Returning player, very new to RP

Hello everyone,

 

I am a returning player. I played FFXIV for a long time a while ago with a friend. Once my friend stopped playing because she worked a lot for her job, I kinda stopped playing too as I am not very social and I am often uncomfortable with people I don't know. I know someone who does RP in Grand Theft Auto V and from watching him I got interested in Role Playing. However GTA V is definitely not a game for me nor would I want to role play in that kind of universe. I really love the Final Fantasy franchise and think that Hydaelyn is a beautiful world. I decided to give Role Playing a chance, even though I am uncomfortable around people, I think that by playing as someone who isn't me (I will play a shy character tho), would help me being more social and feel more comfortable around people. I have no experience what so ever in role playing so the past few days I watched a few videos and read a few posts about guidelines of how to role play and avoiding pitfall etc. . 

 

As for my character (that isn't made yet, I will create a new character but the game is currently still downloading), I though of making a Young Lalafell that is discovering the world she lives in. (Kinda a reference to me discovering the world of RP) My Lalafell will be a female Dunesfolk (I don't have a name yet, but I will follow the lalafell naming convention) born and raised in a little village near Ul'dah. She never knew her father, as he left her mother shortly after being born. She was home schooled by her mother. For her 13th birthday, her mother wanted to surprise her with a visit to Kugane, so that she could admire the beautiful Kugane Tower. On the way to Kugane, they rested in a little forest for some wild camping. During that night, everything changed for our lalafell. In the middle of the night, a very tall figure appeared from deep within the woods, grabbed the mother lalafell. The mother screamed to her child: "Run, as far as you can, and don't look back!". The child, realizing the danger, decided to follow her mothers order and started running. Not too long after that, she heard her mother scream in pain. Once away from danger, the little lalafell knew that from now on, she was on her own, but didn't know what to do. When you are a little child lost in the middle of the nowhere, you can quickly get thirsty and hungry without having any food or drink. The young lalafell began to weaken. After a few days of wandering around, making sure to not be notice by dangerous creatures, she stumbled upon a group of adventurers coming back for an dungeon. The group of adventurers quickly notice the little lalafell in need. They approached her, gave her something to eat and drink. To make sure our lalafell would be safe, they brought her along with them to the nearest city, which was Limsa Lominsa. Once arrived there, the group of adventurers continued they way and our lalafell needed to find a way to live. She had become shy and lonely. She heard at a tavern about one of Limsa Lominsa's guilds, the Arcanist Guild, where you learn to summon a magical creature that you could befriend. She also heard, that when an arcanist becomes skilled enough, they could learn powerful healing spells. At that point, our lalafell knew what she wanted to do. She wanted to become an arcanist. She would be able to get herself a friend and earn money for her food and drinks. If she did her best at becoming a good arcanist, she knew she would be able to heal other people, and make sure that what happened to her mother, won't happen to anyone else. This is where our story starts...

 

After writing this whole paragraph, I think I might have done a bit overkill, but as a new role player I also wanted to have a character that is new to how everything works. I hope I didn't write any lore breaking stuff. I never went to or near Kugane because I only reached level 56 before I stopped playing FFXIV, so I am unsure if I could find forests on the way to Kugane. I also hope it's not too cliche, I actually have no idea what cliche scenerios would be for RP.

 

I am not sure if I will be a light, medium or heavy role player, I think that I will discover that along my journey of roleplaying. I also don't know much about FFXIV lore, just a bit about lalafells, so I think that this scenario fits well my absence of lore knowledge, since I will learn the lore along my character in the main story. What I currently aim on doing, is just live the life of my lalafell, leveling to become a skilled arcanist, then a scholar. Do little jobs (quests) to earn money to live. etc. Trying to act like my lalafell would. (This will probably exclude dungeons, except if I can find people willing to go on an RP adventure with me). 

 

As for my real self, I am a Belgian IT student who is rather lazy. I am a man, even though I want to play a female lalafell (I hope there is nothing wrong with that). There is not a lot to say about me, as I mostly stay in my room and play games or watch anime when I am not at school. The main games I play are Rocket League, Diablo 3 and Dark souls. Mostly all with friends. And now I hope to have a wonderful experience in FFXIV. 

 

Sorry if I was boring to read, I am not good at making these kinds of posts and introducing myself and such. If you have any advice, or if I did anything wrong already, feel free to tell me!

Welcome to the RPC Miku and welcome back to Eorzea! Your story seems fine, though there was one little bit that doesn't line up, but it's an easy enough fix!

Kugane is a very long boat ride across the seas to the island nation of Hingashi, so there wouldn't be any forests along the way, and not a journey one could take on foot. The easy fix, however, is that you said your character winds up in Limsa Lominsa after losing her mother. Limsa Lominsa is a nation of pirates and seafarers. Maybe your Lalafells took a boat from Ul'dah's docks towards Kugane but the boat sank - maybe in a storm, maybe sunk by pirates. Then it's just a matter of your character getting picked up. Maybe she's clinging to the flotsam of the sunken ship and a passing navy vessel sees her and brings her aboard and back to Limsa Lominsa. Maybe the pirates keep her until they get back to Limsa.

Thank you very much for your reply! It helps a lot! I didn't think of checking out a world map. Having an accident on sea sounds even better than a camping session gone wrong. I'll think some more on what could have happened on sea. Thanks a lot !
