerous explosion in their wake. Meanwhile in Eorzea, M’rakhi Tia, a private detective, hired the salvage company for some much needed aid. Investigating a cult of some sorts, they made for a church in Thanalan, where they stuffed the freshly-risen ashkin back into their graves. After a rigorous sacrificial ritual, they gained entry to the basement bellow, where they encountered the cultists they were sent to investigate. A battle ensued, which concluded with Sagra turning to her companions and cutting them down one by one, afore being taken down herself. And that's all for this month's update! Thank you all for reading! Until next time, and take care o7 You can follow the JH leadership at http://righthererightzao.tumblr.com – Zaoka Aloka https://thebaileymail.tumblr.com/ - M'rakhi Tia http://keeperslovebetrayal.tumblr.com – Thya Kahzuun
2. Probably best to ignore the fact that Gosetsu arrived in a dinghy. With the fastest ship and the most favorable sailing conditions, it takes at least two months to make the journey from the Ruby Tide (the sea on Doma's coast separating it from Hingashi) to the Rhotano Sea/Strait of Merlthor. ________________________________ A couple reasons, actually. The first is that there's another continent to the west which blocks any direct route from Vylbrand to Hingashi. Even eighty years after the western continent's discovery, Mamook remains largely unexplored and it's unclear if any explorer has attempted to sail around the continent to reach the Far East. -More lore on Mamook, the New World can be found here. The second, to the west of Vylbrand is the Indigo Deep or Sahagin territory. While Merlwyb discovered a more safe route to Mamook from Limsa Lominsa, sailing across this expanse is still quite perilous, as the Sahagin are highly territorial and have no qualms sinking ships for spoils. Before Merlwyb's charts to the western continent, this lead to many many ships lost in the Deep. It eventually provoked Limsa Lominsa to forge a peace treaty with the kobold so that they could focus their war efforts against the Sahagin. A massive fleet of Barracuda and pirate ships set sail to go to war with the Sahagin, but the fleet was decimated and the operation ended in failure. There's also the distance. While we don't know exactly how far away from Vylbrand Mamook is, we do know Ketenramm's original expedition to the new world lasted three years and Merlwyb's later expedition lasted over a year. So we can guesstimate nearly a month and a half or two months voyage? Then to find a way around the continent, and press on to the Far East, which would be another incredibly long journey according to Haragin Xaela legend. In short, the shortest point of travel to the Far East from Vylbrand is to sail south from Galadion Bay beneath Cape Deadwind and travel northeast across the Sea of Ash to the Jade Sea and the Bounty beyond. Most trade ships would likely resupply in Radz-at-Han on Thavnair, then press southeast towards Greylic's Bend, finally turning north towards the Ruby Tide and to Doma or Kugane. Hope this helps! ^^ That actually helps so much! Thanks Sounsyy, you're the best! :>
3. Hi friends o7 So, I've been DM'ing a series events for my FC, which'll take us to Kugane (like many of you). Anyway, I vaguely heard somewhere the journey there would take some 2 months, but then Gosetsu made his comical entrance on a $*ing fishing boat. So, I'm not really sure how to go about this now, whether to leave it as something ambiguous or not. Also, why would we travel east from Vesper Bay (where all the Domans arrived), when we could just go west from La Noscea, to reach Kugane?
4. Thank you all for answering my question! Looks like Jamie'll be getting some tats and some neat little side effects with it.
5. Right-o, Jay here, new to the FFXIV RPing community. When decided on being an Arcanist, I, naturally, scoped out bits and pieces of lore about them. I had read that Arcanists channel their magic through the magical ink in their grimoires (said ink being rare; hence why there aren't libraries filled to the brim with Arcanist books) and the spell takes effect. However, could the aforementioned magical ink possibly be used in tattoos? One would create a tattoo of a single geometrical design; allowing them to do one spell without their books - would this be feasible?
