I'd always wanted to play male mithra even way back in XI, male Miqo'te is right up my alley. Still, 2.0 is far from now.

Well, I took no offense and meant none. Just discussing things as bluntly as I usually do. I'll just blunder my way on hoping that all is well.

Bait would imply a trap that I've somehow stumbled into. Not seeing that. You wanted to bait someone into going over the history of the company I guess?

They didn't put every asset they had into FFXIV's development the way they did into The Spirit's Within. It was a supremely stupid move that ended up working out for the best. Enix buying Squaresoft out pulled their ass out of the fire and ended the Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest rivalry for good. SE makes a killing in the DS and PSP markets, FFXI is pure profit at this point, despite it's polarizing nature FFXIII was a financial success, and Dragon Quest IX was a huge success. The past two years they've posted record profits. XIV could flop completely and SE would be fine.

Keep in mind that the 30th was also the last day of the fiscal year. I think that meeting some sort of sales goal might have been part of the decision to release it earlier instead of later.

What to NOT do when roleplaying...
blueblacksky replied to Kraehenfeder's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
The problem is that the people behind the keyboard tend to cherry pick what their character will pick up on when another role-player uses thought-emotes to get a point across. Another reason I dislike thought-emoting is that people can't be misunderstood if you can read their thoughts, misunderstandings make things more true to life, at least to me. Finally, the 80~ish character limit really discourages being overly wordy. That might change in the future though. It's fine if you use them, but unless you include some qualifier about a character making an expression that blatantly gives away what they are thinking I have my character completely ignore thought emotes. -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akihiko_Yoshida He's the lead artist for FFXIV and my favorite Japanese game artist hands down.

I love tvtropes! I could only manage seven at the moment. Fironon: At Least I Admit It - And proud of it. Magnificent Bastard and later the Byronic Hero - Hopefully I get to play this transition out with Baltazar's Favor forcing him to be a "good guy". The Dandy - As important as breathing. Yandere - Intimacy issues anyone? Sacrifice Basic Skills for Awesome Training - Almost an assassin. Almost. Dark and Troubled Past - He's not going to be a stronger person for it. Of course all of these will change depending on how RP progresses. But this is how I intend to start him off.

New FF14 Interview: What you hated in beta is here to stay
blueblacksky replied to Aveline's topic in FFXIV News
The trade cap idea actually helped slow RMT activity in XI a great deal. I wouldn't be surprised if the task force methods that worked so well in XI - until last years massive surge of RMT activity across all MMOs - was implemented in XIV. -
Anyone care to share their Benchmark scores?
blueblacksky replied to Kale's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
1710 on average for me. It's my graphics card holding me back. All accounts of my processor paired with a better graphics card have it scoring at 2500 or more. What are the specs of your laptop? -
Catherine - New game from the Persona team
blueblacksky replied to Dogberry's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
The remake of 1 is an alright game. It shines more for western players who were only able to play the derp release from back then. Overall the first Persona game is fairly mediocre. The game that qualifies as Persona 2 in the west was much better - sadly my copy was stolen many years ago and I missed the reprint Atlus did last year. For me though the series really didn't shine until Persona 3. To me it's the perfect marriage of western and eastern RPG design philosophy. As for Catherine. I'd be surprised if it didn't come over to the US. Atlus hit it big economically after P3 took off here in the states. Given westerners preference for the Persona series over the main Megaten franchise it might be a good move for Atlus to localize the game as 'Persona: Catherine' or something. It's pandering, but hey, that's business. Australia and Europe might not see it because the gaming culture is not as prevalent or as protected in those parts of the world. I'd expect some EU countries to ban it if it did, or to come over censored. Or it could fly under the radar altogether and make it unaltered. The EU can be pretty bi-polar in it's responses to video game content. It's either demonized by the media or missed entirely. -
I really like how the mouth is drawn actually. Reminds me of Yoshida Akihiko's stuff.

Eh, it happens every time. There's some animosity from a small yet vocal minority. Then it dies down after launch.

I don't understand what could have "nearly offended" you about Castiel citing a statistic. In an additionally confusing move you went on to claim the life expectancy to be even lower than he stated. ::Edited to be less flame-tastic::

I guess we could mandate everyone post a picture of themselves holding some sort of identification close enough to the camera for people to read the age.

Legendia was awful anyway, so you didn't miss anything. Don't be too green with envy, they don't like us much more. =/

Vesperia was actually alright in the voices department, and it is likely the only time we'll get voiced skits ever. Did you play Tales of the Abyss? It's my absolute favorite after Destiny.
-
It won't. Namco-Bandai never brings over re-releases to the US or Europe. We're lucky if we even see the original version. We got Tales of Symphonia for Gamecube and not the PS2 version. Vesperia for the 360 and no PS3 version with the extra content. We'll get Graces for the Wii, that's it. I know this because I'm a long time Tales fan and have seen it happen time and again. Hell, I'm just about ready to give up on the franchise because we only get the beta version of each game if we get it at all. Edit: Not to mention the translations are sub-par and the voice-work lazy. They don't want to shell the money out to voice the character skits.

That was a super helpful post Aveline. Allows me to start considering names much sooner.

Common mistakes when speaking about FFXIV
blueblacksky replied to Kashemia's topic in FFXIV Discussion
It reads to me as Row-ga-din. Taking a quick look at the Japanese site to see how they pronounce it. ãã¥ã¼ã©ã³ Hiyuran 'Hyur' Hm. Shortened to Hyur in North American for some reason. ãã³ãã Mikote 'Miqo'te' I see they translated the small ã particle into an apostrophe. Same pronunciation though. ã©ã©ãã§ã« Rarafueru 'Lalafell' R and L are the same in Japanese really. So this is unchanged. ã¨ã¬ã¼ã³ Erezen 'Elezen' R and L again. Unchanged. ã«ã¬ãã£ã³ Rugadein 'Roegadyn' This one is tricky. They changed the first syllable to a 'row' from a 'ru' sound. There's no way to read 'roe' in English as 'roo'. The last bit 'dein' might read as 'dane' to an English audience. But the small 㣠makes it more of a 'den'. This one is actually changed enough to cause confusion between players. Rugadin for the Japanese and Roegadyn for the English. Oddly enough the Japanese site still has Roegadyn under ã«ã¬ãã£ã³.
