I just finished the Hildibrand quest. And just.....wow.

 

 

 

 

I wanted to know more baout the Ul'dah and Sil'dih conflict. It seemed that thanks to this war even the Amal'jaa were effected. Not to mention all the zombies left around the desert. Further more the Thaurmaturge Guild master quip about Beastmen working alongside Ul'dah really got me curious. Will this information be addressed later? Also does this mean there are more who could be decedents of Sil'dah and not know it? Will this get addressed with more content? or is this a one quest pony. Plus making zombie powder hints as possibilities with necromancy. (A type of magic I'm partially obsessed with the concept of. Example: White magic actually being a crude form of necromancy in which healing magic can actually be used to go above and beyond simple 'restoring life' ) What I'm getting at is did finding out about the conflict in question make you wonder how much of the gold that flows through the city is truly tainted? What more can be buried in the golden sand. Heck it'd be a great prompt to discover a book about this history and keep it from the hands of those who want to keep everyone in the dark.

 

 

 

Makes me want to make a character just for acrhelogy discoveries! Maybe when machinist or a class with a whip comes out. (for Obvious Reasons.)

Hopefully more lore on the plight of the Amalj'aa will be addressed in the future. Prior to the Fall of Ala Mhigo 20 years ago, the Beast Tribes and the Eorzean city-states were actually (in large part) allies. A major contributor to the recent divide has to do with Gaius van Baelsar's anti-Eikon/Beastmen propaganda which was dropped via linkpearl into Eorzea by the XIVth legion in the Age of Calm 15 years ago.

 

Ixali existed in peace with the Gridanians until 1422 6AE when the Elementals banished them and struck from them their feathers. The Kobold were close allies with Limsa Lominsa until Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn won the Trident and became Admiral roughly 10 years ago. It was actually the Kobold who taught Lominsans what they know of alchemy and metallurgy. The Sahagin were a peaceful race until the first summoning of Leviathan in 1567 and the subsequent rise of the Scarlet Sea Devil. However, Limsa is still peaceful with the Qiqirn, Goblin, and Mamool Ja beast races today.

 

But as you can see, the game provided a good bit of lore on Eorzea's recent alliances with the Beast Tribes, with the exception of the Amalj'aa. We know the Amalj'aa fought alongside Ul'dah in the War of the Sisters 400 years ago, but we do not know when exactly they stopped being allies. We do know the Amalj'aa were the first Beast Tribe to summon their primal, Ifrit, to Eorzea in 1564 - an event which killed many miners in the now abandoned Amajina's T-3 Mythril Pit. It could be that this was the start of hostilities between the two, but we don't yet know for sure.

 

 

EDIT: Have a specific date for the exile of ALL beastmen from Ul'dah: 1562 6AE, or 15 years ago. Was doing research on another topic and found the answer in this old newspaper article: Mutamix's Materia - Adventurers Delighted, Merchants Divided

 

“Beast tribe” is a designation of Garlean origin, given to those races the Empire deems detestable. Equivalent to an earmarking for extermination, the label is attached on account of association with primals—beatific beings who, amid certain circles, command godlike reverence. In stark contrast, the primals are held in highest hatred by the Garleans, who, besides calling them by the derogatory denomination eikon, have sought to suppress with startling single-mindedness any species suspected to summon them.

 

It was approximately ten years ago that the last of the beastmen was driven out from Ul’dah. Faced with an impending imperial invasion, the Syndicate passed a policy to purge the sultanate of all beastmen, who found themselves unceremoniously banished by the bevy. Overnight, the sight of sylvan crystal merchants and goblin junk dealers alike up and vanished from the Sapphire Avenue Exchange. Despite the decree’s dubiousness, it was warmly welcomed by the majority of merchants, who regarded reduced rivalry with relish.

 

Now, it doesn't specifically say that the Amalj'aa were forced out in 1562, later prompting their primal summoning in 1564, or if the Amalj'aa left before this time period. But at least we now know that there was a decree mandating the exile of all beastmen from Ul'dah, which stands today that none are allowed within Ul'dahn soil.

Necromancy is a recurring thing in Thanalan's history, stemming back before Ul'dah and Sil'dih to at least Belah'dia. You may find this recent thread on necromancy interesting. Covers a good bit of lore surrounding the relationship between Thaumaturgy and Necromancy, as well as the history behind it.
