What is Saint Reinette’s University and Orphanage?

Saint Reinette’s University and Orphanage is a School/Mercenary free company based out of a manor in the Lavender Beds. Ward 2, plot 33. A mix of lessons, school events, combat missions, and common slice of life RP; the University is active most days of the week. Touting a ‘seasonal MSQ’ the company goes through seasons (school years) in which there is an overarching story arc. It is a medium to heavy RP FC with a focus on character building and plot progression.

 

The School also operates a tavern down the road from the Manor, in ward 2, plot 54. Based on the aesthetic of dark noir films, it’s a jazz lounge with heavy 1960’s inspiration.

 

How does Saint Reinette’s handle it’s recruitment?

Recruitment for the company involves a short questioning out of character; followed by an in-character interview. Interviews are intended to help flesh out characters and have a concise reasoning of how and why they are apart of the school. Process takes a half hour.

 

Students are provided accurate lore about the world of Hydaelyn; as well as real world knowledge applied in the setting. You're never too old to learn. Those who seek friendship, education, free meals, and a provided room, are all welcome to attend. With classes held throughout the week, monthly events, tavern nights, and various school clubs.. learning has never been more fun!

 

In addition to students, the university is broken up into several key staff, listed as following.

 

Administrative Staff:

Administrative staff is the catch-all position for those who hold a position related to the operation of the school. Administrative staff includes teachers, the headmistress, secretary, and other key roles.

 

Medical Staff:

The medical unit is an integral part of the University, keeping staff and students healthy, and well maintained. Performing medical examinations; and making sure people from distant lands are free of diseases.

 

Security staff:

In an effort to prevent fighting among those from various lands, security staff are folks who don't mind standing guard; or participating in security missions to help maintain the school's safety. Heavily armed nothing will get by these protectors of Reinette.

 

Research and Development staff:

Engineers, machinists, Ex-Garlean magitek operators; this staff position revolves around the creation, and maintenance of machina that helps the school in various ways. Composed of the best; and brightest, technology will shape the future of the school; and possibly Eorzea.

 

Support Staff:

The Support Staff division is composed of staff that help the operation of the school in various ways. These are crafters, gatherers, merchants, or other supportive roles such as cooks, groundskeepers, and so on.

 

Residents:

People who live at the university, but are currently not studying or taking an active role in its operations.

Welcome to the Free Company of Saint Reinette University! We are a slice-of-life learning-and-education FC open for recruitment. We welcome light-to-medium role-players interested in the exciting day-to-day activities of joining an university in Eorzea.

 

 

We are a small FC/LS that focus on the education side of life. This means that an university is the perfect place to learn. We give different classes that lean closely tothe game lore aswell as other possibilities that could work in a university.

 

An University is still a place of learning and to stick as close to the real life counter version, tests and overall grades will be given based on different actions during class as well as extra activities (think clubs).

 

That being said we also focus on the relationship side of university. Meaning fratirnities, sororities and off campus clubs. Friendship is a valuable thing at university, be it between students as well as their teachers.

 

 

Currently the university is like it's real life counterpart. This means that it's build up in sort of a hierachy. Meaning a principal at the top. A certain numbers of teacher that give their subject aswell as possible security and a school counselor. The student council who will relay ideas to principal or the teachers. Off course you also have the students. who can choose to follow any given class.

We’re a medium RP FC through and through, we embrace realism and mature behaviour / actions into our RP. One such being consequences for your in character actions that’d of course vary depending entirely on said actions! An example of this being we’re not the warriors of light, we are not some worldwide unbeatable adventurer. We’re teachers and students! So we’re bound to end up making mistakes and in occasion some light hearted university related drama.

 

Now I’m not saying that with the themes we embrace, everything will be downright grim. we tend to have classes about as much different aspects inthe game as possible. and off campus activities with friends are always encouraged.

