"Someone", you say? Well, congratulations. Non-specific requests for help tend to be my domain. You're mine, now. Fuck it, you too. We are gonna get your everything hammered right out, come hell, high water, or crazy mouth tornado from the stars. (That's an Azathoth joke.) I have a feeling this will be the start of a wonderful curse.

This looks like a lot of fun actually! I've been text-rping in forums and games a little bit but have never gone past that to actually creating a wiki for my character nor tracking his development over many years. It'd be awesome if someone could guide me, especially since my character come 2.0 will be a youngling who wasn't old enough to understand what was going on 5 years ago.

Yea, turns out it is. It even said there in the metadata ... but who ever goes through those. I could totally see a city not allowing people to paint it from one side cause it looks disproportionate!

-highfive- Don't worry, if everyone else leaves you behind, I'll be with you all new and confused. We'll form our own linkshell and none of the stinky elitists from 1.0 are allowed! >3 Except you Vareal, if you can find the video, you'll be welcomed to our no-1.0-linkshell with open arms! And lots of sandwiches ...

Thanks guys for the amazing encouragement! I've literally just started drawing these things, so to see everyone actually not calling it ugly is very cool. Having said that, please give me lots of biting criticism! Also, whoever can tell me where this is ... gets lots of cookies and love. All the filename told me was "FF-RR-RW1.jpg" D: ... now I'm actually not even sure if this is FFXIV anymore. Edit: I did add the blossom and the tree, the bottom left of the image was too silly to draw. http://25.media.tumblr.com/deca4cc5dd69178bb9101aefcb329426/tumblr_mnxdo10ilU1su7oufo1_1280.jpg[/img]

Okay, here is a preliminary draft of things. I drew in two styles, one an abstract western style that I feel didn't really work as well as I hoped with the brush. The other is, while not completely traditional, more closely aligned with traditional techniques. Comments! Biting criticism, as much as possible! edit: Also, I need to adjust the f-stop settings on my camera, no need to point that out for now. edit 2: Also, top = traditional, bottom = more abstract http://24.media.tumblr.com/39769da8d2ba2e87eac637caa08c4f77/tumblr_mntqpbXU5K1su7oufo1_1280.jpg[/img] http://24.media.tumblr.com/f7cddc0fbfb2286663ab04c93f60ee9d/tumblr_mntp603rXJ1su7oufo1_500.jpg[/img]

Thank you guys for the comments, now I must do this! -fire lights up in his eyes- And special thanks to Alothia for the album, I'll start from the first one and work my way down!

Thank you friend! Any scenery from FFXIV you can recommend for me to draw?

I'm not sure if anyone's interested in brushes of the far east, but recently I've started drawing traditional chinese paintings, since I've been doing calligraphy almost all my life, this turns out to be quite easy. Chinese brushes are also the basis on which most Japanese stuff derives from, and I've been drawing some of that as well. What I want to try to do is take this art style, my limited skill in it, and apply it to FFXIV sceneries. To that effect, if anyone is interested, and has some amazing screenshots, I'd love to take one and try to turn it into a painting. Here's a sample I threw together in 5 minutes to test my brush and the new paper I bought. http://24.media.tumblr.com/2d2146facf4d23bb00a894713a7740bd/tumblr_mntbbmp9Y11su7oufo1_1280.jpg[/img]

What games are you playing/looking forward to?
Observant replied to Orlog's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I personally feel that it's as terrible as it has been at launch. Everyone's still playing sexy Harry Potter, and RP typically just consists of lots of hanging out in a bar, talking about how demon possessed they are. (True story) It's a large reason why I don't really play much at all anymore. >.> That's what I ran into back in the day. But I guess I'll check out the RP site and see how it goes. -

Ah that sounds pretty damn sweet... I should get back to it. The game itself, felt a little grindy for me though. Probably because I did the quests in beta, and then really didn't want to do them again in live. That and the PvP was a little disappointing, as it seems I got experience without any actual growth. But with a recommendation like that, how can I not go play ... -
Ahh, yea, =P. There's your problem. You didn't have a family!
-
Way to go! -teases- As far as disappointing goes, I think you've just trumped mine! -bows and runs off to bed-

