  1. These changes were more significant than I think anyone was expecting, but also completely necessary, if the party is being put together with Duty Finder. Looking over everything, T6-T8 now seem to be a level where it is entirely possible for a group of strangers to become familiar with the mechanics and beat it in one session, as opposed to several (ragequit) sessions later. It won't be faceroll easy as some people on the forums suggest, but with a lot of the one-shot mechanics dialed down (some of them where failing the mechanic meant killing your whole raid) people will get farther into the fight and hopefully snag a clear. I am sad only Turn 9 was left intact, but the 'glory' of SCoB's difficulty still lives on in my memories, nothing will change my team's weeks of tears, laughter, and joy while we threw ourselves against it. Meanwhile, there are a lot of people in my FC who want to try SCoB but were put off by the difficulty; with this, we can more easily get them in there and teach them the turns. There is really important story content in Coil that should be accessible to everyone (and I think the fights are fun). All around, these were good changes. And hey, with Turn 7 being virtually a completely different fight, maybe we can convince our bard to farm it with us again. ;D
  2. I'm going through a similar dance of eggshell-stepping as I prep Miryn's backstory as an ex-Ishgardian knight. There's a good pool of Ishgard lore to fish from with the Coerthas side quests and the recent main scenario stuff that I feel comfortable playing around with it, but who knows what Heavensward will bring. There's a good chance her background will contradict something, and I'm steeling myself for it. Mainly, I am unsure how villainous the Dravanians actually are, and I'm hesitant to take Miryn's personal plot in the direction I have in mind until I find out. I'm just hoping right now I can keep her situation vague enough to suit any possible RP partners, at least until expac.
  3. My FCmate has the surname Bismarck and she likes to joke about dropping loot or killing us pesky adventurers. Or make whale noises in FC chat.
  4. *Peers at Ryoko's profile* Oh, snap. I haven't even gotten onto the server yet and I'm scared. D: I'm looking forward to it!
  5. Greetings! I've been playing FFXIV:ARR since early access last year and have just recently been bitten by the RP bug. My background is forum play-by-post, starting out on a Harry Potter board (don't laugh), then a Naruto board (please don't laugh), then going into original high fantasy boards over the last few years. I've kind of lost the drive to write the long meaty paragraphs typical of the boards I hung out in; MMO RP seems more bite-sized and fast-paced and I'd love to give that a try. At the moment I'm still leveling the alt I'll be shipping over to Balmung, and haven't decided on a character yet. I'm leaning towards a gladiator-turned-paladin or a former Ishgardian knight, as I'm very fond of warrior types. Can anyone offer insight into the two choices? Any tips, warnings, or general advice would be greatly appreciated. Hope to see you guys soon!
