  1. Thanks very much for the kind words! I'm happy you enjoyed the music
  2. Eddard doesn't have any though I feel it'd be fun if he had some cute little thing follow him around for a time. He'd get to act all gruffy and pretend it wasn't the damned cutest thing he'd ever seen as it playfully prodded his leg in an attempt to get his attention. It probably wouldn't be permanent though it'd be enjoyable.
  3. I. Basic Info Characters:Eddard Holt Primary character:Eddard Holt Linkshells:Open RP, Roleplaying Connections, Hugs & Cake Primary RP linkshell:Hugs & Cake II. RP Style [*] Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): If time were to ever permit, I'd love to put in the effort to be a heavy RPer. Unfortunately, it doesn't since I am both busy and also like to actually play the game. So, I consider myself a medium RPer. I am certainly a fan of writing/participating in deeper plots and character development but I might not be in those as often as others.I do tend to make long posts but will trim down if the partner wants. Views on RP combat and injuries: Combat is fun. I like fighting. It's a good time. In terms of how it's done, I'm fine with deciding things OOC if needed; rolls don't need to be used (even if I prefer them) though I will request them if a serious disagreement is inbound. When I DM NPC vs PC encounters, it's a near guarantee that rolls will be used. As for injuries, they happen happen. This is especially apparent when rolls are being used since it may force our characters into injured states (which is something I love about it). I am in absolutely no way against this. I am not one to shy away from letting my character feel some pain. Views on IC romance: I'm a big mush so I have a huge soft spot of IC relationships and romance. Seeing one's character build friendships is nice but watching love bud is enjoyable. It may take a bit to get to such a point with my characters, especially Eddard, though the venture to that point is often fun to RP. When it comes to the more physical side of it, I do have limits. I will only RP out so many details about alone time before requesting a "fade to black" sort of thing. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): This has never really been a preferred avenue of mine. I do like making characters with my friends in mind, maybe collabing a bit to decide they're long time friends or whatever. I also like making new characters alongside a friend to have them be partners of some sort, but that means I need to have a sizable trust in you. I've never made a character related to another player's character, but if I did, that trust would need to be ten fold since that is a very heavy relationship role to play. Views on lore: Lore is the foundation of all this role-playing that we do. Without the in-depth lore this universe (or any other) presents us, RP would potentially become far more chaotic and inconsistent since there'd be no guideline to say what can or cannot be in the world of Eorzea. Obviously, I think the lore should be respected when RPing. But, I am not against some slight lore bending/making so long as no pre-existing lore contradicts what you say. If you're writing a plot and you're filling in a detail about a certain monster that the game doesn't give much lore on then that's fine. It just needs to be believable and not outlandish. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I love linkshells. I think they're really cool to use for RP. They have the obvious use of IC contact for official business. Looking for a group to complete a job, an officer speaking with his recruits, etc. But it also gives a quick medium for lighter RP. Just simple banter between characters to build some relationships while we're working on the Main Scenario or gathering or what not. I think they're delightfully versatile. [*] III. 4. Thank you all for your interest. I'm happy to see this garnered interest and am also happy I now have the time to see it all done. After Kyor'a's theme was done, I put a hold on writing as I worked two jobs and clocked more hours than my tired body would prefer to build my bank account a bit. I'm back down to one job now so the music making has returned at full force! that being said, Daiyu's theme was bumped out pretty quickly. What Daiyu mentioned in her form that had the biggest impact in this piece is the request for viola specifically because Daiyu both relates to and plays the instrument. With that in mind, I found it fitting to have the piece be a viola solo. The thought of a character being able to perform their own character theme (though they would not likely call it as such) seemed pretty interesting, so I had my starting point. Then it evolved into what you shall now hear. I hope you enjoy! Lost Thoughts Next up is Shala Finfright! I have a party to throw tomorrow, so expect a poke from me on Monday!
  5. It isn't mandatory, but commission for the piece would be very, very appreciated. No matter what the task, it's always better when you get paid for doing it It would also bump your piece up to the top of the waiting list (I should probably mention that in the OP...). What that commission would be would be entirely dependent on what you want for the piece. For example, a solo piano piece would cost less than a full orchestra piece. And yes, Steel. I PayPal, bro.
