I Have Made A Terrible Mistake: When to Just Reroll
YesGood replied to K'dath's topic in RP Discussion
I can speak as one who has rerolled... literally... dozens upon dozens of times. In fact, in WoW I rerolled my hunter after reaching level forty about ten times alone. "Oh, I don't like this name." "Oh, poo, this face is horrible." "Hang on a second... there's a lighter green eye color on this other face?" The only thing that finally slowed me down was the barbershop and even then I had a tendency to reroll. I would get to something like 70 and start from scratch-- Got me a good amount of gold from doing it but otherwise it was a pain in the posterior. I look at Siobhain now and I think I should've just freaking made her short because every other female Roe like a foot taller than her anyway. Why did I make her so muscular? I gave her man-hips! I should've just given her long hair and been done with it. I'm going to hold out two more weeks for Fantasia to fix all these problems ICly and OOCly (sorry but Sio's gonna get shorter OOCly and buy a magical hair serum that works a little too well ICly) but it doesn't fix the common question I get in PMs. "Why the Sea Wolf name?" Admittedly, there's no reason a Hellsguard can't have a full, traditional Roegadyn name-- it's just that the majority of them opt not to based on their culture. I likely won't reroll just to fix my name as then I'll be sitting on a Fantasia I may never use and I've gotten a lot of fancy stuff I don't feel like farming again-- but if I had more time like I used to I would. -
Thank you, dearling.

I fear there is some kind of conspiracy going on, for which I will have to resort to /doze. Also, Dub, thank you a million times for your sweet words~ You are always welcome to bring Meat on down for some tender, loving, old-fashioned beat down. <3333333

Oh, okay. Would you like to be invited to the LS when the servers are back up? And/OR if you'd like to be invited ICly we have fighting event things near that bridge on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 10pm EST. Update: It let me in! Anyone else having any luck? A'khenna Khai, by the way, is our new, official recruiter. The directory page and the FC have been updated, I believe, to reflect as much. I haven't tried yet.

I'M SO SORRY. DIGIORNO IS BETTER THO. Totally welcome to visit us any time!

That's part of why I started the thread. I honestly didn't see how many pearls you handed out ICly. Is okay. Her spirit will protects joo forevah. TT_TT

Aye, sir.

Maybe they decided this was the last straw and Sio should be dead. Q_Q By all means! Super happy you guys got to see it, Val is an awesome combat RPer and I will be happy to make sure you get some sparring in as well. Our next event will be Wednesday!
-
So sorry about that, new ones! The servers went down and I don't know if they're coming back up or when they will. If you guys would like to get in touch with me for questions or anything that I wasn't able to address in game, please PM me or even better, add me to skype. If things stay down too long, I'll just have to assume that Faye's healing worked and pick things up with you guys again separately at the next available opportunity. Sorry again about that cut off and that I also don't recognize all your screen names on the forums. Q_Q;;

Cajun, as I've seen it RPed has a tendency to turn into Jamaican real quick. Generalizing is bad, I sorry, but I dunno what other names a 'Jamaican' accent goes by. I could also see it working for an Ele.
-
You could also try maybe something like a Louisiana accent. LaPlace has an interesting one-- it's not really Cajun but it's not a twang either. There are a lot of Southern accents that aren't Texan. North Carolina's got an interesting one, then there's the Georgia drawl, etc. etc.

Of course you ain't bad!

I'm semi-up there with the wrong-doers. Siobhain makes a... lot... of... faces. Her facial expressions and body language are 80% of what makes her, her. Some people who have known her for a while now, as PLAYERS may not read what their CHARACTERS would recall. Like, they've seen this behavior before, several times, but they had a hard work day IRL so they're just taking things at face value. I don't write 'This is ridiculous' she thinks to herself, very often simply because Sio is hard to read. Siobhain goes rigid, her shoulders squaring at the stranger's touch on her bicep. Immediately, the muscles of her jaw begin to work, her teeth grinding audibly behind a tight-lipped scowl. This is what she does when Miqo'te touch her. It's intended that Miqo'te who don't know her will take this as intimidating or threatening behavior, a negative response, when in fact this is her embarrassed face. If there are people around who -are- familiar with her, I might add: This familiar expression belies her otherwise unvoiced discomfort. Now. A Miqo'te might somehow be able to tell that she was embarrassed rather than anger and menacing, which isn't how it's supposed to be. Some people dun see that line. I leave it open to interpretation and roll with it however I must. I don't mind seeing people pop up 'blahblahblahthoughtbubbleblah' because they're usually doing it in conjunction with a facial expression that already shows they've got a problem. Simply narrows down the cause. If Siobhain knows someone well, and they do something like Blah grimaces faintly. In response to something else, she'll have generic concern. If they go the route Blah grimaces faintly, thinking to Blah's self 'This is embarrassing.' That grimace would vastly differ from Blah grimaces faintly, thinking to Blah's self 'Gods, my ribs are killing me.' Could handle it differently, yes, by going into detail about favoring on side or blushing. OR you could use the thoughts for direction rather than detail. I, personally, don't mind either way. I will say though, I find it difficult to adapt to constant thought-bubbling with little to no detail or context otherwise. Sio's not a psychic.