 

We have our preferred RP style as touched upon in the above, and try to maintain quality over quantity. That saying could often be misinterpreted as saying we’d only take in people with years of experience. But I can assure you that isn’t the case, everyone was new at some point, be it to RPing, or simply the Lore of a new game to RP in. We’re here to help each other, and grow our community together! So we’ll gladly do what we can to support those along the way, who are interested in joining us for the ride.

 

 

As usualfor a university there will be classes. These are our main RP events. Be it from martial arts class to magic class, aswell as history.

From time to time there will be class related trips, to give class on location (think visiting ruins, for history class.)

 

That being said, this doesn't mean you aren't allowed to plan your own events within the FC. Think a late night party with fellow students and fraternity brothers or sorority sisters.

Our OOC FC channel is friendly and helpful. We welcome LGBTA folks, and don't allow homophobia, transphobia/transmisogyny, sexism, or racism in our channel. We enjoy being silly and having fun. We are not focused on endgame raiding, but are happy to do dungeons, trials, pvp, and raids together. We especially want to mentor 'lore addicts', helping you learn the lore within this game step by step. We typically have multiple players online at a given time, and we use discord to chat, voicechat and RP out of game, aswell as sharing things with each other.

The staff and students of the Saint Reinette's got together for a meal at the Mog Bar; hosted by the lovely folks from the Pathfinder's Society. They discussed the future of the school, and had a very pleasant evening.

Saturday at 4 PM EST is the school meet and greet at Fallgourd float; where in the staff and students get together to hold a meeting; and exchange introductions; as well as probably get together for a school (ooc) photo.

Wednesday; 3/23.

History Lesson.

 

The students and staff of St Reinette's got together for a field trip around camp bronze lake. Starting from Aleport; the group travelled up along the western bank of the lake. They stopped to discuss the nature of the fifth Umbral Calamity; as well as the nature of Thalaos.

Upon a safe trip around the lake, the group arrived at Camp Bronze lake to discuss the Fifth Umbral Era; and the War of the Magi. The class focused on the Nymian people, and the ancient city itself.

 

After the lesson; the class engaged in a game of "Capture Avoidance"; in hopes to find a fun way to teach the class to learn to dodge. By throwing a rubber 'dodge' ball; they threw the ball back and forth; until one team was left the victor.

With the game ending; the staff and students retired home; hopeful that some new knowledge was passed around amongst them all.

Monday 3/28

 

After a moderate amount of shock, and surprise; Kay'ran Dethnos revealed that he had inherited the Oathforge house; and him and his overseer Set donated the home to Higura Gainishigi. The overjoyed Miqo'te now had everything she needed to run a proper school.

 

She went to aleport to give the good news to the students.

 

The staff and students were unbelievably overjoyed; and the group set out from their temporary home in Aleport, traveling to their new residence in the goblet.

 

 

After an eventful journey, the crew finally made it to their new home; looking excited and hopeful for what the future would bring.

 

 

 

St. Reinette's University and Orphanage now owns a house.

Sunday 4/3

 

St. Reinette had its first combat class, hosted by the instructor Juno Inq this past Sunday. Students participating were given training weapons and randomly set against one another in a spar to determine both the aspects they need work on as a combatant and to give their teacher an idea as to how they move and think in a fight.

 

 

After each pair had finished and was properly treated for injury by the school's on-site doctor, they were given a few questions to answer as to their own performance and then given advice on how to better themselves on their path to becoming a well-rounded fighter.

 

 

Those who participated learned a bit about themselves as well as one another in their experience, as was the intent of the teacher running said class. Juno's notes have been taken on each student's performance and as such will be used to further their learning process in the near future, so look forward to more classes soon on her end.

Wednesday 4/6

 

Midweek; Headmistress Gainishigi took it upon herself to hold a class for the day, deciding to teach the importance of Engineering. Gathering in the recently constructed University Workshop; the staff and students.. as well as a few guests.. Gathered for the lesson.

 

 

The benefactor from RISK, Issabel Drake; took an exceptional interest in the class once it took a turn as a demonstration of Magitechnical prowess displayed by the University's very own airhead; Kalm Yugure.

