  1. Garleans aren't evil, friend. They're just the other side. My apologies, I should have put "evil" instead, after all its just a matter of perception. I'm interested in any Garlean stuff now that I'm back. Feel free to poke me with your in-game name and a little description of your character in PMs!

  3. Just a small bump, I've gotten to just about everyone to post in here in some for or another, but we're always looking for more loyalists!
  4. Still probably a good idea not to RP stuff that's supposed to be super rare/exclusive, just because of how easy it is for them to change something in the lore that suddenly makes everything you've done irrelevant. Just to be safe. Only reason I can see for people to -need- to RP a WHM/BLM instead of an exceptional Conjurer/Thaumaturge is because they want to be special.
  5. You're mentioning the Job crystals that most people are okay with people RPing, though. When people aqre wary about people RPing as jobs they generally mean the ones like WHM, BLM, etc. The ones explicitly called forbidden or incredibly rare in the lore. Ones like WAR/BRD/MNK, where there are people and organizations actively training new people are fine and I never see them being pestered about it. EDIT: While I'm here, to show I'm not just against people RPing stuff like being part of important or exclusive lore organizations like the Dragoons and such, I'll mention that a new (?) Garlean FC has cropped up recently that is actually RPing as the Vth Legion with their leader being a comic book villain-y evil Legatus. As someone RPing a Garlean and trying to run a group myself, I find this insane considering we have an expansion looming that will likely heavily involve the Garleans given the setting that could easily make everything they do non-canon. Plus, they're playing them as mustache twirlingly evil villains. It grinds my gears, though I imagine it'd be funny to encounter them ICly ("Uh, no.. you're not the real Vth Legion.").
  6. Slowly working at arranging IC meetings with people, things are getting good so far. If you have need of a possible Garlean antagonist for your RP plotlines feel free to drop me a PM!
  7. I imagine it's because RPers are a small niche and they want to make the larger playerbase feel special by saying these classes/jobs are rare or forbidden or one of a kind. Which is fine.
  8. Is there a problem if they do? I'm honestly curious what problem it will cause. People always use general language, like they're speaking for a whole group, but in reality they're just speaking their personal opinion. Will it cause an issue for you? How would you react to a player who still says they're a dragoon, or a grandmaster monk? Depending on the character I'm playing, as others have said in the thread, I'll either assume their character is lying, drunk or crazy. *Mod edit happened to aid with thread cleanup.
  9. Pretty sure as long as people who RP MNKs don't come out and say they're grandmasters of their own sect and they're the avatar of Rahlgr they'll be fine.
  10. I thought WHM was a forbidden art, not lost?...if so there is a difference there. Either way, I have noted many dragoons calling themselves knight dragoons or retired dragoons. I saw someone call themselves a dragoon reservist, meant to go active should war start once more. Forbidden, lost whatever. My point is that really only the Padjal are supposed to know white magic and the WOL is the ONLY non Padjal to even have a smattering of training in it. And yet...we have WHM RPers. So I mean...I don't see the alarm here. Saying "well RPers RP stuff they shouldn't all the time so why care at all??" is a pretty bad excuse.
  11. As I've said before, you can RP whatever you want. Nobody can stop you, not even us and our "mean" terms like special snowflake. That being said, don't be surprised or upset if you encounter people who follow the lore we're given whose characters either think yours are crazy or lying when they claim to be something like a Dragoon or anything else on shaky canonical ground. Just as much as it's your right to RP what you want it's our right to question it IC and OOCly, as long as it's kept civil.
  12. There is no solution, and it doesn't matter how long you've been RPing. There will always be people who are lazy when it comes to their characters are are willing step outside lore boundaries to be unique.
  13. Prior to the lore book we knew only that that the order was exclusive to those who had killed a dragon and passed training. No reference, specific or abstract, exists in reference to its size. Seems to me that speaks to it's exclusivity and secrecy if that's all we knew about it, plus the class quests make it pretty clear that becoming a Dragoon is a pretty big deal. These are all red flags.
  14. I go out of my way to be as vague as possible and use only lore we -do- have right -now- in my RP. My character isn't a super spy from Garlemald who rubs elbows with the likes of Regula and Gaius, and he has zero connection to the greater goings on beyond the borders of Eorzea. He's a soldier, one of hundreds we see every time our quests take us to one of the Castrums or other holdouts of remnants of the XIVth, VIIth and VIth legions. If, somehow, this still ends up breaking the lore they add with Stormblood I'll retcon what I have to. I won't try to find some loophole around it or try to poke holes in the credibility of the lore leads over at S-E because I can't handle it. EDIT: I want to reiterate that people are free to RP what they want, but don't be surprised if you run into people who -do- follow the lore to the letter and their characters don't just ooh and ahh when you tell them you're drinking buds with Estinien and you just got back from killing 20 dragons with your Dragoon pals.
