Okay, I just did a HUGE revamp of my profile for my main character. Estera is now Estelle Dusoir, and is now a Wildwood Elezen instead of a Duskwight Elezen. If anyone would like to take a look at her new profile, it can be found here. Screenshots of her will be added ASAP.

RP Servers: A Discussion (mods please read before locking..)
Robromance replied to Mtoto Wamoto's topic in RP Discussion
I suppose if new players come to Balmung, they could just start stories together and have a "fresh start" that way. That way, new players can start new storylines together and technically everyone is still all in the same place, for conveniences sake. (This is if you ignore how daunting it would be for new players to enter a world full of mostly level caped peers, but that's a whole 'nother debate.) However, would it really be that troublesome to have a "just in case secondary side" server for newer players? It sounds like most people are going to go to Balmung anyway, and the people who would go to the newer server know that. They know what and who they would be missing out on. If they still choose the other server while knowing that, then they have no right to complain when they can't go to Balmung specific events. What's wrong with wanting to be a part of this community, just in a different place than the older players? To use an example that I have seen worked in the past, I'm currently part of a rather large regional community. Most of it is based in a certain city on the mainland, but it also accepts members from the rest of mainland and those from a nearby island. There's also a small sub-community that I'm a part of that primarily includes those who live on the island. It's still part of the bigge community, but it is also a seperate community in itself. There are events that are scheduled for just the island members, and events that are scheduled for just the mainland members. Sometimes, the events mirror each other (ie: the island community will have an "island version" of a bigger event happening on the mainland), but sometimes we have island or mainland specific events. Everyone still talks and plans and chats with each other. We're still all more or less part of the same community, although we do live pretty far from each other. What binds us is a mutual interest that we share and actively take part in. So what I am getting at is that it is completely possible to have two separate sub-communities within one bigger community and have the same (or different) events happen within them and have it not create any kind of schism between the people within the sub-communities. Just my two cents on the matter based on my personal experience, I guess. I think a poll (which has already been suggested) is at the very least a step in the right direction towards a fair and equal compromise. -
I would love to join in on this, and I personally really like the idea of a real gil auction. For a new player like myself, auctioning myself off to help others would not only be an amazing way to get me involved in other storylines, but would also help me get that much closer to a house of my very own. I'm sure there are other newcomers who could use the monetary and social boost an auction like this would provide.

Here are just some of my favourites that I would recommend to pretty much anyone! c: Just Plain Good Movies: Fight Club Tank Girl Pan's Labyrinth Amelie Paprika Tokyo Godfathers Porco Rosso The Secret of Kells Badgood Movies: Foodfight (a grocery store comes alive and Charlie Sheen stars in it, what more could you want) BIRDEMIC SHOCK AND TERROR (exploding CGI birds and bad acting abound) The Room (a classic!) Wtf Is Even Going On Movies: Hausu (japanese horror movie revolving around a haunted house. it has some gore in it if that would bug anyone) Steak (a bunch of french dudes who are obsessed with plastic surgery and milk play a sport that involves math and hitting each other)

I've had a character in my head forever that I think would actually fit in very well with this plot. If there's still space available I would very much love to get in on this. nwn

In any case, Estera is asexual/panromantic. Not that it'd be easy for anyone to get close enough to her for romance to develop, but she really doesn't have a preference towards any race/gender/body type in particular. You just have to respect her need for personal space and preferably think that hunting together is a fantastic date activity and also not be afraid to confront her about her emotions or past but you'd have to be REALLY close for her to tolerate that.

Thank you all very much for all the advice you've given me. I think, in light of what's been discussed, I will be pulling aside one or two of my most closest friends within our group and talk about what's been going on. At the very least, I'll be /blisting him once I get in the game, and hopefully that will be the last I ever have to hear from him. I don't know if I'll be able to play in the big groups with them in particular any more, and I know I'll miss quite a few of the people in them and the good times we had in the past. However, if I am at least able to still group with and be friends with the two I mentioned before, I think I will be okay with that. I can always find another big group to be a part of. I don't mind if they're still friends with him, but I am hoping they'll understand where I'm coming from and will still want to be friends with me after I explain myself. If they don't, well.... I'm sure I'll be able to make new friends in ARR. The entire theme of the game is a fresh start, and that is what I will be looking forward to having once I start playing. Thank you all again for the advice. You are all wonderful people. nwn

