Eva Posted September 1, 2010 Share #126 Posted September 1, 2010 This tangent leads me to the question... What does it really matter who is behind the keys? If it's a female character, and we are roleplaying, my character is going to treat them as female (including potentially flirting with them). That's why it's roleplaying. Amen! This is probably why your RP will be made of awesome. :approve: The whole point is NOT to be yourself (unless you want to see how your own persona would mesh with a bunch of pretenders). That's why I tend to shy away from "RL picture" threads, Facebook, and such. The illusion, at least for me, is the whole point. Link to comment

Trizzip Posted September 1, 2010 Share #128 Posted September 1, 2010 I think even on this forum (maybe even in this thread?), someone said "I'm gonna assume that all Miqo'te are males until proven otherwise". That would be moi. I DO know that there are females on the internet. However, it's safer to be cautious, because there ARE guys who will pretend to be females (IRL). I have seen many guys burned by this. So when I say, 'I will consider you a guy', I mean 'I will never EVER flirt in any way what so ever with anyone on the internet until it is confirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt that the person is 'in fact' a female'. This tangent leads me to the question... What does it really matter who is behind the keys? If it's a female character, and we are roleplaying, my character is going to treat them as female (including potentially flirting with them). That's why it's roleplaying. In my experience, if your actions are driven according to the person behind the keyboard rather than the character... it's generally going to lead to drama and cause nothing but problems. I've been bitten by this a few times in the past, so I've simply come to the conclusion that it just doesn't matter who is behind the keys. Grandma or Grandpa, Fat Albert or Pauley Perrette; IC is IC, and OOC is OOC. The answer to your question is, 'no it does not matter who is behind the keys' (as long as you're not trying to get all flirty). When it comes to friendships, I don't care if you are a guy or a girl. When it comes to RP, I don't care either. In fact......I am comfortable sharing this little tidbit with you folks (since we're in the circle of trust right?). My character in FFXI (RP wise) had a relationship with a mithra who was played by a guy. Our characters ended up getting married and even having a baby. No, we never RP'd anything sexually detailed (even if you are a female, I leave that stuff out because there is no need for it. It's much more appropriate to just 'fade to black') When we spoke online in OOC, we were just two friends who were guys and we wouldn't even really talk about our characters at all. When IC, it was all different. In fact, I wouldn't mind RP'ing a female (if I didn't have such an attachment to my 'Brin' character) Link to comment

Noelle Posted September 1, 2010 Share #131 Posted September 1, 2010 I'm glad to be reading that a lot of you are really quite mature and grown up about a lot of things. Makes me glad I joined this place. Brin, sounds like you had a really good thing going on with that friend of yours! It'd be nice if all gamers could be more like you! Y'know, playing games for fun. Which sort of theater do you prefer? I understand a love for them all, but everybody loves certain kinds of theater more then others. Link to comment
Trizzip Posted September 1, 2010 Share #136 Posted September 1, 2010 Genre wise, I love Drama but Comedy is fun too. I love going to dinner theater, I've mainly been to broadway performances though. I'd love to check out regional theater and fringe theater. Lately I haven't had the money to get out there and see anything (there is a lot of good stuff to be seen in San Diego). But once my money is comfortable again, I'll get back out there. Link to comment

I love a good comedy, but if there is a broadway show on here I'll usually go see it(As There is nothing in Oklahoma) as Broadway is just awesome. I would actually love to check out a fringe theater, something I've never done. Link to comment

Doesn't really help prove my point, but oh well. A little extra insight for those who never played XI I guess. *shrug* Link to comment

Jaytyr Posted September 1, 2010 Share #143 Posted September 1, 2010 Well I actually will be playing 2 characters for sure... with the possibility on an extra (depending on moneys as I am a student) I picked Miqo'te and Hyur. Really for me Miqo'te was sort of a natural choice.. I am a cat person. We have 2 cats, and I have always loved felines. (I reallllllly want a Serval, but waiting til we are in a house instead of an apt) I also had a mithra in XI, so it just seems right. For Hyur I had a character concept in mind, and it fit the character really well. I liked what lore I found on the Hyur and wanted to build a character that would be fun to play. The third character I want to play will actually be a male Lalafell dunesfolk. I always think its fun to RP guys can its different. I have a fun silly concept in mind for my lil taru... I mean Lalafell ... >.> I also just really don't like Elezaan.. Elvaan.. or any of those >.> Their body proportions bother me. Link to comment
