Roleplay and Different Servers

I have been wondering. Considering the merge between visiting servers....is the concept of it known in the world? Would a 'server' be a different continent? A parallel universe that we're aware of? 
Another planet?

 

Or would visitors from a different server (Maetus -> Balmung) would be treated as though they have always been around?

Servers are an entirely OOC/Mechanical game thing and not an in-world thing. Definitely not separate continents, as... each servers world (hydaelyn), continents, and story are identical - also ruling out multiverse. As the actual story of the game already has its own Parallel(ish) Dimensions, called the Shards or Reflections of the Source (our world being the Source) that also rules out other servers being alternate dimensions, since again, the stories are all identical no matter which server you play on. Also not different planet (again, Hydaelyn on all servers) though other planets do exist in the solar system exist in canon. 

 

It's probably best to just treat Visitors like they've always been there. You're probably not going to run into another you, so there's little reason to even be ICly suspicious of otherworldly visitors.
