I am a bit scared of the things I've heard of Balmung "always being in character". So in response to that, you have to make sure you have a character that you love everything about because EVERYTHING is in character and it would be hard to "set a scene" as I usually do on Brynhildr. The reason why I want to know some people is I want to know what I'm getting into and it's always more fun to actually have some other PCs tied in with you as it's a "hook" to draw you into roleplay. It's always nice to HAVE friends, particularly if you find it hard to MAKE friends. I only made the friends I did on Brynhildr by randomly accepting an FC invite and those friends led me to build an RP community there with them. Reading through these forums though, I am wondering about "NPCing" and what that entails... :? And how you should go about looking for RP on Balmung? Should you start a character in Ul'Dah to get to the Quicksand quicker? Do you /sh for RP or is that frowned on? Should you party finder? These are reasons why I'm hesitant about Balmung because I want to integrate into a group, not alienate from one! I really want to know what I'm getting into, and Balmung's hype makes it seem like an alien world.

I actually was looking through those and my sister FC Black Label Society has a post up there. I've done my homework on things, with a character from Ala Mhigo I am glad she was only 5 when the city was sacked so I really don't have to know much more about it! I looked up as much as possible so that I could tie her story in perfectly about who her parents were before she killed them and little things like that. And some of my new concepts are perfect for entering into a new RP group and starting fresh, and while Balmung is very shiny It's a daunting task to enter!:dazed: Being on a different data center from my main is also a concern, so I really do want to find a group and create characters to JOIN that group instead of making characters and blindly looking for a group (although in the case of Balmung, that may be the best option)

I don't know if anyone has brought up Odin, but the story implied that Odin appears regularly like he does without any worshippers because of being tied to Zantetsuken and the sword takes over anyone hapless enough to pick it up and possesses that person and then slowly drinks up Aether until he can fully manifest again Might be a good angle to work with.

I am also experiencing some troubles with this with my 3 level 50 characters all made for their backstory with defininitive personal goals. One I have a solution for that works perfectly for her as a character... the other two? I'm going to have to come up with something... My main, Terrini, hasn't been fun to play for a while, and it has had a lot to do with the fact that she was landed with leadership of a free company that she never wanted or expected - this free company was made within the roleplay by another roleplayer and my character joined and supported the company - in fact, all three characters I'm having troubles with were the founding members of this company and the fact that the creator of the company left without a word to another server saddling me with it was something that did not just affect me out of character but in character as well. Terrini can be seen in my roleplays to be struggling valiantly with the responsibility, and worked really hard to accomplish the goal of getting a large house for the company to act as a base, a home for the wanderers and nomads, and after that happened, things started to fall apart because I didn't know how to lead a company and it just got to the point where me and my alts were the only people logging in. Throughout this process, Terrini had a boyfriend and they finally got married recently and now all her personal goals are done (get married and be able to settle in a personal home in Gridania has always been her goal, before personal housing was even available). So I am giving FC leadership to another and am "retiring" Terrini. She may come back one day and get involved with her friends, but she's being put out to pasture for RPing until further notice since I just don't RP her much anymore... The next person screwed over by the original leader jumping servers is Deianera. She had an AWESOME roleplay relationship with him. He was strong and ambitions and goal oriented and really warmed my cold mercenary's heart with how much she admired him. And then he disappeared without a word and she went back to ice. Her own roleplay story ended up with her killing her only friend as well, because of a promise she had made. All of this resulting in her leaving the company she helped to create because she wasn't able to prevent the dark roleplays that happened there (all other character storylines) and so she decided to make a change and go to the other RP company. Deianera, though, is a hard character to play. She doesn't open up to people very well, is very cynical and she doesn't make friends easily (only with people that have a similar jaded personal view). She needs to get involved, but she needs to have someone to play off of to do that!! There are a few possibilities but I don't want to steal options from other people arbitrarily, that's no fun... so she's in quite a quandary. She's fun to play as the stoic cynic, but only when there is someone to play off of that. Finally there's Sakha, and she's now kinda stuck as a bookkeeper for the free company with no other avenues available to her. Her defining premise was built around the hope of playing with a friend of mine as her brother, but he ended up not getting into it and Sakha's been on a "never-ending quest to find her brother". Up for random RP "Oh, I was just in the area looking for my brother." There's only so much you can do with that, and the bookkeeper thing at least has given her something to play off of besides her brother, but with the activity level of the company... not working so well lately. A friend even thought to surprise me and made a new character as her brother. I had no clue and was shell-shocked and it took a couple months for me to even accept it enough to try and initiate a roleplay about it and when I suggest it, he says that he won't be able to follow through because of his main character goals for Heavensward, so it seems that little bit of development is retconned and she's back to being a bookkeeper looking for love, but the only one interested is a lesbian that just doesn't connect with Sakha on a personal level. They're similar in some ways, but way too different in others. I've tried to start conversations about this with the RP linkshell, but it seems whenever I say "RP" it just seems to be "not with me" or better for my more light-hearted alts to enter into things because their purpose is not in the story behind them but instead how they interact with the world, so it's easy to just throw them in anywhere, while my main 3 need to have a reason because of being weighed down by their stories and personal goals. I love these characters and put a lot of work into them, and they're all beautiful to me and I'm proud of them but another part of me is saying that there isn't really anything left for them... It'd kinda depressing...