 

Showing off his expertly crafted Compound blade; he managed to form both a longsword; and a greatsword into one weapon. The blades were named Dawn and Dusk. The new Magitek Teacher, Caomhan, also took exceptional interest in the blade; and agreed to help the young man perfect the weapon.

 

With the blade demonstration at an end; and the student body overly impressed; Higgie was approached with yet another person wishing to teach, as well as an old friend coming to visit. Cirina of the Malqir tribe. The two old friends caught up on times long past, and the two were ecstatic that St Reinette's was proving to be everything they hoped for.

 

However.. things took a darker turn that evening.

 

 

Juno Inq; the combat professor came to the headmistress; warning that someone was coming to kill her; and that she could not stop them. Leaving the school behind to face her past; she made it clear she was not returning.

 

With Juno gone; Ozelia, a Xaela from the security team offered to step up; and take the mantle of combat teacher, hoping to inspire the students in the same manner as Juno did.

Thursday 4/14

 

Ceres Lucretia hosted a history class at Saint Reinette's. Students and staff gathered and learned primarily the value of their history education and how such knowledge might do them well in many walks of life.

 

 

 

After a lengthy discussion a quick journey out to the Sil'dih ruins was made. Where the past of the war between Sil'dih and Ul'dah was discussed. Tying in to the previous lesson and reinforcing it's moral. That learning of the past can give insight onto the present and why people are as the are and decisions are made based upon the past.

 

 

With the lesson complete, after a bit of discussion about the origins of the two nations and where things went wrong between them, class dismissed and everyone returned mostly without event.

4/17

 

Today was the planned beach party in Costa del Sol. The staff, students, and friends of the university all gathered in Costa for some sun, sand, and good times. Gathered up, the group mingled amongst themselves until the first event of the day was announced. They were going to play Hide and seek.

 

 

The game went for three rounds, and the staff and students all took turns hiding, and finding their friends.

 

Afterwards, they took a small break, to indulge in the "Cereuleum Chef" competition, between Kalm Yugure and Hymmie; the school chef. The two battled it out, feeding the gathering with their two legendary skillsets; but eventually, Kalm was defeated by apparent superior taste.

 

 

Though somehow through the cooking competition; Kalm somehow lost more and more clothing. However, his manly spirit was not enough to take home the prize.

 

 

With the cooking contest complete, the staff and students gathered in a circle to participate in the dreaded game of "Fact or Trial." Wherein the group got together in a circle, and took turns questioning their friends, or giving them a challenge to take part in. Highlights included a sea cucumber getting lost in someones bikini top, A coconut and rock being smashed between thighs, and some rather daunting questions being thrown about.

 

 

Eventually the game drew to a close.

 

 

Gathering the group, they headed to a small island; in which they took part in the Universities very own combat tournament. Dubbed 'the Sandstone'; the combat would be similar to that of the grindstone, only no weapons; and relying upon the environment to defeat your opponents.

 

 

Eight combatants would enter. First place would take home their very own Orchestrion; whilst the runner up would receive 100k in prize money. They paired up, and started doing battle. The highlight of the tournament was definitely the match between Kalm Yugure and Higura Gainishigi; in which the two battled, and Higura threw up all over the place due to being spun around. The two fought with all manner of sea critters drawn by the tropical upchuck; including Starfish, Sea cucumbers and so forth. Eventually the battle was drawn to a close when Higura threw an Eel at Kalm; and he defeated it by smacking it with his own trouser Eel.

 

The Finale match was between Kalm Yugure and T'taloni Vheda; in which Kalm defeated her with his white knight abilities. Carrying her away from the beach; which was littered in dead sea animals and vomit.

 

Kalm took home the Orchestrion prize; and T'taloni took home 100k Gil.

 

While things got a little over the top; the school had a lot of fun, and everyone shared fond memories.

History with Ceres again! Today's topic of discussion Allag and it's fall. A large crowd had gathered for the lesson, even new faces decided to show, as well as some of the old. Hymmie the school chef even brought snacks!

