YesGood Posted September 11, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 11, 2013 So these guys. It just so happens that Siobhain really dislikes Chocobos for some reason. Probably because she feels like she's a little too high up for comfort. I read that Coeurls used to be numerous in 1.0 but now they're endangered or extinct? So, questions. 1. Does anyone know any details about what happened to the Coeurls? 2. Does anyone use a Coeurl as their IC mount? 3. Does anyone actually mention their mount ICly at all? 4. Are they cool to ride? I think you have it the other way around. In 1.0, if I recall correctly, there was a single coeurl in the game. I would say they are much more numerous now than they were in 1.0. People frequently mention their mounts ICly, and some just have them for fun. Really depends on your character, and if you want to come up with the story behind the mount or not. Link to comment

I just wanted to make sure in the event I get the digital upgrade that if I were to use one (which I might because I -love- mounts) people weren't going to beat me up or come at me with pitchforks for using an endangered species for a mount. Eorzean PETA? Oh waifu! I didn't know you wanted a mount, I have this Floating Eye for you! Wait, you don't want to be high, so a voidsent, yes yes! Riding the mount of pure evil into battle! But on a serious note, I think they were numerous enough to have as a mount. To get one as a mount, I believe they're semi-intelligent more so than other beasts, so I take the bonding would take a special strong willed individual. Game limitations and such, remember 1.0 was more of an alpha experiment instead of an actual game. Link to comment

Here's to Mechano-hog equivalents in FFXIV ARR. >.> Very good. I don't want to make Siobhain too-too special but I would like her to eventually get a coeurl mount. I may periodically reference it. I did also read that they're extremely ferocious creatures but I'm sure she could take one. *SHIELD BASH ON THE NOSE* *throws a saddle on there* Hurrah! Link to comment
IncubusManatee Posted September 11, 2013 Share #6 Posted September 11, 2013 Eorzean PETA? They will demand you be put in jail and pay 10,000 Gil per month to them for "Mentally Damaging" the helpless and sweet creature. Don't forget you will get dirty looks once released. Link to comment

Then they'll kill the Coeurl because it's been domesticated and is no longer fit to survive in the wild. 'Cus that's how they roll. Link to comment

Well, other things aside. A'hur. Honey, tsk tsk, the saddle goes on it's back, not it's face. While that'd be one crazy ride, it isn't the most effective. As for it is, there might be new mounts added of such. We have magitek mounts, I don't see why a bike can't be added. If they do, it'll probably be a diesel punk style one from FFVII. Especially more so seeing as they're adding the Golden Saucer which -does- have the snowboarding mini-game. 1 Link to comment

Lost River Posted September 11, 2013 Share #10 Posted September 11, 2013 We'll more than likely, if we get one, will get one as I said during the Golden Saucer time. I wonder if it'll include awkward dates too as a mini-game. Cloud x Barret, I'm jus' sayin'. Link to comment
Fates Skein Posted September 11, 2013 Share #11 Posted September 11, 2013 There are a lot of Coeurl pups in game in the...um East Shroud I think? I'm planning on having my miqo'te having raised her coeurl from a little orphaned pup and using it as an in-game mount. Link to comment

Oroban Posted September 11, 2013 Share #14 Posted September 11, 2013 It's definitely feasible. If anything, it's much more likely than anyone attempting to say that they have some purloined Magitek armor from the Garlean Empire to ride around.. Link to comment
Swift Nightclaw Posted September 11, 2013 Share #15 Posted September 11, 2013 *SHIELD BASH ON THE NOSE* *throws a saddle on there* Hurrah! *Coeurl stands a moment, getting accustomed to feel of saddle and rider.....* *Coeurl rolls over on back and squirms around happily* The imagery just popped in my head and I found it too amusing not to share. I'm hoping they don't go too steam punk-ish for Eorzea. Every fantasy MMO lately seems to want to put a ton of steampunk or technology or what have you in there. I've grown a bit tired of Final Fantasy abandoning magic and swords for magic swords and FULLY AUTOMATIC MACHINE GUNS!!!! Cloud gets a pass since the entire party could stand behind the shield wall Buster Sword. I did get a laugh in Ul'dah when a lalafell duo conversation was: Lalafell 1: I have an idea for a new device. It's a cart on two wheels that you pedal. Lalafell 2: Why wouldn't you just ride a chocobo? WoW has made me favor having a smaller collection of mounts with the main one (Chocobo for ARR) being much more easy to get so it remains the most commonly seen mount of choice rather than 250 different beasts of varying size and type carrying people around everywhere. I have the coeurl mount from the 1.0 CE perks I got, but I don't really care for the animation of them from seeing others ride them. I'm waiting for my :chocobo: myself! Though I want to stay on foot mostly. It's just a bad idea to take your trusty mount out into the dangerous depths of the wilderness, tie him to a tree, and go wander into a cave and expect nothing to accept your offer of a free dinner. It's definitely feasible. If anything, it's much more likely than anyone attempting to say that they have some purloined Magitek armor from the Garlean Empire to ride around.. It was just sitting there with the keys in the ignition! What would you have me do? Also, I did not know this... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coeurl Link to comment
YesGood Posted September 11, 2013 Author Share #16 Posted September 11, 2013 I have to agree on the steampunk thing, as much as I love the idea of a two-seated hog again. I watched the cut scene with the Garlean Empire and freaked out a little. "The Empire?! No one warned me the Sith were in this game!!" Imperial theme. Link to comment
C'io Behkt Posted September 12, 2013 Share #17 Posted September 12, 2013 My Coeurl is IC in the most unintended way. On a trip with Blue Skies in beta, the planned story took us into a village wherein the beastmen had caused problems for the local populace by infesting the area with Coeurl pups. Since the villagers were weak floozies, their suggested solution was for the adventurers to slaughter all the coeurl. C'io objected, of course, but the team went on ahead and killed the coeurl. Fearless Wynn even came back and began skinning them, D:<. Afterwards, C'io went to the killing field and found a coeurl the group had missed... she then smuggled it away and began taking care of it herself. It was all fairly traumatic, but that's how she got a coeurl mount... Link to comment

I'm sure Mysterium will make it their focus before long to find out how to power purloined Magitek armor with pure Aetherial energies rather than relying on ceruleum, in order to gleefully stomp around in them and likely get stabbed as a result by some good-intentioned would-be hero.
