Kieairakitty Posted September 22, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 22, 2013 http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/s534/Melisa_Sider/ffxiv2013-09-2217-20-40-99_zps1a0dd84e.png[/img] She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, before stepping out from behind the large pole, her eyes meeting those of another Miqo'te, a male ... he smiled at her, and she turned around and walked right back out of the Quicksand and into the streets of Uld'ah, her face as red as a tomato. Dammit... Why can't I ever just say Hi... They're not going to hurt you ... but what if they do? What if it's all just a trap! He could have knocked me out and dragged me back to his tribe and I would be doomed.... Doomed! She gasped aloud, and looked around quickly, no one had heard her, no one even paid her any attention. She adjusted the thin framed glasses that rest atop her nose and moved to lean against a wall. She hated being so timid, so shy. How she longed for friends... but could not get passed that first step before her mind began to run wild. She took another deep breath, and reached up to tighten the ribbons that held her twin ivory ponytails inplace, and stepped back into the Quicksand. She lifted her chin and peered around, the Miqo'te was gone, she had lost her chance with him... but there was plenty of potential friends around. She sat down at a nearby table, folded her hands in her lap and looked around nervously, now if only she could get up the nerve to say "Hello". Link to comment
elisan Posted September 23, 2013 Share #2 Posted September 23, 2013 The pale elezen woman often found herself sitting in strange places - simply watching people come and go. Ul'dah was an interesting city with a certain charm that she found she enjoyed. And the food - the rich spices, sweet treats, she enjoyed those too though anyone glancing at her wouldn't know it. Tall and slender, alabaster skin and hair worn just off the shoulders in a white bob. Her eyes were really the only thing that one might note had any color to speak of, a startling crimson shade that was the benchmark of most albino creatures. Tonight was no different, she sat at the Quicksand enjoying some honey rich drink and watching people come and go. On occasion, she would bring out the cards and read for people. She had watched the skittish Miqo'te try to work up the nerve to say hello to someone..anyone..watched as she bolted out the door only to return a few minutes later, slightly more determined. That determination seemed to wane and the pale witch felt a brief pang of familiarity for the girl. It wasn't easy for her either, most fell somewhere between intimidated or cautious toward her. A passing server was waved down, a soft word spoken before in short order, the serving girl brought a plate of pastries to the nerve wracked miqo'te, compliments of "that one there". Link to comment
Kieairakitty Posted September 23, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted September 23, 2013 The young Miqo'te girl seemed almost surprised as a plate of various pastries was placed in front of her, she jumped slightly when the server approached and spoke in a soft voice, that seemed tired, perhaps from having been on her feet all day. "Compliments of that one there." She said with a gesture towards the Elezen woman and continued on with her work. A soft flush brought colour to the girls cheeks as she glanced towards the woman and offered a small, yet awkward smile. Who... Why would she... She found herself trying to come up with a logical explanation as to why she had been presented with such a treat, but the sweet smell of the pastries was making her mouth water, she had always had a sweet tooth. She spied a small roll of dough that had been rolled up, filled with a fruit filling, and drizzled with chocolate, oh how it called out to her... Moments later half of the pastries were missing, and the only clues as to their disappearance was the crumbs that littered the plate, the front of the Miqo'te's robe and her mouth. She reached for a napkin to clean herself off, a little embarrassed at how fast she had devoured the few pastries, and she looked around to see if anyone had been watching, her gaze landing once more on the Elezen woman whom had sent her the delightful treat. She offered another smile, this time a lot more genuine. Don't be silly, she was kind enough to give you these ... go say Hi, offer her some ... You want to know why, so go find out. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath and pushed her chair back from the table. She picked up the plate with the remaining pastries and took the few steps from her table towards the woman. "Thank you." she said in a soft voice, her eyes looking down at the plate. "Would you like some?" She held the plate out. Link to comment