  6. So! After too long of a break, I'm opening this up again. I'm offering my services to anybody that would like to have a theme for their character. If you think that your toon having their own theme would be pretty damn cool (and I think it would be pretty damn cool), then this is the place to go to make it happen. I just got my hands on a lot of new tools to use so I'll be able to make just about any genre of theme you'd like! Requesting Your Theme There's a form to fill out at the bottom of this post that will supply me with all sorts of pivotal information. While it needn't be filled out with bountiful detail, the more you put forward about your character, the better. The goal with character themes is to describe what the character is like without words. So if someone asked, "What's Xanister like?" I should be able to just play his theme and have them get a good glimpse. A healthy dose of background will let me more precisely craft a melody to represent your character. While knowing the piece's genre is important information, knowing the personalty I need to emulate is pivotal. Once you send you form, I'll bounce the ideas I have in your direction. Once we're on the same page, I'll get to writing. If your unsure of how to describe what you want in terms of the genre/sound, I'll help you find the right words. That discussion will also lead to the answer to... Pricing After thinking hard on this tricky thing to nail, here's the guideline of how much your piece will end up costing. The creative process for one piece can go so differently from another that pinning specific prices is difficult. With that in mind, each category has a range of price, the definite number being decided on after we speak about the piece itself and I know what I'm about to craft. Factors like length, number of instruments, or complexity of the piece are what decide the price tag. For example, the "Small Ensemble - Basic" category has a range of $30-$50. If you want a more reserved and meditative piece that relies on one instrument while others sit in the back(like the one given as an example), the price tag will more likely hover around $30. If you want a more thrilling piece to capture your character's ferocity thus requiring the whole ensemble to be more complex, it'll more likely hover around the $50 mark. Keep in mind that these examples serve as a guideline but are not extremely rigid. While a piano solo is typically going to be around a minute, you could easily request a more involved solo that lasts about three minutes. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Solo Instrument With Accompaniment Price: $20 Length: 1:00 - 1:30 Instrumentation examples: Violin and piano, solo piano, flute and piano
  7. I did start in Ul'dah and actually noticed RP the second I was pulled out of the tutorial and slapped in with the rest of the community in the middle of the Quicksand. I don't plan on immediately starting RP but I surely know where to go when I want to find some later tonight. Nice and convenient hehe
  8. Hey everyone. I've been playing FFXIV a chunk o' months on the Gilgamesh server. I've had two hiatuses caused by school, the second of which is still in effect. Although I plan to go back to Gilgamesh when I graduate and plan to main one of the characters I have over there, I decided to make a character on Balmung this morning. I figure there's no reason not to try and mingle with both communities. Being new to Balmung means I have no connections, though, which is where y'all come in. If anybody could point in me in the direction of some useful connection-making linkshells (OOC or IC) then that'd be appreciated. If you also just wanna throw me a /tell for RP, that works too \o/ For those curious, my RP experience spans over 4-ish years. I'm not picky with what sort of RP I partake in so long as the company is pleasant and friendly. Drama is no fun. I've been saying for a bit that I'll begin to DM events, though things such school have gotten in the way (I'll also admit to opting to run end-game instead of following through as a result of self-doubt. I should have more backbone by the time I'm officially back). Simply put, I'll RP anything that doesn't spit in the face of lore (though I'm not one opposed to minor bending). I plan to playon my Balmung newbie for a bit tonight (logging on as I type). His name is Eddard Holt. Truth be told, I'm not sure how much I'll be on until after graduation, though I figured I'd introduce myself tonight regardless. If you're on Gilgamesh and would like to RP, that's cool too. My numerous characters are listed in my signature. I may or may not hop onto one of them tonight. It depends on how focused I end up getting on my newbie. Looking forward to meeting whoever I end up meeting!
  9. I'm writing a story where a character will become very ill in some sort of aether related way. Lore permitting, I'd like corrupted crystals to be the cause, though I can't seem to recall coming across any details with what corrupted crystals could do in that regard, if anything; I just recall them being dangerous and unstable. Would an overexposure to the corrupted crystals cause some sort of aetherical disturbance in the person? If so, would this sort of sickness be fatal? Maybe the person's aether would inherit this instability or maybe it's just a more severe strain of the already problematic "aether sickness?" Whether or not there's a definite answer, I think it's interesting to speculate on.
