Aww... Aren't there any Lala ladies? I mean... Honestly I'm afraid Siobhain's stance on even male Lalafell are that they break her 'too tiny -too delicate' rule to the max. Except maybe Shippuu but I don't think he's about on that Lala anymore. I'm sure there's a Hyur somewhere out there that can love a tiny Lala! *I thought someone said in another thread that they got a ton of Fantasias. Can't you get more than one? Unless they are tradable... But I wouldn't do that anyways. I would feel as if I cheated And that's just the thing, most people see Lala romance as fine.... As long as it's with another Lala :\ It's a bit of an akward stance that people seem to take with the smaller races of fantasy worlds. I am very much interested to hear how your character might view a relationship with a female of another race and what sort of situation might work for him, to factor his falling in love with her. As another Lala pointed out, apparently, many Lalafell cherish large families. Would yours be willing to sacrifice a large family for love? Honestly, I think you should try it as he might try it and see where it takes you. Maybe you'll find there are more people open to the idea than you think. Siobhain might even be open to a relationship with a Lalafell if she's given a good enough reason with a good enough male Lalafell. As I said in her wiki, she'd easily sacrifice physical love for true love if it existed for her. Can't say where she'll go, can't say I'd be there 100 percent, but if there's some way to view it, I'm excited to know.

Absolutely except in events. I would really rather not have people have to pick who is going to win, then let someone else win, and so on and so forth because it just doesn't sit well with me. Even in official sparring matches if both people agree to it not rolling and they know who they want to win, I suppose I can accept it. But not in events.

The most we can do, and what we should be doing, is stating if we do not agree with whosoever looks at OOC information such as a list of MMOs that someone has played and use that as our sole reason to avoid or limit our RP with them, we just don't agree. I don't feel this way. It has no influence on how I perceive people, it didn't before and now that I know it exists, it still doesn't. The community here might be enough to fulfill all those people who played other MMOs before looking for someplace to call home or maybe they played those many other games because they enjoyed the raiding and the mechanics and they're sick of being booted off a high pop server for this particular week or two. There are plenty of other reasons. At least Kylin's was one more perspective. P.S. I know this is a forum and I'm not a moderator or anyone of any importance, but if you (anyone) have a personal issue with what someone has said and it has any chance to put that person in a negative light in the eyes of another who might read this later, please, as someone who is genuinely concerned about the very shy people who STARTED this thread, take it to PMs or something. And don't get yourself booted. You're valuable and you're good, and there are more people who might need your advice-- it outweighs a lot.

I wrote a really long tangent. 'I am extremely disappointed'. I am also in line with what Lost just said. If you'd like, you can bump into cynical Sio too, or if you have a character that's combat-oriented, a healer, or a spectator, at least I can offer The Grindstone. I will help you out however I can.

Ahhhh... That's why they do that! Now I understand.

http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=4458 Here we are. I got to meet Nahv'ir ICly, and he went about it by the way of writing a letter after seeing the flyer and arranging a meeting at the Bismarck via in-game mail. You can PM me a whisper of a letter or I can pop up at a training ground and we can meet up that way if it's better for your character. Until we have a few ICly recruited members, it's going to be hard to find out about it 'by word of mouth'. I'd be happy to take all of you and I'd like to find another character or two that are willing ICly and OOCly to become Overseers for now. If you see me in the RPC but can't add me on Siobhain Surtsthalwyn in game, go ahead and try sending me a PM and I'll get on. Otherwise, if you have skype, you can add me as Jilalde and send me a message that way. Thank you guys a ton for all the great feedback. If you have any comments or critiques or ideas, you can keep posting them here or on the LS's page, linked aboooove. <3

The thing is, I was breaking my paragraphs down to maybe four lines and posting each. I guess that it must be a spamming thing. How ridiculous.
-
Has anyone else had any issues posting multiple paragraphs? Jael'il, Nahv'ir, and I are trying to RP at the moment and for some reason, though we can see our own posts when we make multi-paragraph posts (and separate them at their limit), we can't see the second or third, or sometimes even the first of eachother's posts.
-
Honestly, it never occurred to me to think of people who'd played multiple MMOs this way, before. Interesting.