ryanxwonbin Posted September 23, 2013 Share #4 Posted September 23, 2013 Ul'Dah was a wretched and unlikeable place for the traveler. Born in the Noscea region, close to Limsa Lominsa, he was far more used to the cooler and more temperate weather. Gridania had proven itself to be a place of fair weather as well, even with the overabundance of nature that seemed to tread on him everywhere he walked. Yet, the storms of Limsa Lominsa and smell of Gridania could not match Ul'Dah's atrocious heatwave and the pangs of brown sand that stretched for miles. What was worse was the kind of people he ran in to; first a snotty noblewoman that seemed to jeer at him for being part of the common plebs, then when he walked on the outer parts of the city, he was besieged by beggars who wanted to sell him odd trinkets and the like. So it was with a somewhat curt mood that Ryan Aphelion sat in a table at the Quicksand along with two other adventurers there. The seated three had been planning a job of guarding a caravan of sorts, and all seemed to go well until the young man revealed that he was a newcomer to the city. Not wishing to take with them a green adventurer who did not know the ways around the region, they snorted and wave him off before leaving. And they paid no attention to Miqo'te that had seated herself on the table a few seconds past. The young man in brown cloak, his head hidden by his hood, eyed the adventurers as they left then gazed back at the Miqo'te who sat. His dark brown eyes, rounded nose, parts of his dark black hair, and stubbled mouth could at least be seen. "Hello," he replied in a casual manner before taking a sip of his blackberry ale. "May I suppose that you are looking for work as well? I am rather running short on gil, and need to fill in a job soon..." At the moment, pastries were brought by a serving girl who pointed out the person that had served the Miqo'te. Ryan took a glance at the stranger, looked back at the Miqo'te, and made a shrug. It seemed there were some good people here after all... (OOC: Eep... Looks like terrible timing on my part. Carry on without my character if it becomes too much of a hassle!) Link to comment
elisan Posted September 23, 2013 Share #5 Posted September 23, 2013 An amused, soft chuckle escaped her as the young miqo'te lady all but devoured the pastries. At least she was enjoying them! A kind smile met the awkward glance and eventually, the plate was held out offering what few treats remained unscathed. Thank you...would you like some? She inclined her head and nodded. "You're welcome. I'm glad that you liked them". Delicate fingers carefully lifted a pastry off the offered plate while the other hand gestured. "If you'd like to sit, you can". The witch's ruby gaze was drawn to the hooded man who'd started to speak close by, offering conversation about work. She assumed he had been speaking to the skittish lady but answered herself, partly to spare the girl a little social frustration. "There is a never-ending demand for work with the citizens of this place if you're in great need of employees. I am sure there are many families here who would appreciate even a small pay...unless you are seeking someone with a more particular set of skill?" Link to comment
Kieairakitty Posted September 23, 2013 Author Share #6 Posted September 23, 2013 The Miqo'te girl smiled again at the woman, though it was brief as a male voice came from behind, startling her as she literally jumped in the air, causing the plate of pastries to slip from her hand and land on the floor with a loud clatter. "Oh no! I'm so sorry!" She said quickly, looking over the Elezen woman, hoping none had gotten on her. The server who had given the pastries to her quickly came over with a broom, and shooed the young Miqo'te girl out of the way, blushing and hiding her face in her hands from embarrassment. As the mess was being cleaned up, she pressed her back against the pole she had backed into after being shooed and prayed that she would just dissolve right in and that no one would notice her. Though her curiosity was gnawing at her, she opened her eyes and peeked out past splayed fingers to peer at the male whom had spoken and caused her such a fright. Please don't be a Miqo'te .... Please don't be a Miqo'te... She chanted in her head as she looked in his direction, also hoping he would not be looking at her, but perhaps helping the Elezen woman or the server. ((OOC - Hope it's alright that I assumed your character came up after she had already gotten up)) Link to comment