  15. Welcome to a train of thought that leads to never roleplaying anything interesting, ever, because it's "too risky" or makes you a "special snowflake" (didn't we get over the term "special snowflake" and the concepts behind it in, like, 2013?). By this logic, I wouldn't be roleplaying an Au Ra. I'd reiterate what everyone else said to you on the previous page. There's a difference between that and RPing something that flies in the face of what we've been told by the lore team, whether or not you think they're worth listening to or not. You can RP an Au Ra because it's been made clear they're refugees fleeing to Eorzea. You shouldn't RP a Dragoon because we now know (and have always known) they're an exclusive and very small order of elite warriors. You can RP as a Garlean or Doman because we see hundreds upon hudnreds of Garlean grunts still operating in and around Eorzea and we saw the quests that told us Doman refugees were fleeing to Eorzea. You shouldn't RP a Galrean Legatus or a Doman Princess because these are both high offices and we know so little about that aspect of the lore you're more likely to get something wrong you're going to have to retcon than not. Nobody is saying you should only RP boring people doing boring things, but you can basically do what you've already been doing already.. just don't apply these titles to yourself or say your character is part of some special organization.
  16. Just popping in to say that the Quicksand is not at all indicative of the RP community as a whole. By and large the RP there tends to be more about hooking up and high school level drama than anything else. You're better off looking through the RP FCs listed here on the site and joining one of them. Best of luck to you!
  17. This reminds me of that period before we knew what Yugiris race was, but we had people here -dead set- on RPing whatever she was. There was a whole group who knew for a fact she was going to be revealed to be a Viera, so they RP'd as secret Viera for months and months.. only for the reveal to be anything but. Those people looked stupid and had to retcon months of RP. You can get as snippy as you want at people daring to challenge your headcanon, but it's an objective fact that there are fewer issues with RP canon and lore bending if you simple avoid putting your character in a position where they can be effected. You can RP an expert at conjury, thaumaturgy, swordplay or lancework.. just don't call yourself a White Mage, Black Mage, Samurai or Dragoon. When you start applying labels to yourself before you know all of the lore behind the titles and organizations you only set yourself up for a fall.
  18. Instead of being a Dragoon, be a soldier of Ishgard who skillfully uses a lance. You can give your characters pretty much the same skills and background for a lot of the Classes/Jobs without actually using the name and treading dangerous canonical ground. It's just safer to avoid putting your characters into any story based organizations, and I'm surprised (and also not) that some people continue to be surprised by things like this.
  19. I doubt this is the case, but I hope this serves as a lesson for people who feel the need to RP something exclusive and rare in a games canon. If you can't come up with something interesting without slapping on a "oh also they're a member of a super exclusive and secretive order and they kill god beasts" you need to bone up on your RP 101. I feel the same way about seeing people who RP Garleans of such high ranks that they'd be rubbing elbows with the likes of Gaius and Nael or ruling over their own castrum. Think small and nuanced, not grand and braggy when it comes to your characters.
  20. I would be more interested by a RP LS (not an OOC LS) to get in touch with garlean players and try to connect PCs for plots, but maybe that's just me I hope I'll be able to meet you guys at some point. I plan to stay online all night today to be available in your time-zone, so feel free to throw an invite! Hopefully I can catch you sometime tonight. =P I literally just dragged myself out of bed so I'm gonna need some time to really wake up, but if you're still around tonight I'll be sure to grab you or at least get you on my friends list to make it easier next time.
  21. As I had messaged the OP I'll toss it here as well. Abby, Abelia being her Garlean name is still loyal to her country but does not agree with how the Emperor is running it as well as how he isn't afraid to throw his people at a spike wall until the bodies build up and he can walk over it. She left after being ordered to kill innocents during the Doma rebellion and hopes that her country will rise up to be greater. Anyone who needs a Garlean contact or a Medicus is more then welcomed to hit me up! Look forward from hearing from us sometime soon! We've got about five active people and a linkshell set up, and things are gradually ramping up. I doubt we'll make an FC even if we get big because it doesn't make sense for a covert operation to advertise itself to the world. Even if it was OOC knowledge I've encountered too many people who can't help metagaming using stuff they as a player happen to know.
  22. A lot of people seem to think that as soon as they cut off PS3 support the game will drastically improve overnight and every feature people imagine wasn't added because of PS3 players will suddenly appear. More likely is that we may see some nicer QoL changes like larger inventory and more housing.. but not much else. S-E still has to worry about lower end PCs or they risk losing a big chunk of players, so they're not gonna suddenly ramp things up to 11 like some people believe.
