Kheostic Posted September 25, 2015 Share #1 Posted September 25, 2015 I apologize if this has been covered, I have searched bing, google, and typed in the machinist but couldn't find anything (probably doing it wrong) Anyways, I am in a small rp style fc but now that I've seen some cooler things I'm starting to think of playing a new character. What I was wondering is what the roleplay community feels would be a good choice of pre Heavensward class/job turning into Machinist. I do plan on crafting, just struggling with what would make a good researcher/builder/user of magitek. Link to comment

I don't think your in-game class/job really should matter if you just want to say your character is a builder. I feel that whatever the game character is doesn't necessarily have to mean your character is that. Really, just play what you want to play until you get to MCH. I think Archer has some cross-class skills with MCH, so that may be your best bet if you want some sort of utility to use alongside your MCH abilities =) Link to comment
Lydia Lightfoot Posted September 25, 2015 Share #3 Posted September 25, 2015 Mechanically speaking (hah, pun) and not in terms of RP at all, you get cross-class skills at level 34 from Lancer and level 34 from Archer. Archer's playstyle (being ranged DPS) will be the most familiar playstyle as a Machinist. So, my advice would be to begin as Dragoon and proceed with a hard focus on your Main Story quests (MSQ) until you reach 34. While working on your Main Story Quests, do work on your Lancer Hunting Log for additional experience, and once you unlock your Challenge Log you can get some nice exp bonuses from that by doing dungeons and fates (and it resets weekly). Do your daily dungeon and guildhest roulettes for bonus exp. When you reach 34 Lancer, switch to Archer and re-level to 34. This is a good reason for why you avoided sidequests before, because your main story quests will be somewhere around 30-32 when you reach 34 Lancer, so you'll get to use all those lower-level sidequests to help you catch up your Archer. Try to crush out to 16 Archer in one sitting (it'll only take a couple hours) because level 16 is when you can start being able to do your dungeon roulette again and the daily bonus from that will be a big help. Carry on with Archer until you unlock Machinist. Presto, you have all of your potential cross-class skills for Machinist unlocked the moment you get the class. Hooray! Link to comment
