Rookie Judge Posted June 3, 2017 Share #1 Posted June 3, 2017 I recall reading that those who have the Order of Nald'thal, uh... "officiate", I suppose will suffice in lieu of whatever the proper word might be, their last wills can have a vengeance order appended to them. Some quick reading has shown that such orders cannot be levied against members of the Order of Nald'thal. However, I am curious if such exceptions extend to other government officials, such as the Brass Blades, Immortal Flames, Sultansworn, etc. To use a prominent example (possible spoilers ahead), if Teledji Adeledji had a vengeance order appended to his last will, would the Order be obligated to fulfill it against Raubahn Aldynn? A more general example might be a merchant (smuggler) who is lawfully killed by a Brass Blade during the course of his duties in service to the sultanate. Would the Order be obligated to fulfill the vengeance order despite the lawful killing? Link to comment
Sounsyy Posted June 3, 2017 Share #2 Posted June 3, 2017 Such circumstances weren't explicitly covered in the lore, but based on what we do know of the Order of Nald'thal, I highly doubt they would choose to carry out those vengeance orders. First, the Order isn't strictly beholden to carry them out- it depends greatly on how much of their wealth they gave to the Order in life and death. Vengeance orders alone are exorbitantly expensive. Second, as Dewlala the head of the Order of Nald'thal sits on the Syndicate also (and is charged with maintaining the balance between the royalists and monetarists) I don't think she would exact orders against one of her own. Considering how popular Raubahn is to the people and the Sultana it'd do a lot of harm to their order's popularity. Finally, it's the Order of Nald'thal who write the laws in Ul'dah. If a Brass Blade or Sultansworn was acting within the scope of the law they wrote, I also doubt vengeance would be exacted against them. Assuming the Brass Blade was acting within the law, that would mean the victim was acting outside of the Order's laws, and their Last Will may be forfeited in Thal's eyes. Hope that helps! Rookie Judge Posted June 3, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted June 3, 2017 Thank you for the information. I thought that such might've been the case, but decided that I should leave such inferences to those more knowledgeable with the lore. Link to comment
