  1. That's the thing though; Susano wasn't really summoned, he just kinda showed up when his artifacts came together again. Even the Koijin were surprised to see him speak and take form. Now that I think on it, he was kinda like Nidhogg's shade (assuming I understand what happened right). An actual spirit who was always there, just dormant. I could also be completely off, but that what I got from the cutscene and small tidbits from the whole Susano bit.
  2. I think Susano is also a poor choice of discussion on the topic of what Domans would call an impersonation of their gods, since the way he came to be was very different from how most Eorzean primals did. Nevermind the fact that Susano seems to not be an impersonation, but the actual kami Susano. I think we just need to wait and see if we encounter more Far Eastern primals. Also on a different topic I really wish SE would figure out what they want Doma to be, cuz having Chinpan and Japan is getting weird.
  3. If the primal is Ala Mhigan based and not Rhalgr, could it be King Theodoric? Ilberd didn't exactly have anything nice to say about his own people, and wanted to "liberate the homeland they don't deserve". A being like Theodoric would fit the bill if Ilberd wanted someone who'd hate the Empire and the Loyalists. Granted, Theodoric certainly isn't a deity and nowhere near Bahamut levels of destruction, but maybe to Ilberd's eyes the person who ultimately caused Ala Mhigo to fall is worse than Bahamut. Or maybe SE doesn't even know who the primal is and it's just being used as a plot device to justify the inevitable "BUT DO WE WANT TO BE AS BAD AS THE EMPIRE AND USE OMEGA?" moral conundrum that's gonna happen in Part 2.
  4. For A), they seem to point towards the surprise of being attacked from the other side of the Wall being the primary cause, but then you can consider that between basically nothing happening for 28(?) years, a new Legatus, and the Garlean's war of succession, the Garleans on the Wall probably had no idea what the hell is even going on. None of the city-state leaders even bat an eye at actually taking the Wall, but focus on how the Resistance wouldn't be able to hold it. Plus, if that one cutscene from 3.3 or 3.4 of Yda and Papalymo chilling in that Resistance camp was actually taking place within Gyr Abania, then the Garleans are either in bad shape or are horrifically incompetent. For B), the worry didn't appear to be the forces actually on the Wall, but the inevitable reaction force that would come and take it back. One of the victims of the slaughter mentioned something about how they didn't expect the spider tank things to show up as soon as they did. For C), with the whole thing being planned by whathisface, he probably wanted the Resistance fighters to feel victory before they were crushed to coerce more emotion and grief and whatever for the summoning. I'm assuming that those two weren't simply given the spider tanks and their control thingy by the Garleans, but managed to steal them and bring them to the Wall. Or something. Plot. Edit - THEN AGAIN THE WOL JUST LITERALLY WALKED THROUGH THE FRONT DOOR SO
  5. What do you mean all Duskwights are thieves? One very nice one sold me some moonscreen to protect me from moon burns. I didn't even know I needed it! If it wasn't that I'm trying to portray my character as being a pretty relaxed person, I'd probably go down the obnoxious route with no questions asked. I never noticed the lack of IC prejudice until you just mentioned it now honestly. How a lot of Ishgardian players don't play on the xenophobia is kinda of a shame. Joking about never crossed my mind until you said it as well, which is odd since I hear them everyday when I go to work. I think I could have a lot of fun with drunk T'errin and racist jokes. I adore Avenue Q btw. I need them for all future references.
  6. I really appreciate that you see why I was concerned about how to play this. I'm trying to find a nice balance between brutish and intellectual at this point, and I'll definitely need to think on how she'd approach a situation of a friend being pro-Resistance. I also agree on that I was trying too hard to make her prejudice clear, which just made it end up coming out very hollow and almost nonsensical in a way. I think I also need to try to work on the proper escalation as well, between how she'd act in a casual situation vs a bitter fight. That also another part of my concern on how to play this out. I really don't want to accidentally cross that line and make it seem like I'm attacking the person, and not their character. My character's issue is that she has had to respond to many Corpse Brigade and Resistance extremist attacks/thefts/thugs, while also dealing with the natural hostility of the Ala Mhigans living in LAM. While at the same time, being cultured (if that is the right word) enough to understand that not all Ala Mhigans are like them, but having to remind herself of that at times. I suppose I'm trying to go for both, but lean towards prejudice. This should actually help me out a lot. Thanks!
  7. Yea, I like that approach as well. I think I was too focused on trying to bluntly show her prejudice, rather than being more subtle and letting my partners put it together themselves. I also realized that it makes more since for my character to be more subtle about it anyway, since she is out representing the House of Splendors too. The thread Domri linked has already helped out a lot. I'm hoping I'll be able to improve myself with all of this new info.
  8. That makes sense. Like how the high-born Ishgardians treat the low-born ones. I'll have to keep this in mind - And this should make it easier! Thank you to the both of you!
  9. I've actually gotten no flack for the hate OOCly, I was just concerned that I was pressing on too hard with my partner during the Grindstone when he mentioned the aggressiveness OOCly. You actually put into words what I'm trying to go for, with trying to seem much less shallow. I'll have to find that master post and see what I can incorporate. I also forgot that there were Ala Mhigans in the Shroud until you mentioned LAM by name. Would the master post by chance have stuff on them as well, if you know? Thanks!