 

 

As the lesson started to come to an end, however, the topic veered more from their history and towards their culture and interactions with the Void. And so people started to leave. The lesson ended with a round of questions of all sorts about Allag.

Another history class with Ceres and the first in Saint Reinette's new school room! The topic of discussion was Amdapor and the Padjals. A topic to lead up into the War of the Magi. After a brief discussion about their fall, conversation moved on to their magics and architecture.

 

 

The topic then shifted towards the legacy of Amdapor, how it became Gelmorra and then Gridania. As well as a brief discussion upon the Elementals. And, after a brief Q&A session as usual, the class dismissed.

THE BIG UNEXPECTED MOVE!

 

Due to a particular windfall Saint Reinette's found a new home. In the Lavender beds second ward. The thirty-third plot.

 

 

While everyone is still moving in, the place is still in a bit of disarray but classes and the like will continue as normal despite the move and remodeling!

One more time with feeling, it's History with Ceres! And in the grand new classroom at the brand new schoolhouse! Today's class was on Nym, another lesson to gear up towards the War of the Magi.

 

At first it's magics, tactics, and downfall was discussed. Why it became the target it did. But then the topics of tonberries and voidsent got the class a little off topic and discussing something a bit more philosophical for a bit, but with a bit of effort the class got on track and finished the brief lesson on Nym.

 

 

And so class adjourned with the promise of discussing Mhach next week!

St. Reinette's University held its first formal ball dance; staff and students gathered about the Manor's ballroom. Headmistress Gainishigi announced the rules of the dance; and entered all of the participants into a raffle, much to their surprise.

 

 

 

The dance proceeded apace, staff and students dancing amongst each other; and even the school's alcohol storage; the grandfather clock; saw much usage with the alcohol ban lifted for the party.

 

Much dancing was had by all; and the musical theme was Jazz/Swing; and everyone more or less enjoyed the musical choice.

 

 

Lots of cuteness ensued, and Kalm Yugure and Chryslinger Starhope even got engaged to be bonded, right on the dance floor.

 

 

Overall, everyone had a lot of fun; and lots of fun prizes were handed out, including a Gestahl and a Fenrir pup.

 

 

The staff and students made it clear they wanted more dances. Maybe the next one would be a public affair!

History class again with Ceres

 

 

This time a simple review session for new students. Briefly reviewing and going over all the topics reviewed thusfar! Quick simple and easy! And without much in the way of interruption.

Physical Education class with Jordan Kennedy. The Reservist Maelstrom captain, Jordan, joined the school recently to get the students all into shape.

 

 

The instructor set up a jogging course around the Lavender Beds for the students to follow, and they ran the length of the course, somewhat getting confused along the way due to the small Lalafell's map drawing skills.

 

 

They all stopped at the midpoint, to partake in pushups, and crunches, before gathering together to introduce themselves. They each talked about what area of improvement they needed to work upon; and then the Captain decided to motivate the students to race the rest of the way home... by chasing them on the back of her pet bear Cuddles.

 

Overall, a pleasant experience. (Minus the bear mauling. Especially the bear mauling.)

Surprise Science Class!

 

Headmistress Higura Gainishigi gathered some of the staff and students in the classroom to partake in learning about the basis of science, and the scientific method. She placed out some popotos, water, and some salt, and helped teach the basics of buoyancy through observation and experimentation.

 

 

The class then proceeded to try and explaining the theory of the cat in the box, which is both dead and alive. She did this by bringing out a crate she claimed was loaded with explosives, with a fat cat inside.

 

The class was not amused, but at the end of the day, the cat was never in any danger. The cat went to Z'ellia, and they ended the class by finishing up with a bit about Quantum mechanics.

He who reaches for the heavens, yet loses sight of the ground, will inevitably end up lost.

