Just got back from a business trip, so now to resume my search (y'know, for the couple of days I have before I leave for vacation). I've also heard there's an RP LS somewhere, but I haven't been able to figure out what it's called or who even is in it to contact them. But I'll definitely keep an eye out for you! Haha, no worries. But to answer your question, since it was a good one, I'm not particularly picky. Especially since I have no idea how many RP linkshells there might be on Siren. But I'd prefer an OOC/networking Linkshell rather than an IC/organization-based one.

Hello! I recently rolled a new character on Siren, mainly because my sister and I got tired of all our friends giving up on getting on Balmung in order to play with us. But I heard there's an rp community around there somewhere. Can anybody point me to an LS? Mainly looking for an LS over a FC right now since I'll likely join an FC with my non-rp friends. Hello there! So, I've been a lurker on the forums for a long time, and even participated here and there back when 1.0 and then ARR first launched. I haven't really rped in game in quite a while, though I've been wanting to get back into it lately. I kind of lost track of my character concept over time (with some long hiatuses and outleveling where I feel he was experience-wise, I've been kind of torn on what I've wanted to do with him), so I've been thinking of kind of rewriting him and reintroducing him. I play N'klas Tia, a Mi'qote Arcanist on Balmung. I ended up maining scholar and white mage, however, instead of summoner which was what I had planned. Are there any OOC networking linkshells floating about? I already have a free company with some friends, so looking more for linkshells to network with.

Bad timing for me, cause I'm gonna be away on vacation a week starting tomorrow, but I do have an alt with a still living family (currently unnamed). She's 16, her name is Emelin Locke and she comes from a wealthy merchant family with a caravan traveling to the different city-states. She ended up running away from home to pursue dreams of becoming an adventurer and is currently wandering around Ul'dah, rather lost, and trying to learn thaumaturgy. But she's very young, naive, sheltered and tends to look at things as if they're a story, so she's a bit disconnected from reality. So, if you were interested, it could be fun to have her mother or father or I could even be cool with dropping a sibling in there for her as well. Or if you were interested in getting involved with her some other way. Oh right, and she's a Hyur, so you don't have to worry about rolling another race.

I love the Acolyte's Set I got from the first few dungeons. Grinded them for a couple of days to finally get the body piece. Alas, N'klas can't actually wear it IC yet, but I'll save it for the days when he can!

Vermont is awesome. Went to college up there and I miss it so incredibly much. But welcome and have fun here.

I was also surprised to see no reference to the gemstones in the Arcanist storyline so far, or from any npcs at the guild. But since it's on the official site, that's what I went with for N'klas' backstory. The gem angle is fairly important to him. I wouldn't mind it being at least referenced in-game at some point. However, as for the question at hand, I think it'd be fine to go either way. Perhaps it could be seen that the whole writing animation is required if the Arcanist doesn't actually have a gemstone on hand to draw from. My view on Arcanist spellwork is that the power is in the symbols themselves rather than the actual book. The book is just handy, because it contains this vast library of symbols already so the Arcanist doesn't normally need to actively draw them out on the fly in battle. Which could also lead to some fun ideas of maybe larger spellwork (for rp purposes) being possible by actively drawing out large geometric symbols to whatever purpose. But I do like the idea Roda brought up of the writing out in the grimoires acting as a catalyst. So maybe I'd use that if the person didn't have a gemstone handy for the more complex summoning spell. Or writing out symbols is better for more potent spells. But it's just not something that's usually all that feasible in battle. That's my personal take on it at least.

Man, that SweetFX thing is really nice. I've spent the last hour playing with settings for it until I found something I think I like. Not quite beta, but a character I had made in the benchmark that I couldn't get in game with Balmung being closed and all. Here she is with my graphics all tweaked. And for comparison, the before shot. Looking forward to this weekend so I can see how this looks in action and in more areas/lighting.

Was playing fine for a while, but I just got kicked. Now I'm getting a "World data could not be obtained. Please try logging in again later," error. Well, guess this would be a good time to make lunch.

I can't promise I'll be incredibly responsive for a while today, since I'm technically working from home so I'll be going back and forth between work and play.