IC: Fystrael slowly stops her frantic chewing to glance down at her rare Bismarck dinner; a steaming plate of wild lamb chops. She shudders as she unwilling considers how her mother may have avoided getting pregnant after skrat number four. With more haste than decorum, she pushes her plate away and signals for the waiter to bring her cheque. She'll spend the rest of her bounty in the Drowning Wench tonight, doggedly pickling her brains to cause the revolting thought to perish. OOC: Nearly spilled my milk cackling at the thought. Maybe that's how the Leatherworkers Guild makes most of its money...? Eeeeew! <3333

I personally think adding racial benefits, although logical, will end up with more complications down the line and complaints versus not having it in place. I understand that a Lalafell is merely a football to a Roe, but then the poor Lalafell would most likely lose just because of race. If a fight is unmatched or silly: it can still be amusing. I have had my character in another game KO'd by a girl tripping and hitting him with a frying pan because my roll was lower and that was my last HP. The less complicated the system: the more likely people won't feel intimidated. If it gets too above and beyond - people start to not even want to try due to the confusion of it. I wouldn't mind doing some training rounds with the rolling system to help out with figuring that out. Some of the timing matters will also be based upon pairings and how much each person types. Some will make their actions simple, others will go full detail. If there are many people participating: could always group off and have, say, four groups running at the same time (8 contestants) then the winners of those fight winners (down to 4) so that time wise, you're moving forward faster rather than one fight at a time. (Though for this, I recommend making more rooms in rolz.org instead of everyone in one) I wouldn't mind helping out or doing training /roll fights to see how they go and gauge the fights. Will toss you a friend request in game if you're on. (/great wall of text) I just finished enjoying a great bowl of cheese for some reason. Cravings are no bueno. It was actually ravioli. ANYHOW, I will pop on soon and go ahead and add you. I'm wondering if I should start looking for people OOCly to fill the Overseer slots. I'd like to have a healthy number of them and while I don't mind some of them being leaders or officers of other LSs/FCs, I'd mostly like to keep it to unbiased people who have plenty of time and interest.

This may be why there's so many female Miqo'te prostitutes, out of all the different races, their potential clients are far less likely to be of their own kind (male Miqo'te are rare, right?), which makes the chance of them getting pregnant pretty insignificant. This is of course assuming there's no contraception in Eorzea, which I think may be likely from all the STD references... Crotch rot... *shudder* You make a very good point, Jove, as per usual. I enjoy your points. That does seem like it could play a small factor in those that -choose- that route. And as long as they have lambs, they'll have contraceptives. >.<

1d100 or 1d20 will still have the same odds so completely up to you. Reason a 1d100 was used before was because there was an added crit/counter bonus for if you doubled (I'll explain in a spoiler that method as to not make this too long)

Oh ho! Thank you~
-
Oh ho? Awesome. Maybe we should use a 100, I dunno why I automatically thought 20. Nahv'ir, thank you so much for all the help. I really appreciate it. Now I'm starting to worry that I should make a website but I don't want too many things for people to have to look through for just a LS. May I copy the Miah: - Nahv'ir:- thing as an example in the directory page?
-
I share your feelings on this. The only people who need to be in the room are the competitors and their Overseer. Everyone else can just be surprised. ^.^;
-
There isn't a roll function, I realize now. If it's okay with everyone, I'm going to go with Nahv'ir's suggestion of using rolz.org. The page we'll use is http://rolz.org/group and we'll use The Grindstone as the room. I'll reiterate-- This is only for official matches and events and if there's a better way, we can do that. But in an effort to make sure it's fair and it's not a prescribed win or loss, this roll thing will be helpful.

Errhmigaw, I'm in like Flynn tonight. I hope that I'm not on too late for you guys. I usually get on around 9 PST but I can get on a bit earlier if needbe. I also made Jael'il Erisha'an a leader so if you'd like a linkshell invite before I get a chance to get on, you can contact him, otherwise we can arrange bumping into one another in one of the training areas. That's probably going to have to happen a fair bit until I find some Overseers/LS Leaders. Also I'll look into starting an FC for people who want this to be a full-time dedication for their character.
-
I admit, I was under the impression Linkshells were like guilds even though I -knew- that they were more or less channels. e.e; Silly me. This is for IC communication predominantly; if anyone has conversations that aren't IC they'll probably be in parenthesis. Also I will add that right in there. Thank you for bringing up the healer thing.

