I try to be pretty flexible and bend some aspects of Nyx in order to get a plausible setting for RP. She's pretty much keeps to herself and avoids crowds but if there's an event I think is really interesting, I'll come up with a reason she would attend. Most of the time I can come up with something. I get the whole "We should RP sometime" thing too. I like to have a reason the characters are interacting or else it tends to fall into the small-talk realm of "Oh hey, funny seeing you here" kind of thing. It doesn't need to be anything epic or sweeping, just the tiniest of hooks. Most of the time the people I chat with about this are totally fine with hashing it out for 2 seconds and coming up with some starting hook that would fit both our characters. I like the idea of thinking in big general umbrellas and narrowing it down if needed.

OP, thanks so much for this thread. I'm really glad I'm not the only one. I usually play healers in MMOs. But sometimes I take things so seriously and worry if I mess up in a dungeon that makes me a horrible player. And in this game, where a lot of PUGs demand perfection, I used to make myself sick over it and I almost let those bad wipes chase me out of the game. But the best thing I did was take a time out to explore other classes. I absolutely fell in love with the Rogue/Ninja class and am having a blast. It was never a class that was at the top of my list when I started playing but I'm glad I decided to give it a go. Something about it just clicked with me. I find I'm more confident in groups and enjoy dungeons a heck of a lot more. That's not to say I won't one day pick up the healer again but sometimes the best thing is just a change of perspective. It's not a failure to take some time to find your niche.

Nyx did a double take the first time she saw one. Now she's mostly just curious. Where did they come from? Why did they all show up all of the sudden? Are things that bad in their homeland that they had to immigrate in droves? She's quietly observing and learning all she can.

Nyx is afraid of open water. The idea that there are unknown depths where gods knows what is living down there. She hates traveling in any kind of ocean vessel and will do everything she can to avoid it. How do they cope? For the most part, she doesn't. She'll gladly take an airship or travel the long way around in order to avoid boarding a ship. How do people respond to their fear? Those who know about it think it's utterly hysterical that a rogue based in Limsa Lominsa and charged with keeping order among pirates is afraid of the ocean. Do you think one day they could be cured of there fear? Maybe? With enough exposure. It might help if she took the time to learn to swim.

Hey all! I've been poking around the site and am finally just getting around to introducing myself. I'm still fairly new to FFXIV and the game mechanics (not to mention the lore!) but I've been RPing for about 10 years now. --MMOPRGs I started off with EQ2 and have played that for several years but I've also dabbled in a few since then; Aion (for a very short time) and Rift. But when I find an MMO I really enjoy I tend to stick with it for the long haul, especially if I can find a good group of people to play with. --RP experience Writing is a fun hobby of mine. I've always liked keeping a backstory in my mind for my gaming characters so when I stumbled across RP in EQ2, I was hooked. Now MMOs just feel flat if I don't RP and add depth to my character. --Character Ideas I play a Highlander named Aislinn North. She's a former Ala Mhigan who then became a refugee in Ul'dah. She's since managed to climb her way out from the poverty that plagues most refugees and has no intentions of falling back into it. For that reason, she's particularly driven to take almost any sort of honest work that comes her way. In fact, she always seems to be working at one thing or another, rarely can she be found idle or relaxing. Stubborn streak aside, she's the easy-going sort with a predilection for books and the knowledge contained therein, specifically as it pertains to white magic. --How did you hear about the Coalition? After downloading FFXIV I immediately started to poke around looking for any RP sites and found this one! --What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy?
