  1. Hello and welcome! I saw LARPer and immediately rushed over! Years ago I used to be involved heavily in the SCA, but moved to an area without a chapter, which led me to the next closest thing I could find: MMO RPing. Welcome to the community and hope you find your flavor. There's definitely lots of flavors of RP here. I will note that heavy RP doesn't mean always in-character for many in this community, but rather refers to how they roleplay, and keep track of their character(s) progression, while in-character. If you're not sure what I mean, check the section under Different Styles of RP in this RPers handbook here: I'd love to offer meeting up in-game sometime, but that will have to wait until they pull the cyber-walls down between the data centers. In the meantime, I hope you find some awesome adventures, create radical quests to share with others, and have a glorious time.
  2. I'm in the same boat as Tristan on this, in that it takes a huge amount of effort to find steady RP in FFXIV. I also have more than 20 years experience, but I kept coming across RPers who flaked out on me, ghosted off, or ended up as once-offs. It took a couple of months (this last time) to find a few people I enjoy RPing with and I'm really happy I kept at it to find them. I still reach out trying to find more people to connect with, but it's not a fast, or easy process like it is in other RP communities. I know it can be discouraging, and I've honestly cried from the sheer frustration of it, going so far as to quit a few times in the past. This time I decided to dig in because I really enjoy FFXIV as a whole and getting solid RP would be awesome. I've set up a routine of hitting a few events a week my character would attend and working on becoming a regular, while also forcing myself to interact with a new person each time. When folks put up ads here and on discord, I send messages to the ones that share a similar RP style and have characters that read as if they have story potential with mine. I've tried to pinpoint why the largest RP community across the MMO platform seems to have so many seemingly transient and finicky RPers, but I stopped worrying about it and kept swimming through them. The gems will show themselves to you eventually, I'm learning. Stick to what you enjoy so that when you do start attracting like-minded players, they're liking you for what you enjoy. I wish you the best of luck and hope you find fun.
  3. Hi there. I was one of those players waiting for the 2-day maintenance to end to do a transfer to Balmung. I've been enjoying the gameplay of FFXIV so much, that I've decided to stay put where I am and invest in the budding RP community there. I've been playing on Fairie with another friend that intended to transfer as well. She's more outgoing than I am, and started wearing the RP tag, and sending whispers to everyone she found in search wearing the RP tag. Through those connections, she found a couple of guilds and various individuals interested in growing the RP community. They established a website and a discord, and hosted two RP events last week to bring players together that wanted to connect for RP. I don't know if there's other pockets of RPers floating about as I'm still new, but I'll leave this information here in case anyone else got shut out of Balmung like we did. I figure worst case scenario is help grow the community and if it doesn't work out, then maybe Balmung will be available for transfers down the road and we can try to get in then. https://ffxiv-faerie-rp.enjin.com