Do people know if they've been blacklisted or not? Or am I just shown as not online to them? The main reason I haven't done this is because he's pretty good friends with a lot of people in my main friend group. He's also pretty good at getting things done, and my friends have made sure to let me know how valuable he is for them to have as a friend. Even if there isn't a notification, it's very likely he'd know I was online from my friends talking about me being online or just from seeing me in a group with our buddies. He's pretty smart; he'd be able to put 2 and 2 together and figure out I blacklisted him, and he really doesn't seem like the type who would take too well to that. And I have a feeling that if it came down to a "me or him" situation, which it very well might, I could wind up losing a lot of in-game friends. (additionally: I apologize if I seem overly paranoid. I tend to get pretty cautious when things like this happen, and it's difficult for me to identify when I'm being rightly cautious or overly paranoid.)

Hello all! For this thread, I am both asking for advice and for general stories. I recently returned to FFXI because I've been feeling very nostalgic for it lately. As soon as I logged in, however, I remembered why I had left in the first place. Simply put, the person who harassed me in-game for years was online at the time as well, and it wasn't even five minutes before I had five messages from him. It wasn't a terribly... Welcoming or reassuring thing to come back to after being gone for so long, to say the least. I haven't been on again since, but I learned from our very brief exchange that he will be playing ARR. I don't know which server he'll be on, but this makes me now feel extremely uncomfortable about ARR, especially if I play the race and gender that I want to play. For a number of reasons, I won't be listing his name here or my history with him in this post. The biggest reason being that he is a relatively influential person in the FFXI (and now possibly the FFXIV) community. Suffice it to say there are a number of reasons why I haven't just simply pulled him aside and asked him to stop (although I... have, technically, in the past), or reported him to the GM's. So, as a general question, have any of you lovely people been unfortunately harassed in FFXI before? How did you handle it? For specific advice relating to my situation, what should I do about my character's race and gender? I already have my RP character all planned out, but it may be possible for him to recognize me from my race/gender (or even from appearance, since I was modelling her after my FFXI character originally), or to start harassing me again over it without even realizing it's me. Should I change my characters race and rework a lot about her just to feel safer, or should I bite the bullet and play the character I want to play? I mean, I still don't even know if he'll even be on the RP server, since he never seemed interested in that kind of thing, but I can't help but feel paranoid nonetheless... If anyone wants/needs any specifics on my situation, please PM me rather than ask about it on this thread. I'm sorry, but I'm just not quite comfortable giving out specifics on a public forum;;

THIS IS VERY MUCH BELATED but thank you very much for the help everyone! I think now after pondering for a while, I may actually be more okay with changing her name up a bit. I'm still unsure of what to pick, but I should be able to figure it out soon enough. If Estera winds up being the best name for her, then I'll feel a little less guilty about skirting around the naming conventions a bit now. uwu

Female Elezen. I'm not sure which clan she'll be yet, but I am leaning more towards Duskwight at the moment.

Hello awesome people, I come bearing more questions! c: It has to do with Estera's name. With the racial naming conventions fully revealed, it seems as though Estera doesn't feel like proper Elezen name. I was considering changing her name to either Estelle or Orianne. The problem, though, is that neither of those names really seem to fit her like Estera fits her. I've looked through tons of appropriate Elezen names, but only those two really stuck out for me, and even they are only just acceptable. So, I suppose the question is, should I change her name to suit her race more, or should I keep her name to suit her more? If I do change her name, which should I choose, and how do I change her name on her wikipage title? I found that I could change her name within the article, but I haven't really figured out how to change the name of the article altogether.

