Hey there! I go by a whole bunch of different names on these kinds of sites, but here you can call me Cloudberi.
I'm an altogether new player in FFXIV, finally caving to buying the damned subscription and shadowbringers while it was on sale (Against my better judgement) and I'm having a good time for the month!
You can find me on crystal server group, I home in coeurl but stay in balmung most of the time due to its large RP community size. I'm not necessarily new to RP, but this is my first dive into pretty much all of it here and what better way to start than the forums? Coming from black desert online that has a rather small and persecuted RP community due to its pvp nature, and griefing RPers is common enough to warrant gatekeeping which limits the experience. I have a character in the works at this time, and I like to talk characters with people who have a genuine interest.

Trying to weave my way through wiki templates is daunting, so a character page may be held off for a bit.

Welcome! I recommend checking out carrd.co. It's a little easier to use than the wiki here and RPers use more often for their bios these days!

I was thinking about using carrd as well, but at the moment Ive been rather lazy to get it all prettied up.

I do have the basic information all written down in a text file somewhere, so thats all good to go.

Yep, half a battle of many.

My previous mmo has left me starved for nuances limited by the game and the community (tavern rp was atrociously prevalent),  so I hope I can quickly settle my character in subjects Id like to explore given the larger community size here.

As you've probably noticed, we don't deal with griefing and persecution very often at all here, and certainly not to the degree it's prevalent in BDO. In addition to what Faye mentioned, Carrd is only as complex as you want to make it- in fact, added complexity can hurt more than it helps. On the whole, it's a pretty user-friendly platform. While the forums and wiki are used still to some degree, the bulk of activity can be found now in the server Discords for Balmung and Mateus. You can also throw up a Making Connections post here on the forums or the Discords when and if you have a good idea of what kind of RP niche you'd like to fall into (ex., things not related to tavern RP).

Thanks,  I'm glad I can be comfortable RPing out in the world here. Ive grown so used to having to find very niche spots in bdo or just stay in safe zones altogether because of the griefing threat that it felt expected for roleplayers:  certainly a breath of fresh air. 

 

Where do I go about finding the discords? I do have the basics of a character ready to go, just need to put it to practice and paper.

A lot of the discord links found on this site and external sites are all expired, so Im glad to get a fresh link.

Yeah, the Discord is your best bet for any current information. Speaking of the Balmung Discord, the channels to watch foremost would be the #personal-ads, #community-ads, and #lfrp-now. Those are typically the most relevant sections to keep an eye on. Most of the wiki pages are no longer maintained in favor of Carrd, and the forums have been made obsolete by Discord, but a good few of us still hawk over the place despite that!