  10. I know the title is weird to say the least, but I've been worrying about it for a bit now. How do you show hatred for a group, or even an individual, without it being too much or obnoxious, but also actually showing a dislike for them? With Stormblood on the horizon, I thought it'd be fun/interesting to make my character have a strong distaste for people who are very ALA MHIGO, and thought I would be able to find that decent mid-ground where she'll express her dislike of the way they handle their cause, without being their exact opposite. The first time I tried it was at that Eorzean Alliance event in Ishgard, and said things in response to the Ala Mhigan crowds. I don't remember the exact words, but they were along the lines of "You should be happy that you're even here." and "Maybe if you'd all stop biting the hand that feeds you, they'd actually care.". Then when they left, I said "They're probably just gonna go raid another caravan.". After I left, I thought about it and really didn't like how I made her look like she extremely hated Ala Mhigans in general, but at the same time knew that it would be a decent hook if someone brought it up. Then I tried again at the last Grindstone, where I got paired up against someone playing as an Ala Mhigan. This time I went ahead and toned it down, starting the fight with "I thought I was done fighting Ala Mhigans for the day.", then after his response of "If there is a fight, we're at it.", I replied "If only you all would stop fighting everyone in Thanalan.". I felt right off the bat that sounded too tame and even endearing, which I didn't want. So, during the fight I emphasized the anger she was giving in her blows, and my partner started too as well. I thought I was pulling off the right amount of hate, until my partner mentioned OOCly about how incredibly aggressive the fighting was. Which I was conflicted on again. I'd really appreciate some tips and criticisms on how to hate, more-or-less.
  11. Like I told you last night, I hate how my part in escalating it went towards making you feel this way. Don't. You didn't do a damn thing wrong, and to hate someone over a post in a small forum would be as petty as hell. So you really have nothing to worry about. I hope your future experiences are much more positive than this was.
  12. If you can't find RP? That's a YOU problem. Not another person's problem. Stop being so entitled that people owe you roleplay. If you can't find it, it's your problem, no one else's. Maybe just, you know, step up instead of whine. You know, I don't recall stating that anyone should be entitled to RP. Instead, I've been saying that you're a giant turd if you go to a public event to not publicly RP, then proceed to tell people that's their fault they can't find RP. I understand that Ala Mhigans are probably incapable of reading in the game, but you can drop character in the real world, you know.
  13. They're not supporting anyone but they're small group if you're just RPing with them at a public event, and it is extremely silly to say that they're trying to keep the potential of unexpected interactions when they're avoiding the primary channels that allow it. A lot of people have various health/anxiety issues when trying to publicly RP, and I really do feel for them, but what about the person who also has severe social anxiety and is trying their hardest to RP just to be brushed off (at a public event no less)? That's as rude as hell, as well. Then they have people demonizing them by telling them that it's their own fault that they were ignored. There are a million reasons on why someone could have missed something in /s or /sm, but there is missing something, then there is ignoring it by using a private channel to get away from it. People can say that they don't mean to be ignoring /s or /em, but that is what they are doing by using private channels. Saying something multiple times doesn't magically make it okay. Simply saying "I didn't mean to ignore /s and /sm" doesn't magically mean they didn't do it. If they're looking for a change of scenery or special backdrop, there are hundreds of places to go. If someone goes to a public event, they should be prepared to publicly RP with others, or accept that what they are doing is pretty messed up for those who came to a public event to try to make connections, and not try to defend their actions. You are correct, no one is obligated to RP with anyone. That doesn't make them immune to criticism though, and if they're not in the mood to RP with strangers, they shouldn't go to an event where there will be a lot of strangers then try to defend their actions when someone finally says "wtf?". I think its extremely unfair that people tell new people that they should be expected to be ignored at large public events, then say it was their own fault because they don't know anyone. Why do they need to set something up OOCly, or stick to smaller events to try to get RP? I never said that groups shouldn't be allowed at public events, but question why they are there if they're just gonna privately RP anyway. If someone wants a break from the chat scroll at a public event, they can slip to the side and away from the main floor. Going to a private channel, then staying in the main area, is messed up. There is no justification for ignoring /s and /em when at a public event. This community is insular enough (a reputation that many of you don't seem to realize is there), ignoring people at public events in favor of RPing privately is just gonna make it worse.
  14. I'm going to be very blunt and say that this thread absolutely boggles my mind. I was at the Gala for a short period of time last night as well, I didn't really expect much RP and my intention was really just on gathering hooks for the possible future, since I was going to be going to the Grindstone anyway. I was completely floored by the amount of people just sticking to their small groups, and yes, completely ignoring those who actually tried to engage themselves in it. Let me emphasize this - COMPLETELY IGNORING THOSE WHO ACTUALLY TRIED TO GET INVOLVED I have no trouble saying that I had a bad taste in my mouth when I left, and am very glad that the people at the Grindstone were very different. However, then I get on here, see this thread, and am once again floored. I can't believe that people are actually saying shit like "It's your own fault that no one paid attention to you.", "Don't go to public events to make contacts.", or "People usually use private channels at events.". Like, do you people realize how outrageously dumb this stuff sounds? Then proceed to have the gull to tell them "You just gotta get out there."? Are you kidding me? That's top of the line BS. If you go to a public event, then proceed to use a private channel at it, why are you even there? Yes, the scroll does get real, but that's a piss poor excuse to completely ignore /s and /em when you knowingly went to a public event. Hell, it's a piss poor excuse when you watch someone walk up to you and target you. Yes, people who basically do nothing (Like I did at the Gala), but expect others to RP with them is silly. People who actually try to get involved, but get ignored? No, that's absolutely not okay at all, and there is zero justification for it. I didn't expect this to be my first post on here, but holy hell this thread rustled me hard.