Hope I'm doing this right... Character Name:Siobhain Surtsthalwyn aka 'Cold Flame' Hells/Sea?: Hellsguard Gender:Female Timezone: EST Looking for?: Rivals/Friends/Allies/Enemies/Father/Mother/...Chil...dren...? Server: Balmung http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Siobhain_Surtsthalwyn 2. Does your character fit the 'common' lore of your Roegadyn or are they singular? (Eg. Raised by hyur so does not understand X or Y = singular) Yes, for the most part. Siobhain is a traditional Hellsguard whose maternal line still cherishes their familial naming conventions, much like Sea Wolves. She has a number of 'cultural' adherences and beliefs, though since there isn't anything to confirm them in the lore, I maintain that she has picked them up from her family and from what her mother has told her, so, they could very well have familial origins and not traditional origins. For example, Siobhain refers to -all- Roegadyn regardless of clan as 'sister' or 'brother' and differentiates them by 'sea' or 'stone'. She also approaches relationships in a monogamous mindset-- but she adheres to giving her eldest male relative the right to fight her prospective mate. Likewise, she takes it upon herself to establish some form of dominance, or at least display her strength, amongst other female Roegadyn-- not to chase them away but to show where she stands in the local hierarchy. Finally, she will fight any and all suitors and often expects that other women will do the same regardless of their race as that rule, of all of them, seems to make the most logical sense. 3. What are your Rp limits, if any? (Eg: no permadeath, no ERp etc) I have no limits... Perma-death and ERP are a-okay with me. LIMIT BREAKER! (Regina / Female / Eastern Standard Time)

Lost River is the uber-hawt. Hands down beats Sio.
-
I also have a question: Paladin heals, like for Sultansworn... Is there a lore-based explanation behind them?

I have to get on a little late so I'll be on around 9 or 10 EST after I've put my son to bed. Q_Q But hurray!

Hello there! I started a combat Link Shell that has turned out magnificently; love the people we got and the people who show up to our events. They are all spectacular RPers. So, gushing aside, there was one thing that troubled me with only having an open LS for my character-- fighting only gets you so far. ICly, Siobhain and many of the Overseers in the Grindstone have moved forward, accumulating their funds to begin a Free Company also named the Grindstone under which the LS is now sanctioned to train however they would like. Paid that 15 k gil, put in that petition (and we handled as much of this ICly as we could, considering the NPCs are... well... NPCS.) The Free Company exists for homeless, wayward fighters, aspiring warriors, and those in general need of freedom and sanctuary. We will continue offering training ICly to our members and we even offer services to other FCs and LSs (a link for details can be found at the bottom of my signature.) I know we have new people coming in every day to Balmung and I feel pretty confident from the feedback I've received thus far that these trusted, patient, awesome RPers we have in the LS and the FC will be able to give you some help in developing a combat oriented or interested character. SO: For those of you who are having troubling coming up with your character's history and are looking for a pleasant FC to be in (or even our LS), I will be MORE than happy to help you with your background story with the basis upon which our FC is built. - If you have a character in need of short to long term sanctuary, we can offer you a home and/or a contract in order to get you started, protecting your character from any bandits, thugs, or organized groups from their history until they choose to leave in exchange for loyalty, contribution, payment, or work. - If your character is an indentured servant, slave, or otherwise restricted fighter (such as a pit-fighter or a forced sellsword) the Grindstone would be able to take your character in as well, for as long as necessary and hopefully permanently. - If your character is a refugee or otherwise impoverished but has a passion for fighting and a desire to improve their lives, we can offer housing, training, food, and eventually jobs. If you intend to choose any of these backgrounds or might be interested in going this route when you begin and you're interested in joining an FC, I'd be happy to help you write up and develop your background ICly and OOCly. I don't intend to start an epidemic of people who start out as slaves and turn into legends, but I do want to help any and every new RPer as much as possible. There are plenty of other great FCs out there, but if getting into the nitty gritty of combat and honor is -your- character's thing, I totally got you. I love this idea mostly because I would have liked to do it myself. Starting out with nothing and building yourself up -in- roleplay with other RPers is always a spectacular feeling for me. If there's anyone who would like to see if we can offer you that experience, this is for you. I'm also open to suggestions on what changes those outside or inside the LS/FC might like to see in order to improve the goals, story, and experience. Please keep critiques you might have tactful; I'd do it for you 'cus I like joo so much.

It's so depressing to me that you're over on Gilgamesh! I know it's a great server with awesome people but your character Blessed Shield seems like he could be Cold Flame's brother-from-another-mother. Q_Q Maybe he is the real Clear Sky/Klarimel and this guy pretending to be Cold Flame's brother is just a cruel, cruel fellow.

UPDATED: Current champion is Fystrael Abylstyrwyn! Great turn-out on Saturday, I look forward to seeing you all again on Wednesday! (We also passed 40 members in the LS, all recruited in character! Wonderful!) *Remember, we are more than happy in the Grindstone to teach you, ICly (and OOCly) how to fight. If you have any concerns about how you'll do, rest assured that we can help you, all you need to do is ask!

Ahgad~ If our (Grindstone) event doesn't have enough willing participants, I'll likely show up. Q_Q Want to.

That's very true. I've yet to meet a troll that I've acknowledged who hasn't, when confronted politely, agreed to leave or even apologized. This situation pains me; I'm happy you helped him but I feel that it must have hurt his feelings so much that people just ignored him back when he needed help. I always hope for better when I think of RPers, and of course I feel that those who neglected to reach out to him were exceptions to the rule. I hope at least. I'm never going to get mad over trolls because I know that many of them aren't just looking to be jerks, they're just doing things because they don't always realize how much it means.

Those are some pretty good questions, most of which I have no answer for. I know that each race must have had their own language at some point and I wonder if maybe they only kept words and names? In a sense, Roegadyn are fairly easy compared to others, except maybe Hyur and Elezen (French) where you can put some words together using their naming conventions. But Roegadyn don't seem to have any accents that would imply that their native tongue is heavy. So confused...
