  1. Quite a few RPers have no intention on joining a forum. I know I'll be taking about 6 other people wherever I go. I've discussed it with them, and none of them want to be on a legacy server. There is already an unrelated free company that doesn't want to be on a legacy server. There are several others here who don't. If we're snagging 30ish people, we'll end up making our own RP community, and the RP communities really will be completely separate if that ends up happening. This also isn't accounting for a bunch of new players that'll be coming in closer to release, and who knows where they'll go. Some might enjoy the option of going to a place with an established community, but I'm imagining quite a few want to help establish one. And people tend to really enjoy new servers. Will it be as large? No, it probably won't be. I'm actually positive it won't be, but the whole legacy server only attitude with several people not even entertaining the idea of a new server for new people who would want to join it is pretty weird, don't you think?
  2. Literally NO ONE has asked this. Then I must be missing what is being asked...? Please clarify for me, I've been at work all day. x_x New players want an alternative RP server so we don't have to deal with all the issues legacy servers have. We have a moderator telling us to go start our own community now at this point, though, so I guess there's no reason to even discuss it anymore. Kylin: No one here wants people to not have Balmung. No one advocating for a new server for new players is or has said that to any degree whatsoever. We want a secondary server so we don't have to deal with a lot of the legacy issues. That. Is. All. This isn't about not being able to unite on a same server because of friends or something. That's bound to happen. This is something unique to this launch.
  3. You're specifically singling me out. You're accusing me of being hostile. You're threatening to lock a thread directly afterward for people not being professional right after signalling me out. Consider how that seems from my perspective for a few seconds. Consider someone who wants to have another server that's not Balmung and essentially being told by a bunch of legacy players that I shouldn't worry about it while ignoring valid issues to bring up. Consider that everyone seems to be under the assumption that I want everyone to reroll when I've never said anything even close to that. Just, really, think about it for a little bit. Maybe you can see why I'm thinking there's an issue here. And I'm all up for Vee's idea, so I have no idea what you're trying to even do at this point.
  4. Telling people they're not listening is hostile? I'm not insulting anyone, I'm not saying people are wrong, I'm just saying people aren't listening. If that's hostile, then... geeze. You sure you guys are going to be okay for handling any new players?
  5. Actually no one has discussed the gameplay disadvantages, no one has discussed the economic issues, no one has discussed the implications of players who aren't RPers and the sort of mindset they would bring, and I actually did give an in -- seriously, I totally gave an RP hook that could work -- and it was ignored too. You aren't listening. Seriously, you really aren't. You didn't even participate in that thread, so you're telling me people are talking about stuff when I have no idea if you've even read it. Hell, the thread was locked because people considered it as derailing. Also, Vee: I like you. That's more or less what my original post of this whole kerfluffle was about, and look how that turned out. No, I don't, and at no point have I asked them too. I have no idea why people think I have. Probably because they aren't listening.
  6. Well, it's sort of been happening in this thread and the last one, though. There's very much a presence of legacy players who tend to gang up on people and not really listen to thought out things or act dismissive. Like even this, I've brought up concerns and I'm simply being told "Oh, it won't be that big of a deal, you just need to try it and you'll see." Which, well, no, it won't be. I have experience in this. It's not just going to disappear, especially when legacy players are just dismissing concerns. I did play on Balmung. I probably interacted with a few of you. It's not nearly as simple as you make it out to be, and that by and far, none of my concerns have been addressed directly is really just sort of solidifying my position.
  7. I've sort of noticed one, to be honest, but it could just be different perspectives.
  8. This is actually what turns me off legacy servers the most. I don't want to have to come into a world where everyone already has all their connections established and people favored. It's hard as hell to get involved when you have to deal with everyone who's already got everything down and have talked so much. I don't want to have to deal with player lore quite honestly! As for split character, no, I tend to RP while doing things. I'm not much for a stand around and RP person 100% of the time. I actively like to fight and quest while RPing with someone.
  9. I was hoping for a designated RP server, both new and legacy, so I wouldn't be kinda pressure into an unofficial one. I really don't want to be on a legacy server, though....
  10. 38. I haven't decided on whether or not she's taken the time skip, though. Leaning toward yes. It really depends on how Arcanist lore is filtered through. I can't very well have her be primarily an Arcanist if Arcanists didn't exist at all until during those five years.
  11. Being as I'm about as gay as a unicorn dancing under a double rainbow with a bunch of fairies, flowers, and probably a few scented candles with just a bit of flannel, Winter is going to be rather gay. Sadly (by which I mean not sadly at all) my player tendencies are going to reflect a bit in my character if I play her for so long. My experiments with playing bisexual (and one or two straight) characters always left me feeling a bit on the "eeeeh" side. Races, well, probably any, though, again, I'm sure my own biases will show, and some roegadyn woman will totally catch my eye. Also Major kudos.
  12. I can definitely agree to disagree. I'm just not a fan of someone blatantly misrepresenting what I say, but I figure at that point, there's really no point in continuing as there isn't any good faith left. Also, as a note for people who are saying semantics don't matter, I think you're speaking from a very odd position. Of course semantics matter. What words mean is intrinsic to the start of any discussion, otherwise everything you say is entirely meaningless.
  13. I actually think a better solution would have been based on a question like "How affluent is your character?" It gives far more options too. Very affluent for those rich bastards. Quite affluent for those very well off. Somewhat Affluent for those that have more than enough wealth to meet their needs and afford pretty much whatever with some planning. Not very affluent to those who live -maybe- have a permanent residence. Not at all affluent to those who lack pretty much any semblance of money whatsoever. And as a bonus: In debt. It's more specific and much more useful information, I'd think.
