Introductions are hard, but I try! (+ a few questions)

Recommended Posts

Greetings, fellow Eorzeans! Thanks for clicking on this topic! You can call me Eon. When I'm not doing comics, I read horror books, watch old anime, and, of course, roleplay.

I've been fascinated by FFXIV for a while now. At this point, I have enough IM roleplay experience under my belt to fill out an entire library, but haven't done much in MMOs. Exploring WoW got stale pretty quick, since no-one seems to like the game the way it is nowadays. Perhaps a newer MMO will offer a less gloomy community.

I was lucky enough to manage to wiggle into Balmung. (Last I checked, the server was still open. So if you've been waiting, give it a shot.) I also made a character on Mateus. Hopefully, we'll bump into each-other sooner or later.

Sometimes, you can catch me running around with my wife, who I've also dragged into Eorzea. We don't mind people barging in on our roleplay, so feel free to come along for the ride.

As for my questions: I've heard the best roleplay experiences tend to come from free companies. But how exactly does one go about joining a roleplay company as a noob? Should you max out your level first? Is it necessary to tailor your character to suit the free company?

That's about it for now. Happy adventuring!

Hey man! Welcome aboard to the RPC! o/

Best starting point is to join the Balmung and/or Mateus Discords and start responding to, or creating, ads to get yourself involved. Many Free Companies recruit via these Discords too, so you can find what you want fairly easily that way. Now, that said... Free Companies are entirely optional here. Many games exhibit the issue where nearly all RP happens under guild umbrellas, but the FFXIV community is so large that there's a lot of stuff that happens outside the silos. You will also find there's enough of a community outside of FC's to be able to effectively survive "off the grid" and still get an excellent experience independently. Personally, I've been living this way for the last six months, so it's very doable.

Welcome to the both of you! Most FC's, especially RP FC's, will not expect you to have a character that is maxed out or any specific level, and in fact a lot of FC's will be happy to help you work your way through the content, so it may help to join an FC sooner or later, but it's really up to you and your preference! It's not really necessary to tailor your character to any FC, but it is good to keep in mind that most RP FC's will have some sort of IC theme and function, and you'll probably want to play a character that will have a logical place there and the ability to connect with their company mates. It's best to find an FC that fits your character well, or if your heart is set on a certain FC, make some tweaks to make your character work there if necessary.