I'm an altaholic for RP and since I'm near capped on Brynhildr and am a major face promoting the Rp there, I am in a conundrum. I'm looking to expand my RP social network onto a new server, but I want to have a community that's existing to join and have fun with, and the Eorzea's Next Top Model crew lacks a strong role play element (even the ones from Balmung!) so I thought trying to make connections here would help! Her journey since then has had her grow to love life again and she's settled with her new husband Zalyo in Lavender Beds. Sakha Nefhri, Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te female, she's from a big family with a domineering and controlling mother, so she ran away with her beloved brother and trying to prove herself to the world . Deianera Andoran, Highlander Hyur female, nicknamed Desert Ice, Dei hails from Ala Mhigo and killed her own parents tempered by Ifrit in front of her siblings. She's a mercenary and expects only peoples hate. She finds it hard to get close to people because they don't understand or agree with the cruel functionality of her actions . Liam Russel, midlander hyur male, raised on the open sea as a pirate, Liam's life can be said to be idyllic in it's rampant hedonism. But in reality it was a cruel abuse of a boy who knew nothing else, so he dropped overboard and started a new life for himself on land, still holding the same hedonistic values. Garethoix Lacrainte, Duskwight elezen male, he's a scaredy cat, afraid of bright ligh, open spaces and people . On a dare from the other kids in his cave he left it, to be blinded by the light and fall off a cliff. Saved by the conjurers, he learned their art as a kind soul, but subject to the deep prejudice against his race in Gridania he rarely leaves the Fane, but some new friends have started to help him out of his shell. Mynafryd Fraeskyltwyn, Sea Wolf Roegadyn female, huge, happy and in love with holiday cheer, Myna makes it her mission to make people happy, and smack around those that refuse to be happy and choose grumpiness. Concepts: Takara Taniyama, Raen Au Ra female, an exiled noblewoman, Takara represents hope for her retainers, who hope that fleeing across the sea and ingratiating themselves with Eorzea will see them able to go home , back to their old livee, but Takara really is just happy to be free and associates with Eorzea s seedy underbelly. Nanamori, Dunesfolk Lalafell male, bearing an uncanny resemblance to Nanamo Ul Namo, this bastard orphan from the streets of Ul'dah just might see a reversal of fortune. Sadi and Disa, Raen Au Ra male and female , two characters different as night and day, one the picture of mischief and fun the other control and duty. Background up in the air whether they should be the same person, cursed, or siblings. Teterra Terra?/Aladi Ladi?, Dunesfolk Lalafell female, a fun loving and capitalistic young woman, she is all about loving, but she definitely wants something out of it. Debunked - Duukuru Daakuru, Dunesfolk Lalafell male, made to be the Dewey Duck in an Eorzean retelling of Duck Tales it ended up not kicking off.