Thank you very much, Rhio and Merri! This helps me out a whole lot. It's difficult to attempt to form a convincing and realistic timeline around huge, earth-shattering events that I wasn't able to experience firsthand. I really regret not being able to experience the original storyline, but I am super excited that I now have the opportunity to be part of the incredible reboot. I appreciate your input tons a bunch! uwu

Hey everyone! I have a question regarding Bahamut, and what the whole monster situation is going to be like when ARR finally releases. Did the appearance of Bahamut 5 years ago increase the number and ferocity of monsters in Eorzea? At least to the point where it's incredibly noticeable? Is this something everyone else already knows within the lore, or will I only know for sure once I've actually gotten into the game? (Also is it okay for me to make my own thread for this? I may have some other questions that I'll need to add to this thread later on.) Thanks in advance! c:

[glow=green]I. Basic Info[/glow] Characters: Estelle Dusoir Primary character: Estelle Dusoir Linkshells: None as of yet. Primary RP linkshell: n/a [glow=blue]II. RP Style[/glow] Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Medium! I have never RP'd in an MMO format before so this is all kind of new for me, but I am really looking forward to just jumping right in and getting as involved with as much RP as possible when ARR starts up! I will very likely be involved with OOC stuff (like leveling jobs Estelle would never touch, occasional endgame stuff, or just hanging out with non-RP bros) though, so I think a medium level of RP is a good place for me to start. Views on RP combat and injuries: Combat and injuries are things that absolutely must be discussed beforehand for me. I love me some good conflict, and things like injuries, scars, and losing are fantastic tools for character development. But I am very new at spur-of-the-moment MMO style RP combat, so please let me know before you start a fight with any of my characters! Even just a "x is going to take a swing at you now, okay?" in /tell, or a "*x gets ready to throw a punch at y*" is good enough for me when in game. It gives me a chance to know what my character may be getting into, and to back down if need be. Views on IC romance: It's not one of my highest priorities for RP, but I certainly enjoy it when it happens! It can be a fantastic way to develop characters, and can really add some extra variation and character motivation to the overall story. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): It's awesome and I am super looking forward to it! I love pretty much anything that will net my characters more development or conflict so any general, romantic, combative, or family related RP is always welcome! I would very much appreciate it if any RP involving possible family ties, romance, or combat be discussed before starting it up, however. Views on lore: I once had someone tell me that "True creativity is being able to create something unique and original within a strict set of guidelines or rules." For me, it is by far much more fun and interesting to play as a realistic, flawed character that fits in the world I'm trying to play in than it is to break all lore and common sense for the sake of being original. Lore should be followed as a guideline and, as a rule, shouldn't be broken when making characters. But I also believe that those guidelines should be pushed as far as they possibly can be. I think characters should try their best to break free from the stereotypes their jobs or race may carry, and if they can come up with a hilarious back story for their character that doesn't break canon (such as being raised in the wild by chocobos), then I say all the power to them! Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I don't think I would mind trying /say RP every once in a while, but I have a feeling I would be much more comfortable in /party chat, IC /linkshell chat, or /tell chat. I'm not really comfortable with clogging up the chat stream for non-RPers, as I understand a lot of them don't really take kindly to that kind of thing most of the time. [glow=purple]III. Thank you for the warm welcome and for the many helpful links! I'll be sure to study every bit of lore and watch every CS I can scrape up to try and get up to date before the launch (or beta, if I'm lucky enough to get an invite). I do have a bit of a newbie question that hasn't been answered anywhere on the links you guys posted here yet (as far as I can see, anyway). How do I create a character page on the wiki? Do I need to get permission from someone, or do I need to create another account somewhere? I tried to create a page earlier today so I can get some basic info posted, but all it said was that my password was wrong (so I can't log in) or that I can't create an account because I'm not an admin (when I clicked the "Create Account" button next to log in on the wiki). Sorry if the answer is obvious, I'm pretty new at wiki related stuff.

Hey hi hello there everyone! You can call me Robro, and goodness where do I even begin here...... Well, firstly, I guess I should say that I'm not entirely new to the Final Fantasy MMO experience, although I am new to FFXIV. I've been playing FFXI for about 4 years now, and I've always really wanted to get into MMO RP. I was super excited to give it a try when I first logged onto FFXI, but was disappointed when I discovered that next to no one still RP'd on there by the time I finally came around That's why I am super excited about FFXIV ARR! The fact that it already has such a strong looking RP community has me feeling super hopeful and also really excited. I'm really looking forward to developing my character, meeting new bros, and experiencing everything Eorzea has to offer GOSH THIS GAME LOOKS SO PRETTY it's going to be so awesome to explore in! I may be asking a few questions here and there regarding lore when I start writing up my character page, is that an okay thing to do? Or is there an FAQ or a specific thread I should be looking at that already handles a lot of lore related questions? Thanks in advance, and I look forward to getting to know you guys better! c:
