Prince Klari saw that the Hyur girl's eyes were fixed upon the "Duke". He realized that if he wanted answers she wasn't going to be the one to give them. But she could lead him to someone who did. I mildly irritated Klari that this "Duke" was unknown to him still, but he would make it his business to find out who was funding the lavish party. He briskly walked back down to the bar to get a better view. His long Duskwright ears helped pinpoint the conversation between the Girl and another Miqo'te woman. "Hmmm...contest. If I know the Duke's type that girl will either be dead or scarred in more ways than one by dawn." He thought. Klari sighed. He knew that if he wanted to get to the bottom of the mysterious "Duke" he would have to ignore whatever befell any of the guests. His assistant, Arianne, often lamented his heart was both a weakness and strength. But today he would have to ignore it. Besides, the girl was exceedingly rude to him, not to mention obviously out of place in such lofty company. He made sure that he walked past their table as he made his way to the "Duke's" throne, knowing his guards would spring into action. He sat his glass of Riesling on the final table before the dais and noted his attempt to woo the Miqo'te at his throne. Klari eyed the armed men slowly turning their attention to him. He shouted up to the throne... "DUKE! Prince Klari of the Bloodsands Consortium. You feast in my city and have not the nerve to introduce yourself to her handlers!" he bowed sarcastically.

"Silly lowborn girl..." he thought. Prince Klari could always recognize one of his own. Orphans, forgotten children of whatever conflict destroying their families. He knew she was out of place the moment she spoke. The "Prince" in his name came not from his birth but the flair for which he fought with in the pits. He then studied Ishgardians on his trade routes in the early days of the Consortium. Their painstaking attention to manners and etiquette intrigued him, so he adopted many of their ways. Klari may have seemed refined and polished outwardly, but he knew Pearl Lane...and her people just as well. Klari stood up from the table after the woman abruptly left. He'd mention it later but he realized there was no wine in his system. He made his way to the bar, ordered a glass of whiskey, downed it then a glass of dry Riesling, one of his favorites to sip casually. He left a generous tip. "Now where did she go?" he said internally. Klari scanned the room and quickly saw she was talking to a brusque gentleman. He noticed her lack of interest in the man's comments and even picked up on a sigh that could have easily turned into a loud moan of exasperation. He walked near her and nodded to the gentleman then turned and quick whispered to the woman. "Your acting needs work..... " He smiled and walked back upstairs to survey the party a bit longer.

Prince Klari carefully read the invitation to this "Duke's" Ball. He loved the pageantry of them, but often hated the people. Wealthy children of merchants who never worked a day in their lives. Syndicate members and their cohorts guzzling down expertly crafted spirits, eating finger foods that the urchins of Pearl Lane would kill each other over, he hated those people. And yet strangely, he was now one of them. A few would recognize him from the fighting pits, even more from his dealings as head of the Bloodsands Consortium, so he hoped it would be a small affair. He scanned the invite again. "Thal's Balls...The Shining Diamond?" he muttered to himself as he clasped his expertly tailored Gambler's longcoat. "I suppose anonymity might be impossible." As he walked out of his Emerald Avenue penthouse and marched with little hurry to the Ballroom. He entered and before he could be greeted immediately walked to the top floor to get a lay of the event. As he gazed across the massive event he spied a sandy blond, well-dressed Hyur. "There's our "Duke"." he chuckled to himself. He looked down an to his right at a lone Hyur women. Her blue dress popping out among the dark, polished mahogany floor, its neckline plunging deeper than Witchdrop. "Well, this evening may have gotten interesting." he said quietly. Klari walked down to the main floor and quickly eyed the wine selection at the bar. He was not impressed. He finally approached the lone woman and bowed. "A woman that knows her wine...not many Ul'dahns fancy a glass of Malbec." He said. "Prince Klari of Bloodsands Consortium. May I have a seat?" He asked with a friendly smile.