ryanxwonbin Posted September 23, 2013 Share #7 Posted September 23, 2013 (OOC: We'll go with my char sitting nearby as elisan rolled with. Long as I get some RP, whatev!) "Aye," the young Hyur replied to the seemingly elegant and well-spoken Elezen. "I would much rather do a job that may test my skill than delivering letters or moving crates. I have tested my lance in the fields of Noscea and the forests of the Shrouds, and wish to see how they fare in these sands. But only a fool heads straight for the first sign of danger alone. I would much enjoy a few companions whom I can work together with, so that I may learn without getting devoured by the Vultures that roam these lands." He had already studied some of the creatures that roamed the sands around these parts, but reading and theorizing could only get one so far. As the Miqo'te suddenly sprang up in fright and retreated to another part of the room, the awkwardness of the situation was not missed on the young man. He rubbed his chin with a slight frown, half-wondering why such an easily frightened person was at an adventurer's guild and half-wondering how he should apologize without scaring the girl again. Perhaps removing that cloak of his would help? He did just so as he stood from his seat, but did not move towards the Miqo'te. "I... Uhhh... I apologize. I meant no harm." If she would peak through the covers of her hands, the young Hyur was someone who looked nothing terrifying. With the exception of a scar on his right cheek, Ryan was a young man with soft-looking eyes and an even softer looking face. He looked too green amongst the other grizzled adventurers. Kieairakitty Posted September 23, 2013 Author Share #8 Posted September 23, 2013 She slowly lowered her hands and breathed a sigh of relief, once more she adjusted the thin framed glasses, pushing them up her nose as she offered both the Elezen woman, and the Hyur male a small apologetic smile. She had always been somewhat timid, but since leaving her home she had become even more skiddish. "No .. No .." She waved her hands back and forth. "It's my fault..." She bowed her head towards them both, as she contemplated making a hasty exit, so as to not embarrass herself any further... However she decided against it. "Please, let me make it up to you both... hrm ... drinks? I promise not to spill them." She rubbed her hands together nervously. Link to comment
elisan Posted September 23, 2013 Share #9 Posted September 23, 2013 Elisan watched the exchange with a small smile and nodded, "A drink would be fine, thank you". She turned her attention for a moment to the young hyur man and tipped her head a bit, studying him. "There is strength in numbers, I am told. Going gallivanting about the countryside with no idea what's roaming just over that dune is foolish indeed. You're right to seek others who might be able to not only help but to keep company as well. Myself..I am passing the time here while I wait for someone". She smiled pleasantly, looking back to the miqo'te woman then. Link to comment
ryanxwonbin Posted September 23, 2013 Share #10 Posted September 23, 2013 Ryan rubbed his neck, thinking what a strange fellow this Miqo'te was. The least he could do was take the offer of a drink after causing the small ruckus in the tavern; though on the back of his mind strangers making drinks for him raised all sorts of danger alarms. For whatever reason however, he did not feel the need for any caution against the Miqo'te. She seemed.... Genuinely a frightened person who wanted to appease others. "Yes... Thank you, that would be lovely," he replied in a somewhat awkward tone, not having the quick wits and experience to reply as did the Elzen. He sat back down. "Quite unfortunate, it seems I must wait longer for a job," he said glancing back at the Elzen. "Well... Since we three have seemed to acquainted ourselves in this strange manner, do you mind if I ask for your names? To start with, I am Ryan Aphelion, from the outskirts of Limsa Lominsa. It is my first time here in Ul'Dah." Link to comment
Kieairakitty Posted September 24, 2013 Author Share #11 Posted September 24, 2013 "Oh ... Umm ... K-Kieaira." She said with a smile, not offering any other information as she tried to flag down the server once more, so they could order drinks. She reached to a pouch that hung from her belt, and pulled forth a few gil as she moved to sit down at the table, nearly missing the chair, she stumbled just a bit, but managed to sit down , wrapping her tail around her as she did so. She glanced between the Elezen woman and the Hyur male whom had introduced himself, and smiled, relaxing a bit into the chair, she was starting to feel a little less timid, but her guard was still up, as if waiting for some sort of unseen entity to jump out and grab her. Finally the server came by to accept the gil and take each of their orders. "Cream please..." She said softly. Link to comment