 

So goes the tale of the heroine Higura Gainishigi. In searching for ways to keep the school safe she worked with the R&D team on a controversial method to confuse the Elementals, and hide the University from their eyes. This action caused a ripple among the students and staff, and the school decidedly took sides either FOR or AGAINST the Elemental Defense System. Ultimately, many staff and students decided that they couldn't take it, and departed from the university.

 

 

"Education will be administered, at all costs. The Elementals won't stop me from ensuring that Eorzea's future is secure. I will do whatever it takes."

 

Defiant, Higura, and the remaining staff and students decided to pull together, and continue to work on ways to ensure the safety of the University, whilst maintaining a fun, and inclusive school atmosphere.

 

"The Elemental Defense System will proceed apace." She would declare, despite the Twin Adders investigating the large departure from the region.

 

 

"This is not the end. It will never be the end."

 

Higura declared to her friends and family. "This is only the beginning." She smirks confidently, and gazes upon the symbol of the Stag, remembering why she started her mission in the first place.

St. Reinette's University and Orphanage is open for recruitment once more after some downtime. There are many new staff positions open, as well as students being accepted. Many members of the FC left due to personal OOC reasons. (Though it didn't help when people had 5 alts in the FC per person.)

Magic 101: Conjury

 

Professor Evelyn Godwin gathered the students and staff of St. Reinette's at Carline's Canopy in New Gridania to take a short trip just the outside of the Blue Badger Gate to have an introductory lesson in Conjury. 

 

Through a discussion in the Twelveswood, the class discussed the basis of the Conjury discipline, focusing on the Elementals and the bonds created between the them and caster to produce the protective magic that so many have come to recognize. Each attendee took turns demonstrating their abilities to bond with the Elementals of Earth, Wind, and Water to cast the first spells of Conjury: Stone and Cure.

 

 

The class was met with a bit of rain during the segment on casting Cure, which aided the students in understanding the bond with the Elemental of water. The students were the targets of an individual Cure spell and were tasked with explaining how the spell felt upon contact. This helped them in understanding how the bond created between the caster and the Elementals of Wind and Water feels as the caster often feels that same warmth when casting!

 

Once all students cast their Cure spell, each then demonstrated proficiency on the Squirrels and Ladybugs just outside the gate! What a wonderful class we had!

 

The next Magic 101 class will be held in one week and focuses on the discipline of stark contrast: Thaumaturgy.

The big Memorial Day Beach Party.

 

The staff and students of St Reinette's University departed from the University building proper; early in the morning. They all met out front of the School building, and all shared Draught Chocobos for the journey.

 

The staff travelled through the shroud, into Thanalan. They made a few scenic stops along the way, with Headmistress playing tour guide to interesting destinations along the way. Stopping at a cliffside in the Clutch, in Thanalan; Higgie regaled the story of the founding of St. Reinette's University and how it was upon that cliffside that the idea was born.

 

 

The rest of the journey proceeded without incident, and they group made it to Costa Del Sol, for a day of fun at the beach. Along the way, they met a bard by the name of Mana; who played the harp quite well. She joined the school as a student, and agreed to play music for the group wherever they may go.

 

In Costa, they commenced things by starting off with a fashion show. Four judges, six contestants. Each wearing summer clothing, and telling them what they enjoyed about summer time. Lady Evelyn took home the first prize, followed by Mana, and then another new student by the name of Nina.

 

 

After the fashion show, the students and staff moved to the water, and partook in swimming, splashing, and all sorts of water-like activities. (Including drowning, in Kalm's case.)

 

 

After the swimming and socializing, the group got together for some traditional Doman food, courtesy of Ajisai, Vonnie, and a band of moogles who apparently don't mind following them around and helping, for whatever reason. The group induldged in Miso soup, onigiri, sushi, and other various foods laid out.

 

 

After that, began the games! Starting with a game of tug-o-war, the two teams faced off in the waters; but it turned out TEAM BRAWN managed to win, with the help of Kalm, Yuja, and Sami. The other team, being mostly scrawny women, was not the least bit surprised they lost. The prize for the winning team was a complete set of Zu horns.