Maybe Lalas are like Roger from American Dad with super muscular legs? I'd be afraid of a single mage was maintaining all gravity. What happens if someone comes in and pokes them in the eye? Everyone floats into space?!
-
D: SAME SPECIES ROMANCE! *tackles Lost River* I think that even against biology when sentient thinking to the point of being able to communicate with other species and evolving to or past the equivalent point of modern humanity has happened, emotions and culture usurp scientific reasoning. Just because something like biology exists doesn't mean that science as we know it does. I think Magitek is a blend of science and magic, more magic than anything because-- if magic existed for us the way it does in FF wouldn't we be trying to break it apart and understand it the way science does? 'The science of magic' seems like an oxymoron until you look at the definition of the word: The intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment. If magic were part of our physical world, as it is in Eorzea and beyond, then it would probably become a science to us. But it doesn't. Gravity still exists. That's aaaaall that counts.

So far as I know, there aren't any half Hyur half Miqo'te NPCs or any mention of cross-race products. There -is- mention of it in games where it exists. I think that sort of denotes that there probably isn't much in the way of interracial breeding (or at least successfully having children)-- I mean, anywhere they talk of breeding, biology will come into play. Unless they're having babies in pods or they're made of clay and brought to life. It might not mean much but if it meant nothing they wouldn't mention anything in regards to children even existing. That's probably one of the things they actually fully related to what we -do- understand of biology (at least the reproductive/attraction portions of it because that's relevant to the topic atm) now if only because they probably didn't want to think too hard on it. What we probably don't know is just how different the other races are from Hyur and from each other. If they can't interbreed at all then they're entirely, genetically different creatures. At that point, the only things that come into play with interbreed attraction is 1. Physical characteristics that individuals have been raised to find attractive being found more often in other races 2. Love/sentiment 3. A desire to not reproduce so you'll settle for someone you won't risk will give you a litter.

Life expectancy and cultural marks. At what age do they reach maturity, culturally when do they marry (or miqo'te start to mate/breed), etc. Friend of mine suggested his female Seeker be Swift's daughter (unbeknownst to him that he has one) but that raises questions in my mind for ages. I don't know if anyone knows exactly how long any of the races live. From what I've seen in other forums, Elezen and Lalafell live the longest. Apparently Galka lived a long time in FFXI? So assumably Roegadyn still live a bit longer. So far, from the theories I've seen it's: Elezen Lalafell Roegadyn Hyur Miqo'te In terms of age lengths but the only think I can assume really is that Hyur share our average lifespans. I like to know when characters reach physical (not cultural) maturity and how long they live but I just haven't seen any definite spans.
-
On the first point, while I have to agree with you, they -are- biologically different and that should detract a bit from most interracial marriages-- but I think that that, alone, might be some of the appeal to both males and females of different races. The chances that you can cross breed a Roegadyn with an Elezen, for example, are slim to none and for those people who don't want offspring but do want that level of companionship, they have that option. Also, in game, and maybe it depends largely on the area, interracial relationships do seem somewhat common. I've seen a number of pairs: Thancred with a Miqo'te I think and an Elezen, an engaged pair of a male Roegadyn and a Midlander Hyur, not to mention all those prostitution things from another thread, random NPCs flirting-- it doesn't seem abnormal here. I believe the majority of people would prefer their own races but at the same time I don't think, for whatever reason, that most of the city-states consider interracial pairs as unexpected. I think they've been living amongst each other for far too long. You do have a good, traditional thing going on with your character with him keeping to females of his kind, which I think is brilliant. I hope plenty of characters share his feelings because while I can appreciate plenty of thought going into how a character chooses friends or mates, I'd also like to see what might be considered 'normal' or 'traditional' portrayed equally if not more.