elisan Posted September 24, 2013 Share #12 Posted September 24, 2013 "I am called Elisan..pleased to meet you both. I haven't been to the sea-city yet myself - Im told its a real sight though" She smiled to the server and had the woman refill whatever she'd been drinking before and a few more gil were given over for another plate of food - some bread, cheese and fruit. It was always nice to converse while sharing food, it helped to ease people. She adjusted her cloak on the back of the chair and set a small pouch on the table, which contained something that gave it a vague square shape. Link to comment
ryanxwonbin Posted September 24, 2013 Share #13 Posted September 24, 2013 "Kieaira... Elisan... Then a pleasure to meet you both," the Hyur replied, taking a sip of his ale, careful not to take too much of the liquor that burned his chest. He found the way the three had not settled themselves a tad out of place, but it was more welcome than conducting simple business that all these other hardy-adventures. It had been quite some time since he had conversed on these friendly terms. "Limsa Lominsa is indeed a grand place. Great food, exotic items, the smell of the fresh sea. At night the skies are illuminated with countless stars. Mayhaps not for the pirates and the few rival trading companies feuding now and then, it would be perfect." He paused, seemingly haven gone on to a tangent. Perhaps a symptom of missing his home after these years of travel. "Are you two originally from the city?" he asked, not wishing to be the selfish one who blabbed on about himself and his home city. Link to comment
Kieairakitty Posted September 24, 2013 Author Share #14 Posted September 24, 2013 Kieaira found herself drifting off into daydreams as the man spoke of Limsa, and she made a mental note to visit their sometime. She came back into the conversation with a shake of her head, the twin ponytails swaying slightly. "Oh ... No ... Not Ul'dah." She said, playing with her hands in her lap as she sat. "I came here from Gridania." She smiled, speaking with a slight hint of longing for her cozy little home in the forest. "I left home to learn." She said softly, followed by a soft chuckle, a flush to her cheeks and a slender finger moved to push her glasses up her nose once more, as she looked to the other two. Link to comment
elisan Posted September 24, 2013 Share #15 Posted September 24, 2013 "No, I'm not from Ul'dah either - my birth home is far from here between the mountains of Coerthas and Dravania. I chose to come here because it was so far from there..." The albino smiled wryly. Clearly there was some story behind that. "I found a comfortable place for myself among the books and scholars of the arcane arts here and I like the food" She chuckled softly, a light shrug of her shoulders. Link to comment
ryanxwonbin Posted September 25, 2013 Share #16 Posted September 25, 2013 "It seems we all have some stories we could share," Ryan replied with a smile and a nod. He could sense, particularly from Elisan, that the two were in particular leaving their origins and information vague. No offense taken by the Hyur; he knew very well it to be selfish to expect strangers to open themselves and knew when not to pry too deeply in their backgrounds. Instead, he decided to speak of adventure as they were of such kind and currently occupying an adventurer's guild no less. "Have you two seen any adventures or jobs that would make a good tale? Pray, tell me if so. I am interested." Link to comment
Fen Posted September 25, 2013 Share #17 Posted September 25, 2013 Into the Tavern come two people, an odd pairing to say the least. One, a tall, brown-haired, male Keeper with mismatched eyes and a skittish look about him, carbuncle perched across his shoulders. The other, a male, dark-cyan-haired Dunesfolk with a sharp, observant expression on his otherwise adorable face. The two make their way to the counter to order their drinks, both asking for tea. Party folks, these two. And so, drinks in their hands, they venture to the tavern proper, searching for a good place to settle down in. A large Highlander walks a bit too close for comfort to the Keeper and the young man backs up, bumping his rear against the edge of the nearby table full of people ((y'all)). The poor Miqo'te jumps a foot into the air in surprise, face suddenly as red as an apple. The carbuncle previously atop his shoulders leaps to the floor and watches with big, blank eyes the coming spectacle. His Lalafell friend seems absent, separated, somehow, so the Keeper turns around, face red, and begins his attempt at words, "E-er... S-sorry... There was a... and... um... h-he... so I... um... and then... ah... erm... Sorry..." Link to comment