Prince Klari awoke in his Emerald Avenue office with a stiff neck, enveloped by his Manor style high-back chair. "More padding next time, Beatin." he said as he stretched his long arms over his head. Trying to loosen the tightness in his shoulders. He let out a sigh as he glanced at his desk. Countless order forms, countless meeting notes, countless tasting cards. He smirked. Klari loved his life now, it was a far cry from the Bloodsands. He never enjoyed fighting in the Pits, but he understood his talents. Now, knowing he'll never have to fight again, he developed other ones. Trade came as naturally as fighting to Klari. He taught himself his letters and sums, and reading people and their movements was a necessity in the Pits. All Hydaelyn's blessings he used to create his company, The Bloodsands Consortium. Now he sat in his main office, along the busiest street in all of Ul'dah and thought "more". Just then, he was interrupted by loud footsteps. "Whatever are you still doing here, ser!? Still working into the night?" he heard a woman say just outside his office door. "Ahem. Yes, Arianne....and do not lecture me about it." he said dryly. Arianne was his assistant for more moons than he could count. A stunningly attractive Highlander, which he thought was oxymoronic, that was educated in Sharlayan hence her absurdly posh accent. She walked over to his desk carrying a large bottle of Wineport's newest Merlot. She sat it on the desk, and furrowed her brow. "These chairs, for as lovely as they may be, are not for sleeping, ser." she walked behind the desk and motioned for him to turn in the chair sideways. He did so. "Always working.." Arianne said as she began to massage his upper back and shoulders. "This is quite inappropriate, Ari" he said half smiling. A few moons ago, on a routine visit to Aleport, the two fell into their cups and shared a bed. The memory of the night remains hazy at best to Klari. Arianne felt it best to not remind him. "Enough.." he waved her to stop and stood, leaning on his desk. "Another review I assume?" he said picking up the bottle. The major Eorzean ale and wine makers often contacted Klari to taste their new products. He often preferred to do so for the smaller, more creative vineyards but he would humor Wineport today. He popped open the bottle and walked over to an ornate cabinet that housed various glasses. He grabbed two wide bowled glasses by the stem and poured the wine into them. Klari shook his head as he lifted the glass to the light. "Muted, murky, boring." He said with little enthusiam. He then brought the glass to his nose, sniffed and took a small taste. "Earthy, Oak, hint of pepper, clove, boring." "And what should I tell Wineport of their muted, earthy, boring wine, ser?" Arianne chuckled as she sipped. "Wait a fortnight longer for the rest of the barrels, and stop cramming so many plants on one plot." he said. "I shall, ser. I'm off to Horizon to make sure our shipment to Limsa gets to Vesper Bay on time." Arianne took the bottle and sat her glass on the desk. She smiled at Klari, bowed and walked out. Klari smiled back and watched her as she left, her loam brown Uraeus coat barely hiding her curvaceous frame. "Gods, be good." he muttered. Klari got back to work mulling over orders to every far flung corner of Eorzea, and realized it was almost time for the flagship location to open down the street. He liked having his office away from the day-to-day operations of the Consortium's storefront. He'd get bogged down by his love for people and thrill of reading them. Today, he figured he'd tend the location himself and give the shopkeep the day off. Walking down Emerald Avenue reminded him of everything he loved about Ul'dah. The smell of Pelican steaks being grilled, the constant hum of the markets and the Sandsea, the Thanalan sun beating down on Hall of Flames, its flags fluttering in the wind. He'd not trade Ul'dah for anywhere else in the world. He arrived at his shop, not a stones throw from where he'd stand in preparation for a fight in the Pits. His shopkeep was unlocking the door and was surprised, almost in awe, to see his employer. "My good man! I'll be tending our wares today, here tis your daughters nameday, correct?" he said. "Y-ye-Yes, m'lord. Erm..ah Sir." the shopkeep stammered. "Here.." Klari handed over a small satchel containing a moderate amount of gil. "Give her a good one!" He said. The shopkeep bowed, and feverishly thanked him and walked off in elation. Klari flipped around his "open" sign and walked in and began taking inventory of the meads and wines. Arianne, as attentive as ever, had already completed the herbs, spices and teas. Klari filled a mug with a weak cider from Gridania and sat behind the counter and scribbled the day's starting inventory in his small notepad. "Hope today's busy..." he said with excitement in his heart.

