So who has character tumblrs?

In the past two MMOs I've roleplayed in, there's been some very fun IC and inspiration tumblr rings I've been involved in. I'd like to see that replicated with FFXIV, too. Some people make theirs strictly IC with text posts, other make them image inspiration based, and others (like me), make a combination of the two.

I find it helpful, when trying to get a good grip on my character, to browse through my character blogs before playing.

With GW2, people will regularly go around anonymously asking IC questions with the intent of making mini writing exercises. Sometimes they're silly questions, and sometimes they're very thought provoking, but they're always a lot of fun.

So anyone have character tumblrs? I'd love to see them (mine is in my sig)!

I'm pretty behind the times. I don't understand really what tumblr is. To my understanding it's.. a blog. With.. tags. Or something? xD

ANYWAY. I don't have a tumblr, per say, but I have an in-character journal on Wordpress. While I don't know many people who have tumblrs for their characters, I DO know a lot of people around here have IC journals posted in various places. Lodestone, linkshell websites, etc. :)

That looks really interesting. Like Aysun, I'm apparently behind the times here cus I'm not 100 percent on what they're supposed to do. I assume you can use them like character blogs, or like yours, with references to things that (I gather) relate to the way you see your character.

I'd kind of like to have an art one where Siobhain answers awkward questions via pictures. But then I'm weird.

Eva's journals have been around for forever!! And I sometimes shudder to think about how much time has gone into the writing of them, but they seem to be liked, and I think other players like to know what a character's innermost thoughts are.

Writing a journal in-character has really helped with getting into the character's head. It's obscenely long now (over 200 entries I know) and goes back to 2010, but we keep it on the LS site. After having to relocate it and build further upon it on a number of different LS forums after either leaving LS's or having them kind of fall apart, I can certainly appreciate why people would keep them somewhere more neutral like Wordpress or Tumblr. I'll probably add a link to my sig (at least until I get my wiki all spruced up nice).

It's good to see some blogs out there! I always find them fun to read.

For those of you who are confused about tumblr... It's basically a micro blogging platform. You make a blog, and dress it up prettily just like any other blogging service, though I'd say the customization options are a lot broader than most. The signature feature of tumblr is their "reblogging" system. That just basically means you can take someone else's posts, stick it to your blog, and add to it or just leave it be. People often use it to talk to each other, but most people just reblog pretty pictures.

A lot like other social networking sites you can "like" things and "follow people." Following just means you can see your friend's post on a feed called a dashboard.

Aaaand, that's about it. It's really deceptively simple. Hope to see some of you there!

That's why you make multiple tumblrs with different themes!

I have an art one, a fashion one, a personal one, one for each of my RP characters, one for... Nevermind. It's best you don't get sucked in...

One of us, one of us, one of us...

I'll consider making one for my characters once I figure out the transitionary period between 1.0 and 2.0 for them all. Most of my questions I have to help with that are still likely covered by the NDA, so its a bit of a waiting period.

I used to do journals religiously back in my EQ2 days; one of my journals had thousands of views before I stopped playing. They were done on a forum specifically for them, on a RP community site simular to this one, in some ways. There was also a site dedicated to nothing but journals that I cross-posted them all too.

Post-EQ2, I really fell out of the habit; between the massive amounts of time it took to run an RP city in SWG, and the shifting of games about every six or so months after SWG died...when we did seem to finally settle down for a game, I ended up an officer and most of my time got sucked away doing interviews and paperwork.

I finally started a character journal for GW2, however there's been such a decline of interest between myself and the guild I'm in over there...it's not really been updated much. There was just a really poignant RP that occurred, randomly, and I wrote out some journal for it.

I'm not sure if I'd use Tumblr for character journals, as I've gotten kind of attached to Blogger since it's release and subsequent upgrades. Most of my prior character journals for various games were moved to Blogger sites, since you can create multiple sites under one login; my stories from other games were moved to Blogger as well.

The nice thing about Blogger, Tumblr, and Word Press is that they're likely not going away any time soon, so data loss chances are minimal. As far as I'm aware, all three services have great back up schedules, are doing well revenue wise...so your blogs may as well be kinda eternal. xD

So, I was thinkin'...

All the Tumblrs linked here have the same, or similar navigation buttons. Can those be customized?

I guess what I'm looking for is probably...ideally the main site with character journal entries, then a few things on the side, such as Side Quests, Art, Achievements and a few other things that probably need their own customization as well.

The Side Quest section will be a list of 'quests' Molt is on. They range from small things that he's currently striving for, to larger things involved with other people, to an even larger main plot for his own story line. Then, I'd like to have a way of showing or listing quests that other RPers can either help him with or take on a quest of his own. It wouldn't be far from the in-game quest journal in theory. There's a lot of creativity behind it and especially for those interested in taking on his own created side quests (Which could be striking a deal with him, making him armor/weapon, adventuring with him randomly--ANYTHING) and it would provide a hint on how to more or less get your character at the right place and the right time to initiate it.

Each 'journal entry' would have to be it's own post, but the problem I could see with Tumblr is that it seems a little...'fixed', if that makes sense. I wouldn't be able to move around the entries (as it would be one after another, straight down).

Then there's Art, which would be straightforward-- screenshots and drawn arts of Molt and stuff. The layout doesn't need to be as picky, but a gallery rather than posts straight down would be nice.

Achievements was an idea I got to just put up unique things Molt has done in his RP or in his history. It would be modled after Xbox achievements, with a mostly witty title and the actual description underneath. Things like, "Just One Drink Can't Hurt-- Sit down at a RP Tavern for the first time in your FFXIV RP career", or "Stick 'Em with the Pointy End-- Become proficient with the one-handed sword". It would actually be pretty cool to come up with a bunch of these and have a main site that players can have a database of their achievements...if that makes sense.

I just thought about all this upon reflection of not wanting to bloat my wiki. No one wants to read one looooooooooooooooooooooooong (see, you skipped all those o's and went right here!) wiki page, but people seem content on traversing multiple sites if it's unique and intuitive enough. I mean, the Tumblrs themselves are a great example. Except I'm not quite sure I could get a Tumblr to work with me quite the way I'd want it. I'll have to test it out.

Heck, if there was just a website dedicated to this all this, or if I was good with any code, that would be awesome. Every user site would have personal entries for themselves (for their character to do mostly if not all on their own), and a list of entries for public-assisted quests along with a clue on how to get your character involved by 'accident'. It's not organized by date or order of entry posted, but can be sorted by Main, Side, and Public. When RP is made in game, at the end of the night or the next day, the user would update any quests, and other users involved in the RP (if it was an event or part of a story arc) could add themselves to the entry, and they would get updates on it. You can see who's involved in the story, see the actual written updates you've been posting on that particular story involving your character and reflect on the path that task, or quest, has gone.

Holy crap I need to patent this and find a web designer STAT!