Kieairakitty Posted September 25, 2013 Author Share #18 Posted September 25, 2013 Kieaira fiddled with her fingers as she tried to think of how to respond to Ryan without sounding dull, shifting in her seat as she peered around the Tavern, her eyes landing on the male Miqo'te and she froze. Her heart began pounding in her chest, and to any that were paying attention a look of anxiety would cross her eyes. As he backed away from the Highlander and right into their table, she let out a startled cry and jumped from her chair, once more backing into the pole nearby. She swallowed hard as she stared at the Keeper, and though a small sigh of relief would escape her lips, she still felt on edge. He's a Keeper, don't worry. She told herself, though her stance would remain defensive. Her lips pursed together tightly, and her slight fear could be easily misinterpreted as anger towards the other Keeper. Link to comment
IncubusManatee Posted September 25, 2013 Share #19 Posted September 25, 2013 Warm air was slowly pulled into ragged lungs as Baer woke up upon the Inn-bed he had rented for the night. A single hand moving to feel his face. Last night was rough... He thought as his digits felt over the multiple bruises along his face. Especially the one which had altered his eye socket color. Several small cuts had also opened up on his face again. Making the usual youthful looking man appear more of his age. Showing the deep wrinkles around his eyes and mouth. Rivulets of dried caked-on blood filling the crevices it could from where the injuries had opened. Atleast my eye didin't shut from the swelling! Thinking rather cheerily as he felt the 'Shiner' he had. Leaning up from the bed he walked over to pick up some of his clothes which he had within a small travelling sack. Throwing on a simple light-pink open shirt with wide cuff's, and slipping on his leather boots with dark grey trouser's. Just so he looked a little less...exposed when he left the room. It took him awhile until he realized that he was still wearing his handwraps from the night before, stained with blood and dirtied from a pristine white to mottled brown. Deciding to leave them on for the moment as he exited the Inn room and began a small trek into the main reception area and bar. With his long gait-it did not take long for him to enter the Hourglass Inn and delve into the depths of the Quicksand. Moving past some of the patrons whom had congregated within to find a seat at a table not far away. Not intentionally getting too close-but obviously enough to surprise one of the group. A Keeper to be exact. With a Compatriot Lalafell. At the catkin's response, the large man stopped in his tracks and put up his hands. "Sorry about that! Did I bump into you or something?" Deep voice carrying quite well. A bright smile on his face-in utter contrast to the grisly visage which is his face at the moment. Even his hair had a bit of blood-and sand in it. The braided crimson strands coated on all sides with granules, though only one had dried blood on it. Though it wasn't just the male whom had reacted rather...jumpily, it was a female at a nearby table with a friend it seemed. Both seeming rather offput and skittish from the large man's presence in a rather cascading manner. One thing lead to another in this case. ((Hope you don't mind I parrot off the Hyur Highlander in your last post's, if so, I can rewrite this all)) Link to comment
elisan Posted September 25, 2013 Share #20 Posted September 25, 2013 Elisan had been listening to Kieaira start to speak when the table was flooded with sudden commotion. The miqo'te male was bumped into, he in turn bumped the table which sent the poor girl flying in a full out retreat. Observation, even casually, would note her unease with most. It seemed particularly worse around males and tripley so males of her own race. Somewhere in the back of her mind she wondered at what terrible things the girl must have endured to be so terrified of social interactions with her own people. The highlander turned to address them and apologize and the pale elezen woman rose with a warm smile, sliding to put herself casually between the displaced Kieaira and the men around them. The witch was tall, even for one of her people. "Truly, it was an accident. No harm's been done". Crimson eyes fell on the carbuncle briefly before moving to the dunesfolk and his companion. "is everyone alright then?" 1 Link to comment
