  1. I came in after the vote, but I always wondered something. Putting the secondary server to a vote seemed to encourage division in the community in the first place. And not to mention, people still aren't happy with that gesture, as the poll clearly shows... And you're making this hard line on "supporting" servers, even though some of our community--roleplayers as a whole--will be on Gilgamesh, Behemoth, Leviathan, Tonberry, etc. So... why did you guys never think to just make a subforum for Other Servers instead of just one for Gilgamesh? Heck, why don't you guys just do that now, so that the RPC staff doesn't have to weigh in on this debacle? The only reason the topic of leaving Gilgamesh was brought up is because of the Reddit and 4Chan communities, something that was unknown as of the time of the vote. I hope that clears up the confusion. And please stop derailing this thread. It's not about discussing why the Gilgamesh community exists. This. This right here has been my point all along.
  2. All you are doing is rehashing the question of why we chose not to roll on Balmung in the first place. This is not a thread for debating the existence of the Gilgamesh community, it is a simple discussion about whether we want to pick a different (non-legacy) server to go to. Why a separate community exists on Gilgamesh is a question that has been discussed and debated to death here. Balmung is a valid option for anyone that wants to go there. Always has been. But the majority of people that decided to go to Gilgamesh did so because they did not want to go to a legacy server. It stands to reason those people still don't want to be on a legacy server. This was supposed to be a thread for Gilgamesh players to discuss whether they think staying on Gilgamesh, warts and all is the better choice, or is picking a new server (such as Bahamut). It has spiraled into anything but, and that is frustrating.
  3. I was very careful to say *some*. I will not make sweeping assumptions about the Balmung community, and I know a good number of them wish us well.
  4. Let's not derail this thread with off-topic complaints regarding the split, please?
  5. All I was looking to do was raise a concern and open up discussion. I hate a last minute shift like this. It's a pain we don't need. But I have been talking to people, a significant number of people, that are bailing on Gilgamesh because of Reddit and 4Chan, be it the communities or the threat of potential server lock. The Gilgamesh RP community is small as-is, and we're bleeding people here. Now I know some people on Balmung see this as a good thing because they're catching the people we're losing. We could be dying out before we even get a chance to begin. I am committed to this community. Heck, our guild banner has Gilgamesh himself imposed on it. This was all to simply spark discussion on the matter. Nothing more, nothing less.
  6. That was my intent. My intent with this thread was to get the Gilgamesh community talking. If you look at the vote so far, there does appear to be a clear opinion. This thread is being cluttered by Balmung players taking the opportunity to bring up the whole "why not come to Balmung" debate. I am not trying to nominate a third. The point of this thread is to see if we want to change secondaries. We just need to get this thread back on track to decide that.
  7. *sigh* ...again, drifting off topic. Let's try and rerail it again... As I pointed out, it's not just griefing. A primary concern is the server becoming overpopulated as a result of those communities and getting locked. You can't just ignore population server lock.
  8. This thread should simply be about staying on Gilgamesh, or moving to Behemoth (or another server). Please do not derail it by lamenting the existence of those wanting to roll on a server other then Balmung. Also, to be clear, the issue here is not just being with Reddit and 4Chan. The concern is that with both of those communities there, that there is a good chance the population cap will be reached and the server will lock. Please keep the negativity about the existence of the Gilgamesh community out of this thread.
  9. I put up a thread about changing from Gilgamesh to another server. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3311
  10. +Okay, I've seen the whole mess with 4chan and reddit landing on Gilgamesh. Regardless of what you think of the communities there is an undeniable risk that the server will simply fill up and be locked, which would be disastrous for a new RP community. Now, I've heard of people moving from Gilgamesh to Balmung as a result of all this, which to me is sad. I'm looking forward to helping build a new RP community. I also can't ignore the potential problems of Gilgamesh. But I got to wondering... ...why not simply choose a different server to Gilgamesh as our unofficial RP non-legacy server? Right now, Gilgamesh is a name. We've nothing vested in it, and there is no reason we could not settle elsewhere instead. We'd still have our community apart from Balmung to develop. We'd still have, well, everything we wanted. Now, I looked at the original poll, where Gilgamesh won handily. The NA runner up was Behemoth. Why don't we simply change from Gilgamesh to Behemoth? Seem to make the most sense, and make the most people happy. Would also solve the problems we're having with Gilgamesh atm. Thoughts? Note: Please vote only if you are planning to play on Gilgamesh
  11. I'll put up a post to this effect in a bit, but...why can't we pick a different server (Behemoth?) as our non-Legacy server? Right now Gilgamesh is just a name. No reason we can't simply take our settlers and move to a different server.
  12. Most of us rolling Gilg are doing so because we want a new start on a non-legacy server. Having Balmung tagged as the official RP server wouldn't change that and would only trigger a wider train wreck. SE should have dealt with this a *lot* sooner...
