Skylar Steelheart Posted September 20, 2013 Share #26 Posted September 20, 2013 Stand by your reasoning and do what you want. e_e; Tirra Lirra! I imagine most people assume I'm either not an RPer, or that I'm a lalafell. My character's actual name is A'tirramei Liroh, but honestly, who wants to type out those convoluted Seeker names? Not meeeeee. Cute little nickname, go! Link to comment
Dravus Posted September 20, 2013 Share #27 Posted September 20, 2013 It's usually better to strive to adhere to racial naming conventions when they're put into place for the sake of embracing what is usually one of the more distinct and notable differences between the various playable races. Exceptions do exist, but there needs to be a pretty decent reason for it and even then it can often risk becoming the norm rather than the exception in some cases. Either way, it shouldn't be terribly difficult to find a name that matches the racial naming conventions and appeals to the role-player in question. That's pretty much what I sought to do with my characters and it's the best compromise for everyone. Link to comment
S'maia Rahz Posted September 20, 2013 Share #28 Posted September 20, 2013 Janna uses a traditional Seeker name, despite her estrangement from her tribe. I always do my best to keep close to or within lore with character names, unless I have good reason not to. But for me, at least, I always feel 'closer' to the feel of whatever game I'm playing if my character's name 'makes sense.' That said, if they ever offer a way to change your name, it's very likely that her name will change, pending the direction of currently roleplaying going on. She could end up K'janna (which is of course still a traditional name, and would simply represent a change of tribe), she could drop her tribal prefix altogether, or she might even wind up dropping the tribal prefix and catching a Hyur surname. All of these things would be a result of ongoing RP, though. That said, I don't begrudge anyone their choice of names, even if it's atypical. As another poster already said, we're all here to have fun, and I think most of us can agree that it's more fun to spend time interacting with our fellow RPers than it is to try and lore police them, no? Jomoru Posted September 20, 2013 Share #29 Posted September 20, 2013 I would personally like to see a Miqo'te child who has been abducted from their family and sold to Hyur parents. *nods sagely* I mean, adoption is swell, I whole-heartedly support it, but after participating in another thread about Miqo'tes being abducted and turned into exotic dancers and slaves-- I start to wonder if there isn't some demand for Miqo babies. I imagine they're adorable. I am pretty sure there's an NPC in the arcanist arc who basically has this backstory Link to comment