Fen Posted September 25, 2013 Share #21 Posted September 25, 2013 ((Oh, not at all! Nice job wiggling in! )) The Keeper seemed nearly in a tizzy, looking back and forth between the apparently angry woman and the tall, imposing man. Face bright red, he adopted an intensely apologetic, borderline fearful expression, "I-I... er... n-no, s-sir, you... It was... m-my fault... ah... M-ma'am!" he exclaimed with unintentional gusto, "I, ah... I didn't... I mean... I... you... we... um... Nrgh... words..." The frantic man finally gave up on babbling with a sigh, grimacing to himself and nodding thankfully to the Elezen woman. Nearby, the carbuncle made an impressive leap onto his shoulders once more. "...Aartur, what are you doing?" came a voice several heads below most. The Dunesfolk looked sternly to the male Keeper before looking up to the others, "...Apologies, he tends to be rather timid, even by Keeper standards. He means no harm, I assure you, nor any insult." The Lalafell's voice was about the average, high tone of most of his race, though notably serious to match his expression. Link to comment
IncubusManatee Posted September 25, 2013 Share #22 Posted September 25, 2013 Baer gave a small nod to Elis, as she spoke up. "That's good to know. Thought I caused a ruckus again. I must agree with your words-Miss, is everyone alright?" Opening up his arms gently to encompass them all. As the Keeper spoke, a single brow raised along the battered Hyurs head. "Word's work good in situations like these." He said towards the end of the young man's confused tirade. Obviously being playful with the Catkin. Blue eyes moved downwards towards the Lalafell whom had spoken up now as well. Listening closely to the little fella's words carefully. Then chuckled. "Didin't bother me none. More worried about the girl-" Pointing to the spooked Catkin whom had begun a swift retreat earlier. "-there." Link to comment
Kieairakitty Posted September 25, 2013 Author Share #23 Posted September 25, 2013 Kieaira's ears sunk down as she realized she was being talked about, and she shifted away from the pole, retreating into a seat at the back of the table, a bit further from all the commotion. "I'm fine..." She said softly in a tone that even a mouse would have trouble hearing. She closed her eyes and clasped her hands together in front of her, much like one would when they were praying. Go away, Go away, Go away. She chanted over and over in her head, before finally talking herself into taking a deep breath to calm her nerves ... though it didn't work very well. She opened her eyes and looked towards the table. Drink ... Drink ... Throughout the commotion no one had seemed to notice the server girl whom had delivered drinks and a bit of food to the table. Kieaira reached out with a trembling hand to grasp around the small cup of cream ... a comfort food so to speak. She held the cup near her mouth, and sipped from it quietly, quietly thinking how she should have asked for it to be warmed, but none the less the rich taste and thick texture caused a small smile to form upon her lips. She lowered the cup, but kept it in her hands as she looked to that group, gazing over each one before her eyes once more landed upon the other Keeper, watching him suspiciously. Link to comment
IncubusManatee Posted September 25, 2013 Share #24 Posted September 25, 2013 Baer just stood like a giant red-topped monolith as he looked at the others. Focusing in on the Skittish-Kitty (Skitty!?) whom had answered, though he had no clue; since her words were so low that he couldn't even tell. Though his attention was brought to the sneaky-waitress whom had dropped off food and drink at the table. Raising a wrapped hand up to try and get her attention. "Waitress!" He called after her, making her stop quickly and look back at the large man. "Can you bring me something strong to drink-and something hearty to eat. Doesn't matter what it is." Still brightly smiling the whole while. The order acknowledged by a curt nod from the waitress led the Red-haired man to bring forth his attention back onto the group of people. Mainly the Skittish woman, in the back now. Probably hiding. "You alright Miss?" Repeating the question, tone warm and happy as he spoke. Not noticing anything amiss about her focus on the Keeper known as Aartur. Either not deigning to notice or he just was oblivious. Link to comment
Kieairakitty Posted September 25, 2013 Author Share #25 Posted September 25, 2013 Kieaira let out a soft "meep" as her gaze was averted from the Keeper and up to the man whom seemed intent on assuring she was alright. She met his gaze for but a brief moment before looking back down to her hands and giving a small nod. "Yes... I'm fine." She said loud enough for him to hear. She took another sip from her cup, closing her eyes as the liquid ran down her throat. Each sip calming her nerves a little bit more. Link to comment