  13. Agreed. At this point I'd be nervous about pulling up the stakes and moving our Company to another server, even a designated RP server. Most of us have settled in. We may have friends on Gilgamesh that wouldn't be willing to move, or those that don't realize the new server was open. If Squeenix was going to do this, they should have done it a whole lot earlier (preferably before beta 3). Ironically, at the midnight hour here I'm hoping they *don't* open a dedicated RP server, as I'd rather not have the headache. :frustrated:
  14. Most definitely. We're not an insular Company. OOC we believe in RP outside of the guild, IC it's always good to have connections with specialists who might be able to help out, even if we need to provide "motivation". :dodgy: Looking forward to working with you!
  15. For all the concerns about those communities, I'm sure there are concerns about ours. We are who we are, and we will make the impresions we want to. Our Company is dedicated to RPvE more then city/tavern RP, and we're welcoming people. We're currently looking into an IC and OOC alliance system and will be actively looking for other Companies to RP with. We hit it off, and we can invite them into the alliance. Finding other people to RP with becomes easier if you're carrying an alliance linkpearl and have access to multiple guilds. Give the other groups a chance. RPers can be seen as elite and intimidating? Well, we show them we're not. And in doing so may even be able to draw in some new RPers and at the very least hopefully improving their opinion of this. Leave your preconcieved opinions at the door. Hopefully the other groups will as well and we can not only coexist, but become stronger as a result. ...see you on Gilgamesh. :tonberry: Also, keep your fingers crossed that SE gives us a dedicated RP server, solving the problem outright. There was discussion of it...
  16. This x 100. Keep in mind that while Balmung will have the 1.0 legacy characters, Gilgamesh may be drawing in vet RPers from other games. I know a lot of current Guild Wars 2 players going to Gilgamesh, including a decent amount of our Free Company.
  17. Population can fluctuate even after the poll. For example, our entire Free Company has moved from Balmung over to Gilgamesh, where we've set up shop. I wouldn't be afraid of Gilgamesh being barren of RPers. As suggested above, create a character on each and see what you like. Or alternatively, take a look at our Linkshells forum. If you find one in there you like, go to their server. Hope that gives you food for thought. ^^
  18. Oh, I wasn't replying to anyone in particular. Maybe I phrased that wrong. I meant in general people think...etc...etc...wasn't accusing anyone of anything.
  19. Female Roe are beautiful. You're running into several issues. First, Roe are not Barbies. Plain and simple. Many people look for small, thin, petite women as their mark of beauty (RL as well). The Roe are anything but. This, I think, is the biggest deterrent for many. On the flipside, a lot of people (in a RP setting) will find Roe intimidating, and by extension unattractive. Finally, also from a roleplay standpoint, you can't just "peg" them into a stereotype. Let's be honest, the other races fall into stereotypes from a million other sources. You got your elves and humans, your nekos and your adorable lil child-like people. But the Roe don't fit nicely into anything. For me, that is a strong positive, but many RPers will see it differently. As you can likely tell by now, I don't fall into that camp. I find Roe amazing, and their females beautiful. (Xerek is Hyur simply because I have had this character waiting on the back-burner for years and I love him). I see *many* great RPing opportunities, especially given Xerek's shy nature, and love seeing what the community here ultimately brings to the table. Loving the screenshots all. You're doing a great job showing off how attractive the Roe can be. :moogle:
  20. You can take the pink out of the Miq...er...you can take the Miqo'te out of the...wait, no...hmmm...that's not right... Welcome aboard, Loki!
  21. Not strange at all. I'm a 1.0 player who even beta-tested the original, and I think my lone character was level 1-5ish. Welcome aboard!
  22. I'm with Asyria on this guy's remixes. If you are going to make me listen to a battle theme a million times, PLEASE make it a good one. FF VI...yeah, got it covered. zOAFE9RWx1k Now, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest was only ever intended as a newbie JRPG. In fact it was one of the first games my son played while he was just learning to read! Despite everything else, that game had an amazing soundtrack. Doom Castle, the final dungeon. I just remember setting the controller down in awe when I first went in. This just screams epic... au2d82nymeA If you are going to face a Final Boss, you need epic music to get the adrenaline pumping. Again Mystic Quest slaps you across the face. Over and over. This was the first video game Final Boss my son ever faced, and I grinned as his jaw hit the desk when this theme kicked it. The poor lad couldn't stop shifting in the seat and lasted a whole thirty seconds before standing for the rest of the battle shaking with excitement. 73HHNOc667k
  23. Mmm, ice cream and pie! Gonna have to move the belt another notch. *sigh* I'm thankful for the welcome, and maturity. I have been part of several MMO communities, and I have run across many nice ones, but none that have come close to the FF XI one. It's encouraging to see this community may be just as good, if not better, then that. It's just...well, I missed that.
