  1. I have two takes on this: Like someone said before, you could be considered too skilled if you make yourself too good, that noone else gets a chance to shine. If you eclipse everyone else around you, maybe you should step back and take a look at your posts and see just how you are going about alienating everyone else. If your character has reasons to have all these skills, then sure, keep them, but maybe tone down your Godliness. Maybe you are skilled at forgework, but maybe that guy over there that is dedicating his life to it can teach you a trick or two that you haven't picked up naturally. Or maybe his filigree even impresses *you*. There is much you can still be, but make others feel that their effort isn't wasted. My second take on this is: How well can you make me believe you know this? If you can really explain and detail out one of your skill sets to a degree that makes me, the reader believe that you can illustrate a picture in my mind about the level of detail in which you showcasing your skill, I am likely to buy into the fact that your character is skilled in it. If you say: I know how to forge, I am the best forgemaster in the world, and leave it like that, I'm gonna scoot away and find someone else to RP with. I am not saying that your character *isn't* skilled, I am saying you didn't convince me. When I play my assassin character, I play it like i would a real assassin. All plans laid out, maps and escape routes planned, complete with studying my target, the guards patrols, and finally the execution of the plan. WHen it all comes together, you can actually believe my character is an assassin. I didn't just tell you, I showed you. And when she gets away, you are rooting for her, because you've developed a repertoire with her.
  2. I have not settled on a race simply so that I don't limit my RP partner into playing something they'd rather not. I am willing to play any race, again, as to not be limiting. Since this endeavor with my character would be closely tied to another character.
  3. Going off of the big brother idea I was beginning to flesh out some ideas! I like where it is going. I am liking where she is going. I won't be able to transfer to Balmung until Oct 21st, so if anyone is interested in being her older brother (tanky/knighty type of person preferably) we could hash out some character ideas. Since their backstory would ideally be pretty close, I'd like to go over it with any potential RP partner, that could possibly take time until I am able to transfer my character/s. Anyone :moogle:
  4. well, in my mind, I was thinking she is the younger (or youngest) of her family, and follows around her older brother (or sister) completely intent upon keeping themselves, as their older sibling ( a tanky type I was envisioning, but it doesn't have to be) tends to run headlong into battle. My character is constantly trying to be the voice of reason and getting dragged into dangerous types of situation just to keep their older sibling from getting killed. I was thinking the older sibling would have a fondness for their younger sister, being the big brotherly type who also seeks to protect their sister both from harm and from undesirable male attention. They may be opposites (in appearance or just attitudes) but they are close in the familial ties. My character's gentle nature lends a large degree to naivety, and again, when hurt on a personal level is cut deep and feels a lot. Despite this, she devotes a large amount of attention to her craft, to mastering it, even if she struggles a lot (magic is not innate within her, so she studies harder to learn to harness the powers of the elementals). This has probably been overdone, but I have never done it and was looking to try it.
  5. Just looking for some people who don't mind doing some online RP fun on the forums. As I seem to be stuck on Cactuar (for now) seems my only outlet for RP are these forums. Some casting ideas would be: 1. A brother (or sister) 2. A long time friend 3. As always complete utter strangers are cool too. I usually like : as the wind takes you RP, but of course if people want to push a particular story arc, I am more than willing to participate.
  6. I see so many of you are on Balmung. Unfortunately, I cannot make a character there, as it is closed off. SO I am stuck on Cactuar. Already initiated some contact on that server, however, it seems the most of my extensive play will be on these forums. I saw a few threads about finding new contacts, but that mainly seems to be on the server. I was wondering how I might go about finding an RP for the site? Also, still looking over all that information about WHM and CNJ. I don't want to stir the waters by claiming to be a WHM if it's supposedly impossible.
  7. Hello Coalition! My name is Subasu Ethenia and, well, I'm not used to introducing myself on RP forums. I usually just jump into the RP threads and make myself known there. However, I decided I'd try something a little different, and try introducing myself first. I have dabbled in a lot of games over the years. I started my MMORPG career in Everquest and broadened my horizons out to Horizons (known as Istaria now), Vanguard:Saga of Heroes (my personal favorite next to FFXIV), Warhammer Online, Conan, Aion, LotRO (another personal fav) I've played Diablo, Diablo II, (shamed to admit this) Diablo III, and Grim Dawn (love this small gem). As well as Path of Exile. When I created Subasu, I did not have a complete backstory for her, or a story at all. She was meant to be a character I played around with and had fun. But as I went through the Main Story questline, I found myself giving her dialogue for the things going on around her. It soon became apparent that my RP ways would not die simply for the need to rush through content. Now, I found the fun in the game wanes and I need to express myself creatively through RP. So, with that in mind, Subasu has taken on the classic personality traits of one of my other clerics I RP'd in another game. Subasu is a kind soul (her WHM Soul reflects that) who is easily broken by personal tragedy in her life. She gives love and compassion to others without thought and then when personal tragedy strikes, she is left raw and almost laid bare to the back lash of emotions (Vault anyone?). She is like a little sister to those she meets and is not very intimidating to those around her although she is more than capable of standing on her own in battle. She is often quiet, and speaks with wisdom instead of harsh words. (At least I will try to keep this is mind) Discovered the Coalition through google search (it's so popular you guys have #3 slot in search results, kudos!) I would like to maintain a medium to heavy RP presence. I won't RP dungeon runs, unless everyone has agreed to RP the dungeon, then I have no qualms with playing along. Usually though, they are pugs and no one cares to take that extra time. Otherwise I usually stay in character, unless I need clarification on something or need to address something OOC, then I will either PM the people or make some kind of annotation that denote I am speaking OOC'ly. In my RL, I am an overweight woman who has struggled with self-image issues that relate to my weight. At 4'11" I was a disgusting 200lbs and wasn't looking like I was coming down anytime soon. That was when I discovered Crossfit and have been going for over 5 months now. I am down 20 lbs and several pant sizes (was 24W now I'm at 18W. Could possibly fit a 16W). I've changed my eating habits, as well as working out for about an hour everyday. I didn't think I could do this, until I tried it. Every workout is scaleable to my level of fitness and the people in my box are some of my biggest supporters and motivators. When I trudge in from a particularly long run, they are all there to cheer me in the door. When I am the last person finishing a workout, they will all get with me to help me finish up, so that I am not doing it alone. It's this sort of comraderie that has kept me going back and continuing this weight loss journey that I am on. So, if anyone else may be interested, you can PM and I can answer any questions you may have. Hope to meet many of you wonderful folks!
  8. I hadn't thought of that. I will try to incorporate that. Thank you.
  9. The way I see it is magical healing has two separate categories. While in combat, it makes no sense you can wave your hand and poof, all the wounds flitter away. For me, healing in combat is more like a magical plug. You use magic to stop the bleeding your ally has taken, and the magic also removes any and all pain as long as the healer has the means to sustain the magicks in place. Basically, a man with a broken arm won't be able to lift an axe, not because his arm is broken, but because the pain is too great. A healer can remove that stimulation of pain and the warrior can continue on as if nothing has happened. Preventing pain, stopping bleeding and bringing a restoration to their morale is what a cleric brings in battle. Outside battle, magical healing is more of a quick acceleration of repairing the body's natural healing process. It takes both energy from the caster and the recipient, as it's his/her body that is the one healing. A healer must balance his ability to mend the body's regeneration process, stop gap any bleeding, and the over all pain management of his patient. All of this taxes the healer's magic, while the patient must use vast energies to quickly recover his body. Depending on the level of the wound, healing can take as little as a few minutes to days or weeks of recovery. Also, the healer must take note not to overdraw the patients ability to supply their own reserves of energy.
