  1. Idk if it'll help, but I try to play the tribe as close to the animal counterpart as I can. For example, Val being part of the Wolf tribe, I have the tribe stick mostly to forests and split into smaller sects/packs. They were very tribal in nature and followed game and lived off what the forest provided. Since i had Val's split, it made sense that other Wolf people he came across (few and far between tbh) would have a different story hope it helped!
  2. ngl, I far prefer something like this to blind rolls. It looks fun!
  3. White Magic doesn't do this. It takes from the world, just like Black Magic. Which is the issue. I know they need elemental approval or some bullshit, or that's how it was explained to me. Idk, I don't play boring classes :v Only to be taught the discipline. Aaaahh okay! That makes sense, then. Thanks Lia <3

  5. Red magic isn't the same as Black and White magic. Black magic takes from the world and, as far as I recall, White magic takes from the elementals. Red magic, instead, uses the caster's own aether instead of that from the world around them. The spells won't (or shouldn't) be as powerful--keeping in line with the Red Mage being a jack of all trades/master of none, but it allows them to cast the spells without having the same limitations of others. As to how this knowledge exists, the black/white mages bailed after the war and developed the techniques to allow them to safely cast without harming their surroundings in the process. I don't think it would be banned so much as very hard to come by since it's more or less ancient information that's only been passed down by those people. Though I imagine there exists ancient texts or whatever that could be found and such.
  6. To be fair, SE forgot how to write a good story after 12. None of this surprises me, so I don't really bother with giving it that much credit. For what it's worth, I was pleasantly surprised by some of it--and the rest, such as Lyse being Lyse, more or less reminded me of how awful the writing in the game is/can be.
  7. Maybe someone can enlighten or correct me on this, but from my understanding, interior housing, inn rooms and apartments also take up space in the instance servers for the entire data center. So while other servers don't exactly need it, I think overall its a plus to clear up whatever amount of space AFKers use up in that regard. (Sometimes I can't even enter my own FC house to access merchants or melders ) No, that's pretty much correct. It could be the case that SE has different pools of instance servers for things, like keeping housing instances per world and then sharing dungeon/raid/trial instances, but I'm not sure if there'd really be a benefit to splitting them up. Then again, thye very well could be doing it this way which would explain why they have to add more housing even to unpopulated servers to make room for the larger servers. With how the behavior of personal quests went during the 90k fest of early access, I imagine they're pooled pretty specifically. I got past Raubahn EX pretty early, and even though I was leagues beyond the zerg fest still stuck at Rauhbahn, the occasional random story instance would still DC me. And it wasn't a fluke, either. Sometimes it took me 10+ tries of spamming the NPC to get it to work.
  8. Yeah you're EU playing on a US server. It sucks but the times they're going to aim for are when the US players aren't busy. I'd expect the same for a EU server dropping during someone else's prime time. Yes but they bring down all servers at the same time, so EU server go down at 8/9/10pm in the evening. They could at least stagger it by server, or area. They didn't do that afaik. They brought down Aether and Primal at 12 PM PDT. I had friends on EU servers who stayed online the entire time. Unfortunately, EU players on a NA server are going to get shafted. THey are not the intended primary userbase of that NA-centric server. Especially when SE runs an EU datacenter. Pretty much this. Ilu UM. Basically, EU players on Balmung have no room to complain since they're not the intended userbase. If they're here, cool. That's their choice. But ultimately, SE is going to time things based on the NA prime schedule. I'd expect them to do the same for EU databases too. I honestly don't know if the EU data center went down, but I highly doubt it.
  9. ngl I've taken naps and had Faye call/text me when she sees me log in.
  10. No way in hell am i waiting for 3 hours of my 5 hours off work to play a game. You can be sure as hell I'm going to remotely try logging in from work so that I can be greeted by a smaller queue when I get home. FFXIV has a handful of third party launchers. Some of them were to launch the game using WINE on Linux. (Google it.) It goes back to the "I'm still paying for this subscription" mentality. Sure, I could just play on another server, but if I'm not going to be able to socialize with the people I want to socialize with, why am I paying that sub? I might as well just hang out with them in person. This. Time is money. Time is precious. Time is something you can't get back and is why I take my own time very seriously. And if people want to use a remote connection to log in and they have the know-how and ability to? Let them. Idgaf if it's fair or not. Learn how to do it if people have problems with it. I do have other things I can play/do, but when I'm gearing up for a raid/whatever and it requires me to be able to play/farm things and I can't, that causes actual issues.
  11. Most people don't know how to do that. And if they're smart enough to, they're likely smart enough to look active as well. The bulk of users I deal with daily (work and personal) are either IT or they barely know how to run/install programs and curse Windows Update. Also, it still kicks off the PS4 players who can't access their system remotely without an additional set of hoops to jump through. The best people that don't know what they're doing can hope for is an online tutorial showing people how to do it. And since this is temporary at best, it likely won't be worth it. Then again, it's the internet, so.. maybe. And I'd imagine the PS4 AFKers are such a small percentage that it won't make a massive difference. Granted, that's just a guess and there could be far more of them than I think.
  12. Only one way to find out! I'll be home in two-ish hours as well. We can build a camp fire and sing songs together while we wait. I have a balcony. Terrible idea, I'm a horrible singer. Same. We can be bad together! \o/

  14. Someone already told me the queue is up to 3k. So what exactly was this reportedly fixing again? Because as far as I can tell, it has accomplished absolutely nothing aside from scrambling the order of people legit playing the game.