Just shoot me a tell ICly and Prince will set up a meeting to discuss menu/drink options as well as parings for wines. He also has premium wines for wealthy or VIP clients. All paid for in IC gil...no need for me to have a real gil exchange. Feel free to add me to friends.

Welcome! Some of us sneak a RP session in at work!:cactuar: There's always people on Balmung!
-
Hello! Just introducing myself Prince Klari here, I'm on Balmung. Got a FC already and well into the server. But more RP homies is never a bad idea. I'm on the Eastern Standard Time so if you see me online feel free to send a tell! My character, Prince Klari, is a former orphan who wandered into Ul'dah and ended up a fighter in the Colosseum. He used his winnings to purchase a small shop on Emerald Avenue that eventually grew into Bloodsands Consortium, an Eorzean-wide trading company specializing in wines, meads, spices and herbs. He's in his late 20's and while most might take him for a monetarist he's a staunch supporter of converting Ul'dah into a Democratic Republic. Klari is somewhat of a sommelier too, so if your FC needs some great wines to add to your event, he's your guy! People who follow the pit fighters will probably recognize him as very few Elezen fighters rose to prominence in his day. Thanks and I'm happy to be here and look forward to seeing you all!

I. Basic Info Characters:Prince Klari Primary character:^^^^ Linkshells:The Rosebuds Primary RP linkshell: N/A [*][*][*][*] II. RP Style I like to have usually quick sessions. A long drawn out RP usually doesn't work well with my IRL schedule so I like to pop in have some conversations, build some relationships then head out. I'm down for a longer RP if I can. I just don't like to cut sessions short abruptly. Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Light to mid. For as much as I love exposition, so much can be conveyed through the emotes and what not. I also shouldn't be privy to other people's states of mind. So I usually stay away from players who explain their characters thought process. Views on RP combat and injuries: Free-form is fine. Rolling is too up to chance and I don't like random elements in story building personally. We can hash out the flow of a fight no problem. I usually don't RP fights anyway. Views on IC romance: Why not? Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Even better! Views on lore: I really like to stay within Lore boundaries with realistic stretches. I'm fine if someone is a Dragoon but you probably shouldn't be in an entire FC of them. I also think that at max level major story events are fair game. There's no way that something like Ishgard's power shift doesn't impact a very wealthy trader like Prince Klari. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Quotations are key. A /tell can be great for asking a OOC question. But it can also be used as a whisper. It really all depends, I'm flexible. [*][*][*][*][*][*] III. I thought WHM was a forbidden art, not lost?...if so there is a difference there. Either way, I have noted many dragoons calling themselves knight dragoons or retired dragoons. I saw someone call themselves a dragoon reservist, meant to go active should war start once more. Forbidden, lost whatever. My point is that really only the Padjal are supposed to know white magic and the WOL is the ONLY non Padjal to even have a smattering of training in it. And yet...we have WHM RPers. So I mean...I don't see the alarm here.
-
I honestly don't see the issue here. Dragoons can salute and acknowledge other Dragoons. It's doubtful that you would EVER be in RP with ALL 30 or so IC Dragoons at the same time. So why why get all bent out of shape. People RP as Paladins (very few), Scholars (lost art), SMNs (lost art), WHMs (lost art), etc. All the time. If anything this should IMO INCREASE people doing open RP or walk-ups to the IC Dragoons because they would be basically famous to Ishgardians. To even RP and make your own story is lore breaking in-and-of itsself because we are all WOL, technically. If you enjoy RP as a DRG, continue to RP as a DRG. Just know the rules have changed abit, but this is supposed to be FUN. And being the lore police over something like this imo is silly. Unlike say, being a Samurai or Red Mage when the jobs or lore hasn't been even introduced in the canon yet.
