  1. Any sort of comparison of words used in our world with those that may or may not be used in a totally different world based solely on the imagination of those who wrote it is a false debate from the start, imho. One can use our own history as an example in discussion perhaps, but Eorzea is not our past and therefore the comparison is moot. Eorzea is not Renaissance Europe, Medieval Europe, the Shogunate of Japan, or any other time period of our past. It is only vaguely based on real world cultures. Every civilization has had words for what we consider foul language today. They may not be the -same- as we use or may not have really been considered 'foul' perse depending on the culture, but we do not speak Eorzean either. What we do, as RP'ers, is use English, Japanese, French, German, or whatever language may be our medium to -simulate- the language of Eorzea. Which I'm quite confident (considering people are people) has foul language of an equivalent to that which we have today. Or other cultures have had in our past, whatever. It's fun to discuss, I suppose, but methinks it's also much adieu over nothing
  2. Good posts, and I agree with most of what I've read. As with any other kind of conflict RP, the primary thing that players of villains and heros alike need to remember is that no other player or PC is there for your convenience. That is what single player games are for. All is a trade off, provided the rule of 'don't be a dick' is followed by both sides. Sometimes the villain should win. Sometimes the hero should win. And sometimes the not so heroic types should go through the pockets of both while they lie there mutually beaten and bloodied to rid them of their loose change. And maybe kick a little dirt over them before they leave, just in case they happen to die. If you treat your fellow players with some common decency and regard their fun as important as your own, you'll have repeat RP as a villain, or a hero. If you don't, you have one encounter that leaves both sides annoyed. Depending on the story and RP, make sure that neither good nor evil wins every time. I say this having volunteered, in my first RP on Balmung, to be a victim of bandits. All of us had great fun, and Kharijin is still on the look out for those two, with poisoned arrows.
  3. For Kharijin Borlaaq, who is always looking in this direction and (generally) upbeat, even after coming to this new continent with little more than a bow and a saddle. I found this because it is a single instrument, which applies well to my thoughts about bards. SMQVyGOZylg For her more deliberate and thoughtful cousin Maqali Iriq, who is a bit less willing to accept the wonders of tomorrow on faith. Thankfully, by the same musician! 6Kbv1OpIpaA