 

 

The next game, the group gathered around Kalm, who had the group break pieces of driftwood by any means necessary. However, as the contest progressed, the stakes were raised; until Jordan Kennedy, the physical education teacher went home with the Wind up Leviathan prize.

 

 

Then the final game of the evening, was Volleybomb! Two teams faced off with a rubber bomb ball, and they hit it back and forth across a line. Eventually Team Kalm, Yuja, Jordan, and Ajisai won. It seemed that they were on a winning streak that night! The winning team walked home with a matching set of Garlic Jester minions.

 

The night winded down with gathering around a bonfire, and sharing spooky ghost stories. The party goers were extremely exhausted after nearly six bells of partying and events, so the night ended on a quiet note, with everyone retiring to their own devices.

Back to school! After an extended break coinciding with the end of the Dragonsong war; the students and staff cancelled classes for near a week and a half, to spend relaxing with their loved ones. (Mostly because we were all doing content.)

 

The school year resumed proper with announcements, each new staff member introducing themselves, promotions for existing staff; updated rule policies.

 

Following that was the announcement of the Ishgard camping trip over the coming weekend, as well as the New year school dance next week! Students were excited and everyone is glad to be back in the swing of things!

Combat Lesson: Balance, weight, and how to strike

Today in lesson the students were taught about the meaning of balance within a weapon, and how the variations of weight that are used in each  can affect the speed, and balance of a strike.

 

After that, a variation of balance and theory on how said things would work in battle, how to deal with the weight, and  a small lecture on how to do it, Professor Sayomi lead them to a more clearer place, in a circle she began to move everyone into a clear circle. She went to demonstrate each move of a technique, getting the students to follow closely after. Even if there was some hardships for some students to do this , with help and guidance, they were clear enough on the procedure in the end.

 

 

Next they moved ont testing the techniques and styles against one another, moving to use what was shown, and also encouraged to be creative with the styles of fighting. Encouraging them to properly adapt and use the skills shown to properly keep on foot and feel comfortable when in live combat.

 

After such, the victors were shown and they were gathered up to tell one thing they learnt of the lesson, before the students left, with more of a enlightened knowledge of weapon management, and how to use the balance to keep them advantaged.

Ishgard Trip: Historical tour of the highlands and the See

 

 

Today heralded the start of our three day trip to isghard!, Meeting at fallgourd float, we gathered up all our numbers.. as well as a few guests from Shiki's company also to head out into the cold north for the start of our history trip!

 

 

Soon enough we hit the cold hard weather of ishgard.. which we were all thankful everyone was wearing a thick coat too!, in time we hit the observatorium, in which the group was educated on the origins of the observatorium, the importance of the settlement in the war for ishgard, and the importance of the dragonstar in the war. After we set towards Dragonhead.

 

 

At dragonhead the group learned about the reasoning behind the dragoon trials, the pits on which heretics used to be punished, and the story that laid behind steel vigil.

 

 

We then set off to ishgard.. in which the group was taught on the plight of the brume.. and how the city hopes to change and improve the living conditions of the poor and downtrodden. Afterwards they set off towards the standing statue of saint Reinette, where the story behind her, and the link between the patron saint were made clear, and the plight of both saint and university were respect and honored deeply.

 

 

After the speech the group was told about the skysteel manufactory, and its importance to the ishgard.. as well as being informed about the jeweled crozier, and house durendaire.. they set off to the cathedral, were they were told about Halonic faith, and its importance to ishgard, and its grown culture over the years, as well as the church.

 

 

After a debate and talk upon faith, they were bought to the outside of the Vault, to convene and talk about the history behind the war, Thordan and the Holy see, and what the vault was used for, including the lie they had been keeping.

 

 

After convening and talking over the political intrigue of the tribunal, the astrologians guild as well as the importance and military command and tactic strategy that comes from the Congregation , the group ws sent to dismiss and rest.. with happy hearts and hopes for tomorrow!