Been on and off AoW for the past bit, but since I played on the Chinese server this isn't quite what I was expecting. And, is TSW RP really as good as you say? I remember being super excited by it, buying /Grand Master/ back in the day, and then stopping like a month in due to lack of RP. Has it matured much now? -
Oh so we finally found out who's responsible for the end of the world ... WHAT DO WE DO NOW? (Think of all the Inns you wouldn't have stayed in if he got smacked down then and there!) But in all earnest. Thank you guys so much for the first hand descriptions of that fateful evening. It really makes me regret not getting the game when I should have, but also make me a little glad. - Glad that there are still so many who genuinely care about the world and the history, for whom it left such a lasting impact. That and chatting with tightlipped friends from Beta ... I absolutely cannot wait ... at all ... until August ...

That's what I mean. Being there for with the rest of the world, knowing that mostly everyone will probably die... That must have been an amazing atmosphere. Though thinking back to it, I am kind of glad it is an unique event and that it won't ever happen again. After all, this kind of end-of-the-world event can only happen once.

I have nothing much more to say but "I love you. Marry me."

I would say, even in life, jobs and skills are never really completely clear cut. Par example, I'm in research, (bioengineering.) I wear a lab coat for the biological half of my work, but when I get back to the device half, I don't really take it off. (Mostly because lazy.) - I have all the tools I need for both jobs in the pockets of my l lab coats, so even as I go between the different aspects, I am technically wearing 'gear' for my main job. I argue that everyone, IC, has a 'main' job. The one that they do best, that they train the longest for, and naturally, the one that defines their character. Just because my character knows the abilities of some other jobs doesn't mean he's going to switch out most of his gear for a new set when he just wants to use a single skill. Example here being, and forgive me if I get the mechanics wrong, if my lancer wants to cast some black magic, he doesn't necessarily have to use a staff to do so, perhaps he just plants his pointy stick into the ground and uses his other hand to cast. Or, he can have his channeling built into the lance. But no matter what magic he casts, he's still a lancer casting that magic and not suddenly a new mageling.

Hehe, thank you everyone for the descriptions, ... I would say, this is something of an unique experience to, not only the genre, but to all gaming. I mean, how often do you get to actually live /the end of the world/? ... and as a follow up to that, how often do you get to /keep playing/ after the cataclysmic changes have gone through the world and destroyed most of what you remember? (My my ... I did choose a terrible adjective there didn't I ...) And Acistian, naturally you are right, it just feels like we'll almost be missing half our lives, =P given that as new players, I'm assuming, we probably won't be starting as the old heroes; but rather new ones. - Nothing wrong with that of course.

I've just been reading on the changes to the game from the Seventh Umbral Era arc, and the more I read the more I regret not restarting the game when I wanted to last year. It seems like the approaching Dalamund must have been a sight to behold in game; I feel like I could just lie somewhere on the grass and stare at it all day. Does anyone else have this feeling? And especially for those who experienced it ... I hate you guys. <3 Is it as awesome as I'm imagining in my head?
-
Wow, this is the warmest welcome I've received in ... pretty much ever. Thank you guys so much, and hope to spend lots of good times with everyone.

Sounds like a fun way to go about it, especially since there are bound to be people who want to take advantage of the rebuilding effort to advance their own powers and prestige. I just recently got back into FFXIV and am in the process of learning all the lore that I've missed, but I'd love to help around, see how it goes!

A comprehensive look at the Seventh Umbral Era story arc [1.0]
Observant replied to Merri's topic in Lore Discussion
I really need to thank you for this. For those of us who didn't get a chance to play 1.0 this is an amazing thing to watch and live through. (In my case ... 1.0 literally friend my motherboard ... that was kind weird.) Thanks again so much! -
Hi all, I am pretty much new to FFXIV, 1.0 having killed my computer back in the day and actually made me buy a new motherboard. By which time it was too late. Looking forward to creating lots of nice stories with everyone. Best,
